Golden Girl thread

So what would the /coc/ New Years party look like?

needs more Golden Girl

at the sock 'op?

Why are they called poodle skirts?

These first felt poodle skirts were appliquéd with poodles, hence their name. ... Most wore circle skirts that were plain. Circle skirts were sold in inexpensive clothing stores as well as in the high end stores. During the day, most women wore plain circle skirts.

ap·pli·qué
ˌapliˈkā/
verb
past tense: appliquéd; past participle: appliquéd
decorate (a piece of fabric) with appliqué.
"the coat is appliquéd with exotic-looking cloth"
sew or stick (pieces of fabric) onto a large piece of fabric to form pictures or patterns.
"the floral motifs are appliquéd to christening robes"

I was thinking about the seasonal girls as magical girls, and the common image of magical girls with angel wings, even if only in the transformation scenes, then a thought occurred to me: what would such a concept look like if taking inspiration from Polish winged hussars?

And on that subject:

More jokes, less porn.

I'm imagining every feather on those wings being a knife.

They were normal feathers, but they used specially bred horses so that they could run so fast, fully loaded, that the wings would make a loud screaming sound as it split the air. Very effective psychological opening for a shock troop, once made an entire Turk army shit themselves and run away.

That possibly answers one question then.

...

>More jokes, less porn.
This seems counterintuitive for an /aco/ project.

Exactly, since GG is not an /aco/ project.
Any particular reason you insist on this bait at least once every thread she appears in?

I'm willing to bet he has his own favorite /coc/ project and gets butthurt that GG tends to hog the spotlight.

Now we need Bri in GG's outfit gasping for air.

Or her holding a ruined GG outfit she tried to wear that count contain her when she flexed her muscles.

Though really, if we want to go somewhere with GG, we could come up with some plots about the Jade Empress since she's supposed to be one of their serious villains.

That or simply struggling not to burst out of it while Audrey's still enraptured by the whole "wearing a top that's too big for her" thing.

Yeah, and we still need some strips establishing the details about Billy. How he's one of Audrey's classmates, and how he can't make the connection between her and GG despite the obvious similarities and the similar spaghetti-dropping reactions both evoke from him.

Pretty much all the secondary characters still need an introduction in comic form.

There are ideas for those, but no one with artistic talent has drawn them yet.

I've had this kernel of an idea for a Billy strip, but I'm not sure if it'll pop. It's not so much an outline as it is an idea for the layout: It'd start off showing Audrey and Billy at school, and then a series of split-screen panels would show the two of them heading their separate ways and changing into their respective outfits, and then the two perspectives would come back together at the end with a confrontation between GG and Rocker Billy.

So panel one would be them waving in the halls at school, then the panel below that in the second line of panels in the strip would be them facing off in their get-ups?

Something like that, yeah.

bumb for that sweet ass armor.

It's possible he's also the autist on /aco/ that keeps trying to push his traps and fat fetishes onto the project.

Two Birds, the living armor/golem.

No one knows what his purpose is and he's not talking.

For those who haven't looked, someone in the /aco/ thread's been splicing together GG cover mockups.

...

A couple are good, but the rest look cluttered? For lack of a better word.

Yeah, the Jade Empress one is kind of blah. I do like this one, though.

I like the concept of the Jade Empress cover where GG has to go undercover at a fancy party.

Yeah, the idea's got potential. Maybe it's one of those fancy museum galas to display some artifact/collection that Jade Empress is letting them showcase. (Does she have a public identity to cover her activities? Some wealthy foreign recluse or something?) And of course Sarah Sterling and Audrey Page are in attendance because it's the sort of thing rich socialites go to.

I would assume the Jade Empress has a public persona since she puts forth the effort to maintain a non-mummified appearance.

A wealthy foreigner is good enough for a cover.

Does Sarah have a mansion or a large condo on top of a building?

I always sort of figured a mansion. Stately Sterling Manor and all that.

So would it be located on the outskirts of the city with a lot of grounds surrounding the mansion, or inside the city?

Never thought that far, honestly. Outskirts would be in keeping with the Batman influences, though locating it inside the city could a nice break from the norm.

I'd say have it be in the city, that way they're closer to the action and Audrey doesn't need to commute as far to school.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing.

So in the city, maybe off of a main road or a side road with a big gate in front.

The yard wouldn't be too massive, but big enough so that there's plenty of room under the property for whatever is in the Silver Queen HQ.

Well, it's the new year now and toonami is doing a DBZ Kai marathon. Not going to stay up late for that, so I'm going to bed.

Hoping this thread survives the night.

...

Much props to whoever that is, these are neat.

Imaginos, apparently. You can just make it out on the right side of the images.

They're cluttered on purpose. Have you looked at golden age/silver age comic book covers. Quite a lot of them are garish and cluttered with word bubbles all over among other things.

I did all but the very first cover. That was done by I think the guy who runs the golden girl booru.

The Jade one was done on a request.

Mostly I lurk in /tg/'s cyoag thread helping people with PS or creating a cyoag now and then. Used to come to Sup Forums all the time but haven't in awhile.

...

Yeah, a lot of the actual golden age comics I've seen have huge blocks of text with every panel.

It was the style at the time to have a lot of narration.

Because of that one pic from 3 or 4 years ago, I seem to associate /coc/ new years with body paint.

What pic?

The one of Casey with 2013 painted across her chest.

>The protagonist joins the police force to find a broken and unequal system, it is also critique on British culture of the 2010's. It's got a bit of a fantasy side to it so it's not entirely boring.

Well what do you think? What should I add and what should I take away?

What kind of fantasy?

It's like contemporary/magic realism but feels like an epic. Been mostly thinking about plot

>British culture of the 2010's

British culture died with the empire. There is no such thing as "British" culture any more. It's all either Islamic or American culture.

True, true but that's why I want talk about it

>I can myself clearly remember standing on Portsmouth shore on the sultry August day in 1960 when the Royal Navy's last battleship, HMS Vanguard, was towed to the breaker's yard. The great 44,000-ton sea monster had been a relic when she was completed in 1946, too late for the war in which she was meant to fight. She had been built for a world that no longer existed, and had spent the last few years of her life as a hulk unable to move under her own power. Yet within her beautiful lines and enormous guns (dating from 1916 and rarely if ever fired) she was one of the most impressive and evocative sights of her times. It was typical of those times that, as she was dragged to her last resting place, she should have run aground on a mudbank. Nothing, it seemed, could go right for us any more.

>In a typical geography textbook of the 1950s, you can almost hear the waves crashing on to the cliffs: 'Ever since the days of Queen Elizabeth the sea has meant life to Britain. Her sea-captains led the way to the lands that make her Empire. Sea-ways bring out food and materials to our factories...In our greatest danger, the sea has protected us.' This book, by the way, also assumes a common knowledge of British culture that would leave a modern teenager staring blankly. It casually quotes Longfellow, Hardy, and Kipling, and refers to Tennyson's great 'Ballad of the Fleet' as if 'every schoolboy knew' these now neglected verses.

On Jade Empress's public persona, some Googling about tells me there's a female Chinese name, Daiyu, that means "black jade," and that "empress" in Chinese is Huánghòu.

So would Daiyu Huánghòu be too on-the-nose, do you think?

Given the era you can get away with something vaguely racist and dehumanizing. You have to remember that Silver Quee and Golden Girl are an homage to the time of Ming the Merciless and Egg Fu.

I think we could and should go far more over the top. She's a yellow peril villain. That's the entire point.

Of course I *also* personally consider Iris to be Asian as well to balance it out.

Thank you

Hmm, good point. Should we also draw from Chinese food menus for her name?

No, that's on point for the time period.

Maybe one of her covers is she owns a number of restaurants around town.

We need to keep in mind that too much depth or identifiablity could theoretically end up making Jade Empress code immune and we probably don't want that.

So do we want her to have a civilian cover, or not?

Should she just be some rich lady who sometimes comes into town on poorly defined business?

Aww, such a cute picture..it must be an early one right? He looks so Young.

Yeah, like I first said, just have her public persona be some mysterious rich foreign recluse. Going back to , my thought was that SQ and GG know she's the Jade Empress, and any time she makes a public appearance, it means she's planning something big. So they attend the gala to spy on her and find out her plans.

So they can't get her public appearance arrested for whatever reason?

Most likely they've never been able to get the evidence to connect her to Jade Empress's activities. After 800 years, she'd be pretty good at covering her tracks.

What face does she use when committing criminal activities? A mask?

Does she just send her jade monsters to do her bidding or does she also play a direct role?

I think it'd be fitting if she came along for every heist because she wants to be the first to hold her new treasure.

A Chinese mask would add a dramatic flair to her design.

I could see her coming along with her golems, but controlling them from the shadows until they actually find what she's looking for.

Any formal wear or armor?

A huge silk dress of some kind?

I don't know if she'd wear armor, since she relies on her monsters to do the dirty work. Probably something ornate, though.

She's a warlock so big ornate robes are the way to go.

Not so fast user. It was tested and while the wings did make noise, you couldn't hear them over the horse hooves from the charge.

There are other theories about the wings. First is that they would protect the backs of the riders and/or keep them safe from the use of lassos that the different stepp people such as Mongols, Tarters, Kazaks, etc would use. Problem is that hussars used their wings when fighting everyone not just these people.

Second Theory is that they made the riders look larger and more intimidating. Pretty simple theory.

Third theory is the sound one but as I said earlier, the hoof beats would be as loud as the whistling so forget the "horns of Jericho" effect being useful there.

And the fourth theory, pure looks. Winged Hussars look like mounted angels charging. Also the standard of Poland is an eagle while the Standard of Lithuania is a horse rider. So the hussar wings might have been an attempt at an anthropomorphization of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. A living symbol of the united country.

So big silk ribbons?

I guess? I'd have to see them to get a clearer idea.

Awesome!

There goes the soup.

You have a fetish for spilled soup?

I had a thought about her having a mask. My mind kept coming back to that Scooby-Doo episode with the ghost wearing a gold Chinese mask, and it occurred to me: What if Jade Empress wore a mask made of jade? Her bio on the wiki says she has a mystical artifact that lets her create her golems, so maybe we could even make the mask that artifact.

I was also thinking about a jade mask.

Is it a separate magical item that keeps her looking alive and not mummified?

Yeah, I think it makes sense for her glamour to have a separate source.

working on something for bug. Hopefully I can help revive these damned threads.

Well, maybe the thread will make it through the night.

Maybe the reason why Jade Empress wants magical items is because whatever is keeping her looking young and not rotten needs magic to recharge.

Neat. Is that one of those lost tribe/South American faes?

Yes it is. I don't want to say more due to not knowing if the writer is ready to share information just yet.

You live! We were just mourning you a couple of weekends ago. Your gallery was nowhere to be found.

>those hips
>those boobs
>that headdress

It's not an overstatement that I am greatly anticipating seeing more of this character.

I had a rough moment and destroyed all my art. So whatever is saved is saved.

What a cheerful grin...

Are these threads sorta like "OC Donut Steel" threads?
Like, you people post your own stuff here?

sort of
these threads are all building on a Sup Forums "universe" called the Sup Forumsllective
basically, if you post a character here, you're throwing it into the Chippino to fit into the Sup Forums world and be built upon by other anons

Oh, ok then.
I was sorta confused how these threads differed from the Donut Steel ones.

yeah, its super similar
it's about as different as a general drawthread from a work on your art thread

The basic difference is that you're posting things in here with the exact opposite expectation of "Do Not Steal". You're giving ideas up to the collaborative, placing them into the communal sandbox for anyone to use.

>Maybe the reason why Jade Empress wants magical items is because whatever is keeping her looking young and not rotten needs magic to recharge.
A classic motivation. I like it.

So what should it be?

Or should Jade Empress just drain the magic herself using an elaborate ritual?

I don't think it matters in the slightest since she'll only ever appear in a 3ish panel gag strip. That's the entire point of GG, overly complicated backgrounds are totally unnecessary.

Maybe there's a strip where SQ is captured and Jade Empress is about to drain the magic from the bracers and then GG somehow saves the day.

Some update for ladybug summer special...
Storyboard for page 31.
Script adapted into storyboard: 9/35

Full page worked out: 23
Completed Storyboard Layout: 31
COmpleted Colored: 0

... which to be honest, kind of abysmal. I didn't realize how slow it was until I started counting the pages myself. I will try harder this year...

2017 will be better

I like this. Could we combine it with the chain reaction idea that's been sitting around for ages, or would that be too comedic a defeat for Jade Empress?
