Can someone explain the canonicity of the Incredible Cross-Sections? Are they canon or are they Legends now?
I also didn't see links to any archives in the pastebin. Are there no good ones?

They're not canon anymore (except the TFA one, I guess), though information from them is slowly being recanonized. I don't think they've released a new version of the old cross-sections books since the canon purge, like they did with Complete Locations.
...which by the way is still kind of unreliable, since it leaves in a lot of stuff that's explicitly wrong, such as the rows of offices behind the senate pods.
I think the current policy is that things like technical details, ship designations etc. are "canon until otherwise conflicted"
for example the HWK-290 appeared in some mobile game but wasn't named as such, so people asked and they said

They screwed the pooch by not showing anything in regards to his friendship to Galen Erso except for a single flashback. It would have expanded his character so much more and made him more than a stereotypical cruel villain of the week.

You know what the Prequel Trilogy did right? Mechanical design. The starships and vehicles were beautiful, both the shiny Republic stuff and the worn-out everyday stuff like the Podracers or the droid from Jek's diner or the hyperspace refugee buses.

Yeah, but that one's from 2007. There was also a Complete Vehicles from 2013, just short of the canon purge.
For reference, there was also an earlier version of Complete Locations in 2005, the 2016 one is basically the same thing just with TFA stuff added.

Naboo N-1 is like a sleek 1940s cruiser car, the T-65 X-wing is an '83 Honda. The performance increased, but the "beautiful crafstmanship" was replaced with utilitarian design.

I think that's silly. I can understand that some people just really want the films without the changes, but I think when you start altering the colors and damaging the footage it's just time to stop.

Harmy uses multiple sources to despecialize the films. don't know all of them though, since I don't really care for the despecialized editions all that much

I don't like it either, but it's consist with the philosophy behind the despecialized versions.
I'm not sure if I want to get the black series figure for my collection, given he's a one-off character that will never be references again, ever.
The only thing that could persuade me otherwise is if it gets heavily discounted in the coming year, and there's really no other worthwhile imperial officers in the figure range.

imperial ships were based on geometric shapes to make them look unnatural and therefore hostile. it does not resemble anything made on earth
the XYA were made to resemble conventional fighters in order to give them a sense of familiarity and comfort, the X-wing was explicitly based of the spitfire, the Y-wing doesnt have an inspiration listed but is assumed to be the P-38, the A-wing is not based on anything, but the central bubble cockpit, rear engines, and the A-shape giving the appearance of "wings" grounds it in reality
the TIE=Zero is actually from EU, where they are described as fragile, but with good turning

As for the Y-wing (and to some extent the B-wing) I've always gotten heavy A-10 Thunderbolt vibes from them

the ships in general are mixture of WW2 fighter planes and hot rods, with a touch of 70s era jets (the A-10 did not exist)
the X-wing is a space superiority fighter, like an F-22 or F-15, and possibly the P-51 or F-86 designed to shoot other fighters
the Y-wing is a strike fighter, it can dogfight just long enough to clear a path to bomb something
the F/A-15 or the P-38 fit this role
the A-wing is an interceptor, it is supposed to engage bombers before they drop their payload, and the mig-21 Fishbed comes to mind

Black Series can be really hit or miss. Stormtrooper was one of their first sculpts in the line, so they hadn't quite gotten a handle on it (technically they released it as a Sandtrooper first and later made a clean version).
Man the old videogames really did a poor job of representing the Y-wing then.

The X-Wing's primary role is fighter-bomber not superiority. That goes to the A-Wing modified. It was designed to take on capital ships and fighters

I like your comparisons, though ROTJ's space battle is funny since the fighters pretty much go nuts. A-wings and X-wings taking out bombing targets with lasers and a Y-wing popping two Interceptors in the blink of an eye. Star Wars has the best of both worlds I guess?

Since we're talking about tech, why are Star Wars ships atmospheric speeds so low? Modern Jets are faster than most of the craft in lore.
It looks great considering how small it and affordable it is. It's the absolute best you can get without getting the huge and incredibly overpriced Japanese versions.
Which scares me. I actually just ordered a black series FO Stormtrooper. I mean, by what I've seen in reviews, the quality is just fine, but I don't know if it changed in recent builds, like Kylo Ren's lightsaber.
the Y-wing in the movies were fighter-bombers, with a Y-wing shooting down a TIE interceptor in RotJ, but the video games made them pure bombers to differentiate them
in X-wing TTG, they are only slightly less maneuverable than an X-wing, otherwise having very similar moves available, while in Armada, the Y-wing is just as fast as the X-wing, trading dogfighting for superior bombs
the X-wing can engage all targets even capital ships, but the movies, video games, and TTG show that fighter-to-fighter is their most glamorized role
the XYAB can all kill other ships in a dogfight, but they do it in different ways

Aerodynamics are standardized to settings that don't fit any planet because that would give an economic advantage somewhere and that would be corruption. Going with European Union logic here.
