would miles be as hated on Sup Forums if he wasn't black?

I get that he's own comic is boring but you guys seem to hate him for more then just that.

There would be faggots that hate Miles for being black, but most of the real problems lie at Bendis's feet. IT falls into the same sort of hole that parodies of Obama do: They're afraid of giving any characterization and seeming racist, so he's just...Some generic kid. That's it. Nothing cool about him. Nothing bad about him. He's just a kid that's also Spider-Man.

Its also the fact that he's written by Bendis who is actively trying to replace him with Peter.

Just as others have said, it's really Bendis's fault.

And being black isn't helping.

Him being black hinders his development as a character.
That's the only problem of him being black.

probably not to the same degree but he'd still be a shit character

Do you remember Alpha from Slott's run? People fucking hated him.

would miles be as hated on Sup Forums if he wasn't black Spiderman and just another NEW AND DIFFERENT hero?

yes, he still be a Gary stu

This is like the third time I have seen this thread, and I am pretty sure Benis is making them

eeh are you guys sure?
the few good things i have to say about bendis is that he doesn't seem to worry about how to write his black characters, iron maidens dad got shot during a drive by shooting, and both miles dad and uncle were criminals

One of the many reasons I hate Miles is because he's black.

But when I say that, I don't mean because I hate black people.

I hate Miles because he's a shallow diversity legacy character who exists purely to score the company diversity points, he's basically a shitty black retread of Peter. I hate how transparent it is and I hate how he's riding Peter's coat tails. If they did the exact same thing with a white character? Yeah, I'd still be upset, but it wouldn't carry the undercurrent of "look how progressive we are! Did we fill our quota by the way?"

Robbie Reyes on the flip side is ALSO a non white Legacy character of an existing white character, yet he's infinitely more tolerable. Maybe it's because despite sharing the name the two characters are barely affiliated in universe and have distinctly different goals and stories. Johnny isn't taking care of a retarded baby brother alone.

Amazing how Slott touted him as being Spider-Man's answer to Damian Wayne, only for Alpha to completely tank upon arrival.

Has anything even happened to Alpha since he was introduced and forgotten?

spoilers for the latest spider-man comic I guess?

>would miles be as hated on Sup Forums if he wasn't black?
This question doesn't work op. Mainly for the fact that Miles was created primarily to BE a black character first, Spider-Man second.

Last I remember was that Alpha miniseries.

Nah, remember when everyone hated the Scarlet Spider? They even tried again with Kaine, you probaly could argue the same with Venom since there always someone trying to make a spiderman of him.

20 years later people maybe got over then, though not enough saleswise.

People dont want more spiderman, hell i would argue we dont even have that now, on one side we have dan slott rich parker living in japan, on the other we have miles school friends and tie-ins to whatever bullshit bendis is doing.

DC once had a whole event to get rid of the clone characters no one cared about but some (not yet on the internet) losers.

That fucking stip. Four fucking times.

>he's infinitely more tolerable.
you say tolerable, but do you like him?

and you basically don't like him because you think there's a agenda behind him right? or am i taking this wrong

>They even tried again with Kaine
No they didn't.

He's really not.

Miles gets the Bendis haters and the racists and the Spider-Man fanboys who see Miles as a threat (which is dumb af).

But Bendis is still Bendis, and his writing habits aren't doing Miles any favors. There have been a lot of guest appearances so Miles is well connected and has developed a solid supporting cast, but everything is decompressed as shit. After like, 50 issues of comics, Miles doesn't have any real villains, and the big defining emotional moment in the Ultimate U was wiped out after Secret Wars.

He needs a villain or two.
He needs to spend less time ruminating over nonsense.
He needs a stronger relationship with Peter Parker.
He needs to spend more time palling around with Ms. Marvel.
They need to hurry up with the SHIELD plotline with his dad.

Sup Forums is pretty accepting of "minority" characters though. Most everybody here loves the Green Lanterns and Ms Marvel books for example. Maybe Miles problem is that he's fucking boring!

Maybe that's because they never actually point out that Robbie is latino. Instead they gave him a personality and a story and villians and threats to overcome. You know. Everything Miles "One tap win" lacks.

he didn't kill him user that was a look of a alternative timeline and he went there to prove that it wouldn't happen. he succeed but someone else die because of other characters

>af
Stopped reading there. Return to twitter from whence you came.

>He needs a stronger relationship with Peter Parker.

that seems to be something people don't want, I am kinda with them only because I don't want people to keep on complaining that miles doesn't have anything on his own.

Miles's standalone comic has 10 issues. What happened in them? Has Miles overcome a threat? Has he learned a lesson? Has he changed? Has he done FUCKING ANYTHING? No. Literally fuckall happened. 10 issues of nothing.

I should clarify, I really fucking like Robbie. He's on my pull list. But even despite that I still have to acknowledge he was conceived during that initial Marvel Now diversity push along with Kamala (who I also don't mind very much, but CWII has fucked her solo and Champions is hot garbage) and I don't think very highly of that sort of cynical artificial diversity push. So I "tolerate" that aspect of Robbie because as a book and otherwise as a character I like him.

He wouldn't exist if he wasn't black. He literally only exists to be black.

> can take Sup Forums slang but not twitter
to bad he does bring up some interesting points.

Same with Riri.

The problem with Miles is that we have no reason to identify with Miles. Hell, I'd argue that very few if any comics readers have any reason to identify with Miles other than his skin color and ethnic background.

eeh things happen ganke shown to be untrustworthy miles have a concerned mother miles is afraid of being more like his uncle. black cat knows what he looks like but not his name

things happen user, it's just that they don't go deep enough because of civil war 2 and bendis style of writing

This is along the same lines of why I hate Blizzard for deciding that Tracer should be a lesbian. I personally love lesbians, but not as an object to sell a game, like how blizzard apparently does. It's saddening. They're bodies are already click-baity enough...

Miles clearly has struggles, they're just not the type that can be punched in the face.

Miles struggles with missing dates because of Spider-Manning
Miles struggles with his race being made into an issue on social media after a costume malfunction.
Miles struggles with keeping a secret identity safe with loudmouthed friends and poor situational awareness and nosy abuelas.
Miles struggles with the legacy of his criminal uncle and the perceived criminality of his secret SHIELD agent dad
Miles struggles with the ethics of predictive justice and the social and racial implications of the whole Civil War thing.

It's less a superhero book and more a social commentary book. Miles punches people in the face in almost every one of his appearances. I kinda like that Bendis is more concerned about what it's like for a kid to live as a teen superhero in the Marvel universe without actually getting into the superheroics. If this was marketed as an indie book and they put some stylized art on it maybe people would like it better. Or maybe not. Sup Forums is full of whiny fucks, after all.

Oh, yeah. His grandma is the biggest threat Miles has faced in 10 issues. There is no story there. It's just a slice of life, just this slice of life sometimes involves one-shotting Blackheart of some Hydra mooks.

Nah, Blizzard isn't selling Overwatch just because Tracer is a lesbian. They were selling the game well before revealing that; they only really came out with it now because there was more interest in the concept than previously implied. Anybody who complains is just sad that their porn is now non-canon.

Those are fine issues to tackle.
Half the problem is that Bendis is the one to tackle them.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: The moment they give Miles' ongoing to another writer, even if it's only in a filler guest storyline, is the moment that Miles can and will likely improve. Bendis is what holds back Miles.

This young black man is slave to a fat Jew.

don't you like pushes in general or is it because this is more agenda part of the push you don't like

I also agree about Robbie. His comic was really good (stopped reading when they changed the inker)

Check out the christmas special. Storytime should still be up.

We hate Alpha, so yeah.

>If this was marketed as an indie book and they put some stylized art on it maybe people would like it better.
>There is no story there. It's just a slice of life, just this slice of life sometimes involves one-shotting Blackheart of some Hydra mooks.

Case in point.

Yeah, he wouldn't be as hated because Bendis wouldn't cram him down our throats as hard.

Bendis matters much more than his Blackness.

It is the young spiderman of bendis, whom he wishes to see replace Peter Parker one day.

I will write it more clearly (English isnt my first language)

The hatred of Miles, is a low level intensity of the hatred displayed by X-Men fans to the Inhumans, because Marvel wishes they would get big and eventually replace the X-Men.

The hatred is low level, because Miles is a personal project of Bendis, not of all of Marvel.

Jesus Christ.

I'm guessing this is the one that filled the "repeated panels" for the bingo?

go back to pol OP

I understand what you mean but that's not even in the same league, miles is nothing but expanding the spider-man brand, just look at homecoming they basically put peter in miles story. X-men is dying because of copyright reason, that's shit is real.

>le/pol/boogeyman

what I'm saying is the hate and fear is irrational while the x-men hate and fear is rational

But Sup Forums was okay with Miles for a while, they didn't have a problem with him being black.

I hate him cause he's boring. Also, Waid writes him like a huge pussy baby, "Oh no I'm in space, waaaah". I thought urban environments forced one to develop a hard exterior, he's more like your average white nerd faggot.

Bendis is fine to tackle it, as long as the run gets to go on as planned. Bendis writes for the Omnibus. He is the king of decompression. What made Ultimate Spider-Man and Daredevil and Alias and New Avengers great is what fucking tanked the X-Men and Moon Knight and Spider-Woman.

Most everything he did with the character got reset at Secret Wars. We're on issue 10. Let's wait and hope for the best.

All i want is miles going back to the ultimate team with young cloak and dagger

>Most everything he did with the character got reset at Secret Wars
That's a big part of the problem though. A lot of the genuinely good character development for him got washed away with Secret Wars and now we're re-hashing the uninteresting things. Like holy fuck do I not care about "my dad is secretly a SHIELD agent!" That was OK for a two issue arc in the original run but doing that same arc AGAIN because it doesn't fit into 616 is fucking lame.

Where you even here in 2011? /new/|Sup Forums was out in full force.

I shouldn't have to read years of a book to derive enjoyment out of it. Fuck Bendis.

wait in the 616 doesn't miles know about his past?

Are you new to Bendis? He's been doing this for like, 16 years at least.

That is left EXTREMELY ambiguous. It's been implied that he does, what with Ganke saying how he "has been acting different since 8 months ago" and him remembering things and people that only existed in 1610 (like Ultimate Cloak and Dagger).

But then it's never been explicitly stated and over in Gwenpool, he says he doesn't know what Gwen is talking about when she brings up the fact that he's from the ultimate universe and his mom is supposed to be dead.

I think Bendis hasn't decided one way or another whether he wants Miles to remember the Ultimate Universe or not.

Miles: shit legacy character
Robbie: good legacy character

It's kinda up in the air really. They've danced around it. He hinted like he knew in some books (Avengers?), but played dumb in Gwenpool.

The only character confirmed to remember everything is Black Panther.

No, I've never liked him because I hate his style. I love the Avengers and the 8 years he spent shitting on the franchise was awful.

I want him to remember so bad. I want a comic where miles is having a mental breakdown realizing only reason why he have a mom is because he gave a old cheeseburger to molecule man and that he's real mom and rest of his friends and family is dead. Would even fit with Ganke being untrustworthy ass and his mom acting so weird

Last time I checked, Sup Forums wanted Miles to be a cute brown fangirl.

for what reason?

Did you ever try Alias? Daredevil? Powers? USM?
Those were my intro to Bendis books, and the first two actually helped bring me into mainstream Marvel.

>Miles remembers some but not all of the details
>remembers that crazy Gwen girl who also said he was from another universe
>Miles goes to seek her out
>Miles now fucking two Gwens

I don't understand the question.

well yeah they are fine with black characters if they have big asses that should be a given

This is Sup Forums, we'll always find a reason to hate something.

Personally, I hate Miles along with a lot of the numarvel characters because I hate how everyone seems more concerned with looking good for the cameras than actually saving lives and doing good.

oh sorry, why do Black Panther remember?

Because he was the only one that didn't get caught in Reed/Molecule Man's reboot wave when he created the new universe. Right as the wave was about to hit, he used the reality gem to jump straight into the new universe.

Pic related.

If Miles wasn't black there'd be no reason for him to exist.

I started reading superhero comics way before Bendis was a thing. I read Alias, part of his Daredevil run and too much of his Avengers. No sir, I don't like it.

That's not the official interpretation of what happened. Word of God couldn't remember if it was the reality gem or the time gem.

cbr.com/hickman-brevoort-discuss-secret-wars-end-ushering-in-the-new-marvel-universe/

Personally I like to think that it was the time gem. Reed reset the universe to what we saw in all the relaunched titles, and BP sent himself back in time to before Hickvengers so he could do a better job vs Thanos and the incursions the second time around.

Sup Forums doesn't hate Static.

Sup Forums wasn't around when Static was relevant.
Sup Forums bitched up a storm when the rest of Milestone showed up in McDuffie's JLA.

>character has to be relevant to be liked/hated
oh

>hail hydra?

to be hated yeah kinda, why would anyone who hated miles today bring him up in the future when he's irrelevant (if he become irrelevant who knows)

only time alpha (for example) gets brought up is when we compare him to miles.

I'm saying, besides the blessedly brief New 52 disaster, Static hasn't been published regularly since long before Sup Forums was created. Static doesn't get huge threads. Nobody talks about him. Nobody cares. Sup Forums is indifferent to Static. He's not relevant to the modern comics discussion.

If the original Static run (or Icon) was published today, Sup Forums would be crying their fucking heads off over pandering/sjw/wewuzshitposting/etc.

I feel like we have this thread a lot.

>Miles struggles with missing dates because of Spider-Manning
Except we don't care because Bendis hasn't bothered to develop any LI's for Miles since SW.
>Miles struggles with his race being made into an issue on social media after a costume malfunction.
How has this been a "struggle" for him? It's also nonsense because there already IS a fucking Spider-Man.
>Miles struggles with keeping a secret identity safe with loudmouthed friends and poor situational awareness and nosy abuelas.
Wow. Truly a compelling struggle.
>Miles struggles with the legacy of his criminal uncle and the perceived criminality of his secret SHIELD agent dad
Are those even still fucking canon? Bendis hadn't brought them up at all, and they don't even make sense anymore. Black Fury is recent so he couldn't have recruited Jefferson in the past, and Miles uncle being the Prowler doesn't make sense anymore.
>Miles struggles with the ethics of predictive justice and the social and racial implications of the whole Civil War thing
CWII is fucking shit fuck off with your 2deep4u bullshit.

Fuck off newfag Bendis apologist.
>>>/Reddit/

>would miles be as hated on Sup Forums if he wasn't black?

Of course not, and anyone here who says he would be is a lying faggot. The fact that he is Black is really the only thing they have to go on. Same with Duke.
