So what's the final verdict on this?

I just came across this about a week ago, and I gotta say i' a bit impressed.

m.youtube.com/watch?v=KNs9shgQ2rI

I've seen it here being talked about, but it never looked interesting enough for me to get into.

had potential, but got wasted by youtube's change in advertsing revenue and cutting corners

>youtube's change in advertsing revenue
As someone who doesn't watch YouTube, what happened? Why is it difficult for animators there?

They changed their algorithm so animation is almost unprofitable and garbage like the hot knife vids skyrocket

It has the potential to be great but they need to cut the stupid shit and get to the point. They aren't funny and when they try to be it's just sad.

A bunch of stuff went wrong with the kickstarter (Like how the backers who were suppost to get the episodes early only had it for a week and then it got taken away)
And for the backers who didnt pay to see the new episodes early, you need to pay a subscription to cartoon hangover.

(Theres a bunch of other stuff like how the pilot and the show are very different but I'm in a hurry right now sorry)

Not enough weight gain

basically in order to change the way ad revenue works, they it used to be based on how many people have watched your videos, but this didn't work well as even if you accidentally clicked a shit video for just a second, they would get the revenue, not to mention countless spambots for shitty channels, so they instead changed it so you get a higher amount of revenue based on how long people watch your videos for, which is great if you pump out 5 lets plays a day.... but as it turns out, animation takes quite a while to do, and as a result the funding for all channels that take time to produce videos, such as almost all animators, have had their revenue slashed.

>you will never be Bee's Pretty Patrick

>Started out pretty decent
>Turned into trash trying way to hard to be random

I think it depends on how long people spend on your *channel*, with the ideal amount of time being 10 minutes.

Hence the high number of videos that seem to be almost exactly 5-10 minutes in length and all the padding you see at the beginning and end that encourage you to watch the other videos on the channel.

(OP)
Nice art, nearly nonexistent story.
Throughout the entire experience it feels like this project was something disjointed and hastily assembled. Where a set of ideas and visual cues was set up, then the project was left alone for 3 months, and the next episode started from an entirely different set of ideas and no clue of what it was going to go long-term.
But perhaps I'm biased to only like stories where the audience is rewarded for paying attention to the background canon.

In other words the project feels like a stepping stone the artist can use to convince future employers that they are competent, basically a portfolio piece, which we all knew it was going to be from the start, let's not kid ourselves.

That's what frederator is, anyway. A place for people to show off shit when they have have to enter the market so they can show shit off, or a place where you can put short passion projects that studio execs will never greenlight.

no, they literally changed it to how long you watch someones videos for, that wau if you watch a video for a few seconds, realise it's shit, and leave, they don;t get much revenue, and spambots cant rack up views as easily. So people get more revenue for more full videos watched, and as animators can only produce so many new videos, this makes it harder.

It stinks.

>was originally a loser in desperate need for cash
>now just some man baby

Can someone please elaborate?

Aw man I watched episode 1 last week and I was about to binge watch the series, but it really turns to shit?

Episode 1 is where it turns to shit. Like it's shit compared to the original pilot right off the bat and slowly gets better. It's not quite back up to where the pilot was, but at least it's starting to get INTERESTING now.

Wish there was more porn of that thicc girl.

Also from what I've heard the endings not very good.

...

Did those last episodes ever get put out? Is the series over or what?

Nonono, they fucked up BEFORE this happened. Youtube only changed wheere they would release the next episodes.

Use Patreon like everyone else

I never got over her redesign.

Plus the release schedule was what, an episode every other year? I just can't get back into it.

They kickstarted $800k fucking dollars, it would be a bigger slap in our face.

I was really disappointed about that. I saved the emails with the episode links and intended to watch the whole thing in one go once they were all finished since it was taking so long for them to come out. Like one of the big reasons I supported the kickstarter was because I wanted to support the idea of free legal online animation, so seeing it end up requiring a subscription fee is bullshit.

The last episode 'THE END' is out on VRV but you need to pay to watch it

>"i desperately want to be steven universe: the show"
is what i get from this.

Ending is a disaster. It's a 4-parter. Part one is for some reason backstory on Deckard's sister (who cares?), part two is a whole bunch of lore about the little landlord boy (who was a gag character but now abruptly is being used for unearned "feels"), part three is pure shipping between between Bee/Deckard, and part four is a shitty action sequence followed by a bunch of cliffhangers which will likely be unresolved.

It's weird, I see art like this and I think the new designs aren't that bad. Then I see the actual screencaps:
And it's like the animators shit the bed while making it. What's the point of these western simple designs if Korean animators are still gonna butcher it?

...

See . The design change pissed off a lot of people, to start.

>m.
Dumb phoneposter.
That said, the only attention it got on Sup Forums in the last year or so is shitposting based on that comparison picture where the artstyle went to shit and the main girl is now fat.

I liked it, and the finale left a great impression, and qould recommend it to anyone who migh've gave the show a chance even once. Will probably catch up on the comics when I can.

Don't forget that big plot point set up in the pilot that a lot of backers wanted to see built on and resolved that was ignored for the whole show and then barely touched on for 2 seconds in the last couple of minutes as a huge tease.

Bee is a robot or something?

And this.

Yes?

These character designs never fail to make me laugh, it has "20 year old fat weeaboo girl" spilled all over them

Becuase the pilot was a kickstarter. Its infuriating but backers can do nothing as funding rules are not strict.

You didnt need the filename

>Guys! We got the money! Let's make all the characters more rounded and baby like! That's what the backers wanted, right?

If only. Remember when Natasha responded to the hate for the newer designs by pretty much saying "Nono, I like it much better this way. You guys are just wrong for not liking it, this design is much better, really."

>I really hate water
>You're so heavy, it's like your bones are made of metal!
>Haha...are you stronger than me?

But she went to the beach

Those last two being about a minute before the reveal really didn't work as good buildup.

Chubby Bee is cuter

FAT LEGS

All of them are hideous except for the girl on the right.

You mean kid bee. She regressed 11 years from the pilot.

Both mentally and physically. Pilot Bee was an awkward womanchild and series Bee is just straight-up retarded.

I'm gonna have to side with her. Not only did it end up looking much more stylistic in the end, and I am aware of how off it comes off in the animation at times, but you people gave your money to her for her to make the cartoon she wanted.
Honestly, it seems like it's not a matter that she, or Bee, or the show in large changed too much from the pilot but that you expected something different than what you thought she had in mind.

Yeah we expected you know, the material that made the show get funded in first place.
> looking much more stylistic in the end
guffaw

Did you watch the pilot episode? Don't forget to do that, ep 1 isn't actually the beginning.

It feels very 2011-esque downright to the art style and the music

It's not that bad it's just the world has moved on since then.

Yeah well it's not my fault they managed to fill up 3/4 of their time with absolute bullshit.

????
What is happening?

She only appears for one short scene in the last episode and now we'll never see more of her.

Bee is a robot
