Recommend me some cyberpunkino that's not Blade Runner or The Matrix
Recommend me some cyberpunkino that's not Blade Runner or The Matrix
there was 1 movie with keanu reeves, mid 90s, pre matrix
dark city
Mousehunt
Johny Mnemonic
I haven't seen it, I only know because Spoony had a lets play of the game
Lawnmower Man 1 and 2.
In no particular order of quality:
>Split Second
>Nemesis
>Hardware
>Johnny Mnemonic
>Strange Days
>Gunhed
>Tetsuo
>Tetsuo 2: Body Hammer
>Akira
>Ghost in the Shell (1995)
>Robocop
>Robocop II
>Total Recall (1990)
>Burst City
>Electric Dragon 80,000v
>Hellevator - The Bottled Fools
>964 Pinocchio
>Wicked City
>Cyber City Oedo 808
>Genocyber (only the first episode is particularly cyberpunk, or worth watching)
>>Genocyber (only the first episode is particularly cyberpunk, or worth watching)
Only watch this is you hate yourself.
...
>Genocyber
the third ova was so shit I could barely pay attention to it. But the first episode is quite good and really fucking violent.
The second episode is not so bad but I can barely remember it, except for the first scene, in which they massacre some children with a minigun.
...
...
Bubblegum Crisis - a mix of Blade Runner and Streets of Fire, and then Kenichi Sonoda and Masami Obari filling in with robots going berserk and floofy 80s girls who wear spandex and do aerobics.
Armitage III - literally the plot of Blade Runner 2049. The III refers to the generation of robot, Firsts are robot looking, seconds are mostly realistic, Thirds are basically human enough to where they can start procreating.
...
It really felt like all the budget and ideas went into the first OVA. It had a very cool, clean animation style compared to the other two. The only memorable part of OVA 2 is the very graphic, super-edgy scene of young children getting mowed down by a minigun in the opening seconds, and the catamaran aircraft carrier design. OVA 3 is unwatchable trash.
Speaking of things that Blade Runner 2049 lifted from:
>Macross Plus
AND YOU DONT SEEM TO UNDERSTAND
Like what?
Neo Tokyo: Running Man (short film)

Only one could bring Faye Dunaway out of retirement and confound all reviewers with its visionary genius.
anyone here seen metropolis the anime?
I felt like Joi owed an awful lot to Sharon Apple, especially the giant billboard version.
That's not cyberpunk, that's cyberfantasy
nu uh
Strange Days
im just posting screenshots form Dark City
I see a blu ray exists, but I cant find a torrent for it. Does one exist?

Patlabor
Gun Smith Cats
Bubblegum Crisis
Universal Soldier
Cyborg 1 and 2
Nemesis
Class of 1999
Surrogates
Max Headroom 120 min into the future
just stop your cryin', it's the sign of the times
>Strange Days
Can this meme die already? It's not cyperpunk, it's regular 1995 with one sci-fi invention.
Props for Cyber City Oedo. Goku Midnight Eye is more fitting than Wicked City though.
How did nobody mention this?
judging by the title its pretentious garbage
So slow. Kind of felt like a Battle Angel Alita ripoff.
Also going to throw up the trailer for my own Class of 1999 recommendation.
youtube.com
Its got the greats like Stacy Keach , Malcolm McDowell and Pam Greer.
youtube.com
The sequel was fun also.
youtube.com
Don't bother posting such a worthless opinion.
oops was meant for
>oops (you) was meant for (you)
nice one dude
I've been telling people again and again, the best cyberpunk movie that was ever made apart from blade runner is Total Recall 2012
It is a fully realize cyberpunk movie that not afraid to show the future world in it's full glory, all the sexy robot design you drool over in sci-fi artbooks are here.
Watch this movie
It was much more like the book but felt kind of hollow to me. I need to rewatch it though thanks for reminding me.
Hackers
This movie was fucking awful to me for years but Ive grown to love it. More so even now with nostalgia goggles on for the 90s.
Fortress
youtube.com
The whole movie is on YouTube.
>reddit shits are now recommending reboots
summer never ends
My nigga
dredd
thats post apocalypse, not cyberpunk.
...
it's both
lol its pretty good but i have a massive hard on for the worst movies
the goat
watch it with subs
no dub trash
12 Monkeys.
5th Element
Not cyberpunk, it just borrows some aesthetics from Blade Runner like every other piece of sci fi since. Fifth Element is a space opera.
Yea, one flying taxi scene in a megacity doesn't make an entire movie cyberpunk.
2046 is mostly 60s harem kino, but the sci-fi bits, especially the establishing shots, are cyberpunkesque
Seconded. It starts out with a cyberpunk feel then you realize it's just 1995. Still, you get a pretty hot POV rape scene that has yet to be topped in any porn I've found
absolute kino
Does Advent Children count? Wasn't all that good, but the action was decent.
10/10 movie
Critics are retarded.
the real successor to the original Blade Runner
Just yesterday i was trying to remember the name of this movie.
Thanks user.
How can people say that?
The new film is already much closer to the book, unlike that shitty old noir flick.
the new film relies too much on the original and is more about telling, then showing. It's also waifu bait the film. Not to mention it doesn't have the iconic tears scene.
>shitty old noir flick
The old one was much more, it inspired dozens of cyberpunk films, many of them being borderline plagiarism.
than showing*
The latest Ghost in the Shell movie is probably the best piece of modern cyberpunk. Shits on that slow slog 2049 was.
yes, also when joi was glitching outside the car window
...
>Bai Ling
Grossaroo
>Bai Ling top billed
There's just no way this is good.
This looks like a movie that would be reviewed by one of those shitty-movies-that-no-one-remembers channels.
Fa/tv/irgins who aren't into anime should watch this. Best modern sci-fi mystery after Stand Alone Complex.
>Not to mention it doesn't have the iconic tears scene.
This has to be bait. Literally "They changed it, now it sucks".
More dieselpunk than cyberpunk.
I think he means it doesn't have a single scene as memorable or iconic and he's right, 2049 was a painfully mediocre film.
fair
It's this.
Akira
This tried to be it, but wasn't as effective as the tears in the rain scene. If only Denis was as good as Spike Jonze, and could get a Gosling performance like in Half Nelson or Blue Valentine.
>Memeworthy Macross Plus ripoff featuring Real Human Bean
Not even close to the same level as some of the scenes from the original film. Blade Runner set trends, 2049 just incestuously recycled older material that often was inspired by Blade Runner.
