DC/IDW Love is Love Storytime II

Old Thread

Let's continue this anthology in honor to the Orlando shooting victims

DON'T FORGET TO SUPPORT THE BOOK BY BUYING IT AND IN DOING SO SUPPORTING THE FAMILIES OF THE VICTIMS

Story by James Asmus & Ming Doyle

how many more pages is there?

Hahahaha. What?

>Most of these are almost hillariously on-the-nose and about as subtle or clever as a wrecking ball

>Dan DiDio has written the best story in the comic

The first part isn't a shocker. Most comic book writers, even ones I really dig, write about sexuality about as well as Scott Lobdell did in the 90s.

When Did Dan "The Perfect Man" DiDio become so self-aware and cool though? I know he's been like that for some time now, but when did he become so cool?

Sixty something?

>Dan's usually a pretty decent writer, he just never gets the chance to since he's EIC

the only series of his I can say isn't decent was his nu52 Phantom Stranger run

plus I mean, there's only so many ways you can write "Gay people aren't monsters!"

I bought this to support the cause, but damn there's some cringe shit in this.

I liked Morrison going full Morrison and Hickman going full Hickman, kek. Bendis was funny because of the lack of dialogue. The pages by Rob Williams, Didio, Scott Lope and Steve Orlando were pretty good though.

>the only series of his I can say isn't decent was his nu52 Phantom Stranger run
and even then it seems like he knew that and gave it to someone much better suited for it

King's was terrible. I think a lot of the time using the "brand" of a particular superhero hurts the story. Why was what comic Batman?

Some of these are good, but a lot are hamfisted and some of them (the Zeus one???) are just plain bizarre.

Still, I'm glad it was done.

Some are just kinda... Odd. Like, I get what they were going for, but the Supergirl one kinda stretches the limits of my suspension of disbelief. It's like, neither she nor her cousin were arsed to pop in and disarm that situation? It's kinda like the whole 9/11 Spider-Man issue. Makes the Avengers seem completely retarded (More so than normal) if they couldn't stop a plane.

Nigga where's the story?

I mean that's all it's really for, to raise money

a lot of artist and writers are on it and only have a page to work with, it's more about the message/ support than actual depth. Kinda like the old PSA comics

I mean fucking Extrano showed up and was actually the best part so far, if that's not worth the price I don't know what is

>plus I mean, there's only so many ways you can write "Gay people aren't monsters!"

You know, I loved the way the comic Screamland handled this. In it, Dracula is gay, and the comic basically goes "Dracula is literally a monster, but it's totally unrelated to him banging dudes."

I think we were rused

You should check out the Midnighter & Apollo mini, Extrano shows up there too and it's great.

yeah, I agree.

but that's a single issue in an ongoing narrative

this is just a fundraiser unless you have a clear vision and are very talented it's impossible to have a good story with those limitations

The fact that he shows up more and is better written than Apollo gives me mixed feelings.

That being said, I'd love for him, Midnighter and Apollo to go around kicking the shit out of the supernatural.

Sturge's LoSH story is probably one of dumbest stories in the whole book, mostly because it tries to imply that one event in the US would change the whole world's opinion about gay rights.

It probably would also have been more a tad bit more appropriate to use reboot Lyle instead of Imra since he's both from Earth and gay...

Sorry for the delay , My PC started acting all retarded all of the sudden

Story by James Tynion IV & Molly Knox Ostertag

>posts about dracula and homosex
>gets satanic trips

Neat.

But, for real. The best gay characters, much like the best minority characters period, tend to be just, y'know, people.

>Obsidian is the closest thing us fags have to a pre-New 52 Michael Holt (IE: A cool minority character who isn't a cliche with lightning powers or a from the hood origin)

Story by Maguerite Bennett & Aneke

Huh, Ostertag is a webcomic artist. That's her in the middle, and Noelle Stevenson (Nimona writer) who's her girlfriend. Margeruite Bennett behind them. I guess everyone in the strip must be a comics person.

>that nerdy twink

Story by Andrew Griffith & Cris Ryall

...

>Sturge's LoSH story is probably one of dumbest stories in the whole book, mostly because it tries to imply that one event in the US would change the whole world's opinion about gay rights.
did it involve any gay losh, like the tranny police officer, or ayla and salu?

It's really tone-deaf to have a page that explicitly mentions religious homophobia without depicting a crescent moon along with a cross, at the very least.

Just a cross in this particular instance is wilfully ignorant

If you have arm hair you're not a twink

Story by Jay Edidin & Sophia Foster-Dimino

>Female Beast

I can get behind that

I think the little kid is James Tynion IV; he's bisexual in real llife and this is a memoir

Story by Josua Dysart & Gary Erskine & Vel Zamor

Nope, just Imra, Superboy and a really heavy handed and badly executed moral.

Fine, otter, whatever

I want to fuck him is the thesis of my original statement

Yeah I got the guy was James, he's a friend of Bennett and I assume those two too. He's also the beardy guy in the large image. I just wasn't sure about anyone else.

Story by Jennie Wood & Jeff McComsey

Yeah man, even if his plotline revolves around him being gay, the writer really took the effort to make him a real character. It helps that he's an asshole to the point of being funny.

> Dracula is invited to a funeral
> talks about how sad he is about the person who died
> finishes speech pointing out about how everyone will die except for him and how it sucks for them.

>Nope, just Imra, Superboy and a really heavy handed and badly executed moral.
why not use any of the actual lgbt legion characters.

>looks kinda chubby
>hairy Tim Allen arms

That term is increasingly misused.

Not trying to come as as some nutjob from Sup Forums, but the die hard lefties consider it to be a big gauche to lay any of the blame on radical Islamic beliefs.

Like, I get that not all Muslims are like that. I truly do, but acting like there's not some serious gay bashing and outright killings happening in a lot of Middle Eastern nations (Let alone to numerous other human rights violations) is another.

>> finishes speech pointing out about how everyone will die except for him and how it sucks for them.
oh shit, I forgot about that kek

Story by David Macho & Jesus Saiz

I have no idea, it's not like there's a lack of them.

Story by Jeff Krell

>stand together proudly
>get shot in nightclub

...

>David Macho
>Jesus Saiz

These fucking names

Being gay may not be a choice, but that haircut was and it was the wrong one.

>All loves are equal but some are more equal than others

This one kinda really gave off the wrong vibe.

>blonde female shapeshifter turns into a chad and two black men

"My wife's son: The comic".

what the fuck is that thing

Story by Van Jensen & Alvaro Ortiz

IS BATMAN THE GAYEST CHARACTER OF THEM ALL?

He has appeared the most.

Poochy

Alpha Centurion!

>those dicks
wut

Story by B. Alex Thompson & Kevin Richardson

Batman appears in everything the most, it's what he's best at.

he's one of the few DC characters with a canon rainbow suit

But this is a comic for the gays, no? This means he's the gayest, surely.

I'll bet they would've sold at least 10 times as many issues if they had "Guest-starring:... BATMAN!!" on the cover.

Story by Chuck Kim & Phil Jimenez

And Christians do it in Africa. We ignore that too.

Him and Kyle

Shootings like that happen because of comics like this.

>Macho
heheh

Should've had the cover with Batman & Joker embracing.

cassie hack's demon dog

This one is actually really good IMO.

Story by Jeff Parker

Literally all of the Infinite Crisis masterminds have made the best stories in this book.

So he can draw too? My respect towards him has grown.

>Ivy being a fundoshi

alright, I laughed

Story by Greg Fox

Did she just assume they were gay, then force them together?
Stupid shit.

> fundoshi

user...

...

is anyone else reminded of HABEEB IT?

>virgin doesn't understand flirting

This looks like the opening page of a gay porn comic. Art reminds me of ITTY BITTY BOAT

Oh god I forgot about that.

Greatest comic of the century.

Story by Mike Carlin & Pedro Rodriguez

Came here to say this. Looks like "My wild and raunchy son" has a sequel.

I could do without this comic glorifying my coutnry's meme PM, I don't care how gay friendly he is

Story by Ross Fisher & Brenna Davis & Yildray Cinar

>fundoshi
I laughed too. thanks, user

>newfags don't know about the glorious HABEEB IT
I just realized I've been here too long.

>thinks classical music is for fags
>Didn't care for Sta Trek: The Motion Picture

Mike has really shitty taste.

>fell asleep in ST
Fuck him.

n

Holy fuck I'm glad I'm not the only one

I wonder how strict IDW was with their IPs? Because I'd expect some rather obvious choices to be here.

Story by Christo & Ruth Gage & Andrei Bressa

I can't believe it

...

HABEEB IT.

TWINKIE HOUSE

Well you better habeeb it.

Someone should storytime it in /aco/.

>that costume
neat

>bottom left

Wow! Jimmy's dating a big girl.

Story by Patrick Zicher

Everyone who's not Superman looks like a very stereotypical mannequin

...user...

>those trunks and belt combo
