Now that the dust has settled

Was removing the forums and accounts a good idea?

"No!"

probably not, since their "users" most likely migrated to reddit, and reddit migrated over here

No. It was a hilarious place to talk about movies, far better than this shithole.

The forums were amazing. I was sad to see them go.

Not at all. Lots of the lesser known movies had enjoyable and useful forums.

terrible, it was the only way i could tell if a movie was worth watching or not

No, it's users came here expecting us to talk about film and then get pissed because we just post waifus and pickle ricks.

It was an atrocious idea - and the only reason to do it was to stop people shitting on bad movies.

Is IMDb an anti-Christian movie rating site? Perhaps not, but it is certainly the anti-James Bond in its rejection of wonder.

I was wondering where they all went. It was a terrible idea.

Every single time I went on the boards it was insane old people ramblings (legit schizophrenic stuff) or 12 year olds screaming about how much they love epic capeshit

>Which is actually pretty much Sup Forums

The alien vs predator requiem forums were always a hoot.

Nobody even cares about IMDb ratings anymore. The userbase is all but gone and RT has come off as the new go-to destination due to media coverage.

I mean, the forums were cancerous sure, but still, there was some valid discussion. I still haven't found a good replacement.

>Have a platform where users are able to find and discuss even the most obscure of kinos
>Kill it

Thanks Big Corporate

This is something that is more visible in video game industry. Back in the day, you had Battle net that allowed flame wars, trading, chats with other users etc. Then Blizz got really big and killed user interaction altogether. Same with youtube scoring system etc.

And that is why they took it down. They want you to be dependent on RT score and Chris Stuckmann's reviews. There was way to much truth on these boards for Hollywood scum to take.

I don't care about the ratings on any site, it's always fake. But imdb still has a good feature, the user reviews are excellent to make an opinion.

Didn't someone male an archive? Can you use the wayback machine to view them?

moviechat.org/

And it's not an archive, it's IMdB without the filter system.

So much this, really good and seems to hold a decent user base.

What was their reason for removing it? What was the actual reason?

It was filled with a bunch of legitimately crazy fucking people like the people who watch infowars or browse /x/ tier sites in their free time and they were all really old or children reviewing capeshit

It was a terrible idea, I hope Brendan is doing ok

I still remember one deranged message board member say how he predicts IMDB will die off when they removed the message boards. I didn't even know it had message boards and my account is from 2004. Still laugh at his prediction, but hearing about the boards afterwards I kinda wish they still existed.

Honestly, their app is pretty good. The website is garbage but the app gives you all the movie trailers you'd ever need, reviews, ratings and news from the official site, its pretty much my movie homepage.

Whenever I go to an IMDB page of and old movie and see the old discussions aren't there I get frustrated

If it was anything like here, I would have removed them too. I wouldn't want you fags posting on my website.

What if the website was your source of income?

This. I used to look forward to the discussions becasue they were very good at pointing out why the reviews are shit (or not).

The oscars were being too liberal and they wanted to silence the opposition.

>you will never again take administrative control of a rival starcraft clan's chat channel by whispering esoteric commands to their bot

feels bad man

no, now the user reviews are troll central. The forums contained the trolls and also had some fun discussions, something this shit hole will and never become.

No, there's not many places on the internet to actually talk about many of the obscure films they had on there.

Fucking pathetic.

Nope
It was fun checking out the forums, especially for movies the ones that don't have a lot of activity.
There were interesting trivia or something to read

If you look at anything else than the genre to decide whether or not to watch a movie you are a pleb. Trailers, discussion, reviews.. those are for after seeing the film.

i dont have time to watch every random movie i come across user

You are killing time on an anime image board as we speak, you have time.

No, I haven't used imdb since they removed them. Fuck them, I genuinly loved posting there.

and i dont feel like spending it watching garbage desu senpai

no but it had to be done. the last couple years were just horrible unfunny shitposts

It was genuinely a reprehensible decision. The forums were one of a kind. At least MovieChat archived a lot of posts and seems to be a viable alternative for the future.

[b][blue]NO[/b][/blue][cheers]

>moviechat.org/
GoT board is super slow. Where did those guys go?? I loved that board.

every movie you watch is garbage if you already know what you're about to see

I fucking miss the boards so much

I awakened so many whites to the holohoax lie and brought them to Sup Forums stormfront because of the Shindlers list board

I know I turned 100s of whites into kike hating neonazis because of that board

i guess if your idea of a twist is whether or not your going to fall asleep

>I watched a 30 minute review but it didn't reveal the TWIST in the last 10 minutes so it's not spoilers
I can feel my IQ dropping just reading your messages

well now your just arguing just to argue. some posts on a message board are not the same thing as a 30 minute review, and im not going to walk into something without any idea of what it is.

There was a guy who stopped posting years ago named Alien Defication who was funny. I miss him.

On IMDB you could actually discuss movies and/or tv show. Which is the total opposite of what Sup Forums is. I'm still very mad it's gone.

>and im not going to walk into something without any idea of what it is.
and that's precisely why I'm calling you a pleb of the highest degree

Well, it makes me post more about obscure movies on Sup Forums, but people rarely develop any interesting discussion about them, so...

>It was filled with a bunch of legitimately crazy fucking people like the people who watch infowars or browse /x/
what no why do you people saya that

Yes i mean people who solely watch infowars and watch the stream for most of their day and nothing else

Nope. One of the worst mistakes a major site has made recently. Those forums were the soul of the site. You could see a random movie on television and then go to the message board for it and see all the comments people had left over the years, and leave your own contribution to the discussion. It was what a true message board was supposed to be (as opposed to sites like Sup Forums and reddit which have become chat rooms).

it was better than tumblrboxd, that's for sure.

There was a guy on IMDb's message boards who would post birthday wishes to all of the dead porn stars on their respective board. Only the dead ones.

>they were all really old
The boomers weren't that bad compare to the kids.

Even looking at the name of the movie is too much.
Ideally you should go to the movies blindfolded and ask for them to put in a random session
