Is there a single mainstream director working today that could defeat Denis Villeneuve?

Is there a single mainstream director working today that could defeat Denis Villeneuve?

Probably whoever comes next in the fedorian first year "film" buff
Fincher-->Aronofsky-->Nolan-->Mendes/Inarritu-->Villeneuve-->

>fedorian

typical Sup Forums

If were talking about fisticuffs I'd go with Bay. He's 2 inches higher and has the reach advantage.

Avatar 2 soon

...

Did you mean Chazelle/Inarritu? Mendes has been around for ages

agree

would add patty jenkins and edgar wright to that list

The Master > Prisoners
Inherent Vice > Enemy
Phantom Thread > Blade Runner 2049

You are a total pleb and your existence is meaningless. The best course of action to take here is to end your life. You know you want to do it.

>unironically thinking villeneuve is better than pta
What does if feel like not being able to appreciate art?

Pick a mainstream female director, she uses rape allegations and Villeneuve is defeated

no
there are two

PTA is legitimately one of the most empty and meaningless directors of our time. Nothing about his films are good apart from technical competence. Punch Drunk Love is the only remotely authentic work of art he has created

>not Boogie Nights
Who's the real pleb here?

Their work has declined in recent years

A challenger appears.

what then is filling and meaningful about villeneuve?

never read the book (inherent vice) but somehow feels like the movie fails at doing it justice

>Fincher-->Aronofsky-->Nolan-->Mendes/Inarritu-->Villeneuve-->
Fincher hasn't done a quality film since Zodiac
Aronofsky ? Not since Requiem for a dream. (The Wrestler was overrated).
Nolan ? His last top quality film was Inception.
Mendes ? Hasn't done anything interesting since Road to Perdition.

Iñárritu Is the only legit director in that list...The only one who has yet to fuck up...
Nolan is overall solid but on the decline...Interstellar had potential but the whole library tesseract scene kinda ruined the rest...Jumped the shark near the end. Dunkirk, good film but zero emotions, technically solid though.

Currently, the best working directors are as follows:
1 - Villeneuve
2 - Inarritu
3 - Nolan

...

>empty and meaningless
surely you're referencing Enemy?

dude hipster-spielberg lmao

>surely you're referencing Enemy?
Enemy wasn't empty. Not Villeneuve's best film but still solid overall...Very Lynchian though.

It's hard to pin point Villeneuve's style...He's like a chameleon... He does scifi, Lynch, war/drama , cartel shit...

A bloo bloo

This list is good. Villenueve does nothing but mediocre pseud-bait, but the bottom of the list should be Villenueve>>Nolan>>Inarritu

Nolan and V both make empty films, that have the appearance of being more than a superficial blockbuster, but V at least doesn't let absurd dialogue and action sequences slip in. So he's a bit better than Nolan. Fincher and Aronofsky actually managed to pull off 1-2 good films, so I agree with your list otherwise.

There Will Be Blood, The Master and Boogie Nights are better than anything Villeneuve has ever made.

>There Will Be Blood, The Master and Boogie Nights are better than anything Villeneuve has ever made.
PTA has to be the most overrated hypster hack in hollywood...

It's not a ranking
it's the progression 99% of the plebs have gone through

...

Villeneuve even more so.

Doesn't really make sense when Mendes' best known movie came out in 99
