My Little Pony, as a franchise, has been around for about 35 years now. Hasbro has finally mastered the art of peddling this particular brand of toy. So long as toy sales remains incredibly profitable, they series isn't going anywhere.
Even if the show finally does die, do you honestly think that would be the end?
No. Because they know that this formula works. They'll just create a new pony show and start the process anew.

Because the writers were just starting to break the show's mold, making it become more character driven. I give them points for being experimental, but they really did not know how to handle their own characters or pace a story. People also hate the change in animation, but I personally favored the zany, fluid style.
