Basically, Earth is on a collision course with fucking Jupiter. The father creates a rocket pod to get his kid off Earth and "save" her. The pod creates a virtual world for her as needed, but as she gets older she suddenly remembers her childhood on Earth and the apocalypse.

Whether or not you consider the dad's action the correct one is up for debate. There will never be a rescue. She is floating, alone, in space, and no one is alive to save her.

Nice animation and a creative story, but very sad. Not sure that was the right choice to send the girl into space, along and with nowhere to go.
Better bet would have probably been to just enjoy the last days and die cherishing what you had. As well as betting on the hopes there's an afterlife.
Then again, to carry on the memory and legacy of humanity means that perhaps it could be salvaged.

If none of them saw the original short, they could watch the whole thing and not realize it's not the whole thing. If they ask for thing and they get a thing that looks like what they expected, I can see where they'd get mixed up.
