The ending is easily the strangest aspect of this movie. The entire movie has the anti-racism message although scenes like the dinner conversation bring valid points and help to show why some people end up that way but then at the end Derek's little brother gets killed for literally no reason. All he did was stand up to some black thug who was bullying some other kid.

The whole movie is summed up with black teacher talking to Derek in the prison ward. All the anger he had and all the hate, justified or not, what did it get him? Did it make anything better? No.
Danny and Little Henry were both raised to despise each other for no reason. The difference in the end is that Danny has an actual role model in Derek to save him from his fate as skinhead trailer trash, but it's too late, the damage is done.
