The whole scene was meant to show Jaune's trust in Ren. It wasn't a goodbye see yah but Jaune basically telling Ren "I trust you" because Ren and subsequently Nora's insistence in heading to the mountains wouldn't have led to Qrow's survival which should be the priority.

I really hope there's something more to his character than mini-Jacques. There's just no real point for him otherwise when you have full sized Jacques as an antagonist to Weiss.
