Rudy never drew cool shit like giant robots or laser blasters or fighter jets. This show was supposed to be about the doodles kids made coming to life and Rudy didn't do anything high tech or complex.
So the chalk just seemed so wasted. He could do anything at all but always did stuff that looked like it came out of a children's book in 1920. Hell, even the boys in 1920 were drawing tanks and fast cars on their chalkboards.

Despite having a setting that was loose enough to be an endless spring of creativity, it was played incredibly flat. Most episodes played around protecting something/making sure Chalk Zone wasn't discovered, which even for regular alternate dimension cartoons is like the most boring approach to take. The characters were all bland and when they introduced actual plot elements none of it could hold up, even with how basic those plot elements were.
It was a show about creativity, that was extremely uncreative.
