I believe that given more years, more learning, JOI may have evolved into a completely autonomous entity, even growing past her code that makes her unconditionally love K. You could definitely see the beginnings of it.
It would be interesting to know how long the JOI companion had been on the market prior to the time of the film. Is "she" a relatively new product, so they don't actually know yet what her evolutionary potential is?
