around the time I got out of college and had to work for a living. having actual responsibilities changes a person

Jokes on you! I was never with it to begin with!

In 1999. I still don't get what kids see in social media.

tfw I was sixteen in 1999

Yes. About 10 years ago.

The worst part is that now no one even knows what the "it" I was with even existed. No remembers Ska. No wonder Aaron Barrett always sounds so depressed on Reel Big Fish albums now.

For cartoons specifically?
I want to say no, I live steven universe and my little pony.
But then such rampant cancerous shit like.ttg and uncle grandpa exist so... idk

I feel like I don't even understand Internet shit anymore.

Like, when I was younger, edgy Internet humor was simply edgy. Now it's like the edginess has a strain of half-baked nihilism or depression themes running through it, which I don't think I get the context for.

youtu.be/4GybLYY-QUk

I'm not just with it, I AM it.

The fuck is the it?

Also, I took vaporwave to be a music subgenre. I truly can't grasp what the Facebook and YouTube memesters see it as.

>No remembers Ska
I literally heard some ska on the radio today

Hey, fellow oldfag, how does it feel seeing Marilyn Manson looking like this, and Billy Corgan going mad?

Not only has it happened to me it's happened to me multiple times. Every few years the kids go through some new thing that seems even more retarded than the last. I remember thinking scene kids were about as fucking stupid as you could get.

yep

I remember watching an Adam Curtis documentary where a Russian woman, just as the Soviet Union was on its last legs, was talking how she has no hopes for the future and no dreams. That's what I hear from a lot of young people as well, but they try to cover it up with snark.

>"Haha, hopes for the future? Yeah right! please help me"

I never got in on 90s/00s ska. I think the deepest I ever went was when I came across those early Boingo albums that had those strong ska influences.

Anyway, to answer OP's question this happened to me in the 90s. I didn't get the fuss over Rugrats. I wasn't even a teenager yet. By the time I did reach my teens I might as well have been completely alienated from my peer group when it came to taste. Now at 30 I've come to accept that I was never hip and I was never gonna be hip. Lame-o for life.

>Now it's like the edginess has a strain of half-baked nihilism or depression themes running through.

Pretty much this for me. I use to feel a sense of comradery with Sup Forums (and especially Sup Forumsmrades), but now there's so much bitter cynicism and nihilism all over the place. It's at the point where people can't even share suggestions without being accused of "shilling" a product. Everyone is so paranoid about being "tricked" into caring about something. It's a real No Fun Allowed kinda feeling.

I also don't get why we're so obsessed with social media dick measuring contests with Reddit and Tumblr, but that's more or less always been a thing around here.

However, I guess I still don't feel too out of touch when it comes to appreciating modern cartoons. It's weird seeing people get nostalgic for shows like Adventure Time and Regular Show, I haven't lost sight of what makes modern popular shows appealing.

I am largely ambivalent towards Manson, seeing as I thought he was a ponce at the time. He really does look like shit in this photo, though. I mean, goddamn. Maybe it's time to put away the clown makeup.

I don't see how anyone could get nostalgic for Adventure Time, considering that it's still going on and new episodes are starting up again next week.

7 years.

This bit.
youtu.be/-fny99f8amM?t=1177

social media was a mistake that gave a voice to people who's voice isn't worth all that much

People associate their childhood with Adventure Time in the sense that they grew up with it.

For example, someone could have been as young as 11 when the first episode aired, but now be 18.

Politically, yeah. Being a lefty during the Bush years meant being against moral busybodies, believing in "live and let live". Judging people based on the content of their character rather than the color of their skin.

Now when I express these sentiments I get accused of being a part of the "alt-right".

Everyone deserves to be heard, user. But not everyone deserves to be listened to.

That distinction is something that social media hasn't quite figured out yet and that's its greatest flaw.

Sup Forums has always been nihilistic and hateful. It's been our shield against the normal. The first post I ever made on this site a dude promptly responded calling me a faggot. I don't even remember what my post was. I remember taking time to make a fairly reasoned intelligent response to another poster and a dude just called me a faggot for no reason. It bothered me back then because I didn't understand it. The site had to have something to chase off all the riffraff until we were only left with the freaks. The creme de la creme. Sup Forums was only ever an exception and that was years ago. Before Ponies, maybe even further back. Before Avatar. It's hard to remember it as clearly. Time kind of blends together. I do remember what made Sup Forums great though. We were the only board allowed to like things. We were the only board allowed to be friendly and helpful. Sup Forums used to be a meadow in the middle of a hateful forest where no normie dared to tread. Protected by the trees of screeching autists. Then the internet got smaller and Sup Forums became more noticeable. Maybe we fucked up a little too much too. Eventually the normies came and Sup Forums had to learn how to hate too.

yeah, around the time that memes and internet stuff became regular pop culture.

To be fair, shills are a real possibility now.

This is about Reddit, but a site as popular as Sup Forums doubtlessly also has paid shills moving around. It blew my mind when I found out that it wasn't just a Sup Forums meme but a real group called the JIDF exists.

It makes it so you can barely trust anyone. Even people you know can be tricked into being ads these days. It's disgusting.

Rbf are playing with anti flag in san diego next week

>Social media was a mistake

See, I still think social media is pretty great. It helps people meet others and form awesome relationships that would otherwise be impossible. Hell, finding early Sup Forums was pretty great for me, since it connected me with a bunch of weirdos I identified with, making me feel less isolated.

People just need to manage themselves and others better when it comes to social media.

web.archive.org/web/20160613151458/https://thetechnologicbrain.wordpress.com/2016/06/10/is-reddit-dead-welcome-to-the-propaganda-machine/

Forgot to actually post the link.

Unfortunately.

50 centers and CTR are a real thing too. That's the new nature of the internet and Sup Forums is perfect for it. Anonymity allows people to shuffle right in and pretend they've been here the entire time. Sup Forums has a lot of users and is a great breeding ground for memetic warfare. You'd be stupid not to shill on Sup Forums.

When I was a teenager at the latest. I'm 35 now.

The problem is that social media platforms are managed.

Maybe all the BBS systems run by one person as a hobby and exclusive systems like Usenet really had something going for them.

Even Wikipedia isn't safe from meddling now.

I bet Sir. Tim Berners-Lee is so disappointed that it ended this way; I'd be surprised of he wasn't.

Also, old web memories. This is only from 2007 and it already looks like a lifetime ago compared to modern website design.

I was into punk and definitely would have been called a "weirdo" growing up. The two main groups I have seen that made me realize I am out of touch there are subcultures that I understand fucking nothing about are

1. Bronies

2. Trump diehards

No. I've haven't ever been it to begin with.

Also shit like this.

You gotta remember just how many years have passed since you set up a mental equilibrium/age of reason.

Star Wars Revenge of the Sith was over a decade ago.

The original Bionicle Toa are now old enough to get their drivers listences.

There are kids in high school right now that are younger than 9/11.

Optimus Prime, Megatron, Bumblebee etc. are over 30 years old.

Current World of Warcraft is now as far from Cataclysm as Cataclysm was from the Original Vanilla game.

Will Ferrell started his SNL tenure over twenty (20) years ago.

And etceteria.

Oh look, Sup Forums is here

It's weird that we pretty much live in the cyberpunk dystopia we all feared in the 90's. It's just different from how we initially imagined it. Instead of megacities and flying cars it's picket fences and minivans.

I mentioned Mighty Morphin Power Rangers in some comic talk.

Some little shit listening in asks if I'm talking about the "old time" ones.

Paid trolls exist friendo. Sorry to burst your bubble. It isn't news. It's just the nature of the internet as it exists today. You should read up on it, it's pretty interesting. They don't always advocate for the thing they support directly. Sometimes they have a guy come in a thread and bash it so that 2 or more of his friends can refute him to generate positive momentum for their side. It's kind of like inception. If you want an idea to take hold you have to convince people that they came up with it themselves.

>Blaming Sup Forums's decline on "normies"

I'd say it's closer to the opposite. I feel that modern Sup Forums posters would look at the sorta posters from 2006-2011 and still accuse them of being Tumblerinas and normies. Chastising people for not being adequately dysfunctional was a mistake that allowed "shitposting" and "trolling" to become synonymous.

>Sup Forums was always nihilistic and hateful

God, I dunno. That's true to an extent, but it felt more ironic back then. Calling someone a "faggot" was basically just standard community hazing. But you never saw people spouting off about "degeneracy".

Aside from furries. Sup Forums was aggressively hateful towards furries. But as that specific hatred has softened, if seems we're hating everyone else more.

>To be fair, shills do exist.

Sure, but treating literally everyone as a shill ruins communities and stifles conversation. The alternative of giving people the benefit of the doubt initially is so much fucking better.

Sup Forums is literally the best news aggregator on the web. Their thirst for a happening means there's threads there before the mainstream even begin to hear of it, let alone announce it.

I'd say it's worse. Remember how those dystopias didn't have trackers disguised as phones, profiling systems disguised as computers, face recognition disguised as friends lists...Nothing can be trusted. Even our processors have built in backdoors that don't even need memory to access the computer as long as there's a plugged-in LAN cable.

There's a reason Sup Forums used to tell people to fuck off if someone said to get a new processor. It's literally the reason that the Thinkpad meme started.

This, exactly, for me. During the Dubya years and before, I was as liberal as you could get. Went to Fahrenheit 9/11 opening night. Laughed at all the right left wing jokes, even though I lived in the country.

About a decade ago, I moved to THE BIG CITY. I see minorities I used to think were just being held back by the system "wilding" in the streets, hanging out on the corners when they could be working, shouting "white bitch" at my wife when she goes out for a job, stealing my property and breaking into my car. I look at people who have had every chance to do better in life and especially in school (I was an educator for most of my life) preferring to bitch and moan about whitey and being enabled.

I forget the exact quote, but to paraphrase: "A hundred years ago, my views would have made me a revolutionary. Ten years ago, I'd have been radical leftist. Today, I'm apparently a racist."

Somehow it happened and then semi-reversed itself. But my standards are kind of low because my "it" was anime and DDR and weird video games, and while those aren't in anymore, I can find places to indulge half of it, and the other half is coming back.

Manufacturing Consent covers this, so does Century of the Self.

>It blew my mind when I found out that it wasn't just a Sup Forums meme but a real group called the JIDF exists.

>50 centers and CTR are a real thing too.

Can someone post proof of any of this?

No a teenage girls twitter screencap, not an infograph or an MS Paint comic but cold hard objective PROOF that there are groups of people on the payroll of pro-Jewish organizations or the Democratic National Committee for the purposes of posting anonymously on Sup Forums to influence the users to be pro-Jewish or pro-Democrat.

That sounds like a very specific and outlandish claim so I'm assuming there is proof.

Thomas Sowell and the quote is

>If you have always believed that everyone should play by the same rules and be judged by the same standards, that would have gotten you labeled a radical 60 years ago, a liberal 30 years ago and a racist today.

You're just someone who is ridiculously inexperienced. You're going to end up in a situation in 30 years where you meet a bunch of really nice minorities and they're going to explain how the shit that you thought was irresponsible behavior was actually a defense mechanism against ridiculously oppressive shit and you're going to have another epiphany, like those people who were anti-MLK but wax poetic about lunch counter sit-ins and peaceful marches today.

The "White People Don't Know Shit" cycle will continue until the day we're all refugees scattered around the globe, telling our great-grandchildren of the hulking cityscapes, expansive wilderness, and endless highways of our youths.

>Today, I'm apparently a racist.
Quit yer whining.

>they're browsing Sup Forums past the age of 25

You fucking failures need to go to a staffing agency for day jobs instead of shitting up the board with your virgin pity party bullshit

>BLOO BLOO WHY DOES NOBODY RESPECT THE 80S ANYMORE
>HNNNNG RAVEN HNNNNG LORD DOMINATOR IF ONLY A GREEN DYKE WITH NIGGER BUTTCHEEKS EXISTED IN REAL LIFE, SHE WOULD LOVE ME AND ONLY ME
>I'M TOTALLY INTO FART FETISH GUYS, EVEN THOUGH I GAG WHEN I BREATH IN CAR EXHAUST

I swear to God I would rather have autistic teenagers be the majority userbase than any of you creepy motherfuckers

Hang yourselves please

It's just wiki but whatever im lazy

>en.wikipedia.org/wiki/50_Cent_Party
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Correct_the_Record

There is documented and verified evidence that both groups exist. Like I said it seems outlandish but the reality of today's world means it's stupid not to. We know Russia did it too in favor of Trump. The internet is just another battlefield in today's world.

Not yet.

That's "Uncle" Thomas Sowell.

They're the first results on google for each of them.

Those "really nice minorities" will be white people looking at current demographics.

Nigger what part of

>You're
>Here
and
>Forever

do you not understand? Seriously point out the one you don't fucking get I'll educate your retarded ass. Or better yet just hang around and see it in action cause your stupid ass ain't going nowhere. I'll bet you're even a big enough fag to still have hopes and dreams.

I asked for cold hard objective PROOF that there are groups of people on the payroll of pro-Jewish organizations or the Democratic National Committee for the purposes of posting anonymously on Sup Forums to influence the users to be pro-Jewish or pro-Democrat.

1999 was only like 8 years ago

And I gave you a wiki with sources. Hop hop. I don't really give a fuck if you believe it or not. You're really about the only person disbelieving it at this point. It's not like any of these groups are trying to hide it.

Yes. Three years ago I was an atheist socialist feminist who supported gun control. Then, slowly, but surely, I got redpilled on many things by Sargon and the skeptic community and later moved on to Sup Forums. Yes the Jews are running everything, yes, the world would be better off if it was run by white people, but that's just not going to work. So here I am, too smart for the the far left, too brown for the far right. I'm done with this shit. My new life goal is to get enough money to buy some off-grid land in Arizona or Maine and then build a compound that I can hide out in when the race war/whatever comes.

I'm... I'm so sorry to tell you. You've been in a coma for ten years user.

found the kissless virgin

>prove who an anonymous user is.

"On the internet, no one knows you're a dog."

Or an NSA agent.

There's actually a reason for that. (BTW the quote, stated in, 1998, was 50 and 25 years, respectively; so)
In 1948, white supremacism was the law of the land and "equality" was a heresy that would have upset the system; anyone supporting it WAS a radical

In 1973, many institutional barriers had been broken down, but it was not yet understood that past inequality had merely been abolished, not reversed. Still, it was more accepted and someone pushing for it would have been merely a liberal.

In 1998, it had become clear that simply removing the largest institutional barriers had not made up for the wealth disparities and resultant social segregation that institutional segregation had brought about. Clearly, equality had not been reached by any measure, and anyone denying so would have been doing so in support of the racist status quo.

The man made a very salient observation. And yet, each label was justified in its time.

So the answer is you have no proof at all and you're completely full of shit.

says the enraged manlet posting on Sup Forums in the first place

>Those "really nice minorities" will be white people looking at current demographics.
I kinda hope so but they'll take the country down before letting it happen. Expect a minor genocidal effort. I've got my passport ready.

>too brown for the far right

If Shaun King is Black I'm sure you'll be OK.

No the answer is read it for your fucking self nigger.

>Their thirst for a happening means there's threads there before the mainstream even begin to hear of it, let alone announce it.

That's not necessarily a good thing. I means that there's lots of noise on Sup Forums, information that isn't necessarily accurate or meaningful. Sure, you might end up getting some hot scoop before it hits the mainstream outlets. But you'll also have to wade through a lake of pizzagates.

No. Probably because I don't think being a stagnant, self-righteous cynic is equal to adulthood.

Yes, with Star Wars

faggot

>ff7 is 20 years old

Fuck.

>there are people on this site who's first console was an xbox 360.

Meh, there are some stupid people on both sides of the fence. I think if the race-war happened tomorrow there would be many right-wingers that would shoot me on sight, despite the fact that I hate Islam, China, BLM, the DNC, socialism, gun control, leftists apologists for Islam, multiculturalism, the EU, Merkel, social Marxism, any sexual minority that isn't a part of LGBTA (and when I say 'T', I mean people like Blaire White), and uncontrolled immigration from Latin America just because I'm brown.

>Avatar TLA ended 9 years ago
>And I watched it on Sup Forums
>And I was already on various chans for years before that

JonTron left Game Grumps 3.5 years ago.

>unwashed hick faggot who seriously watches wrestling thinks anything he says matters

take your own advice fuckstain

If the DNC is really trying to astroturf Sup Forums they're doing a real shit job of it.

Give it 20 years, you'll be fine. You're probably going to see the slow integration of (non muslim) Indians, Latinos and Asians into whats generally understood as "White" (though the term may shift) over the next little while. In the same way you saw Catholics and Jews get shuffled in in the last 75 years, and the way the Germans and Scots got shuffled in before that. Basically any time "White" looks like it's not going to be a majority, they call up some rookies from the AAA White leagues.

>SEETHING

Just with cartoons.
My jump into comics have ruined almost all cartoons for me.

Four years and counting it's been happening

I was 18 the first time it happened to me.

I'm 32 now. It happens to me on an hourly basis.

Yup, it's happening now. It's not so bad.

youtube.com/watch?v=FxNvUWN3vYk

>I think if the race-war happened tomorrow there would be many right-wingers that would shoot me on sight
Anyone that shoots you on sight is doing so because you're not known to them and in a societal breakdown scenario like a race war, any unknown is a potential threat. I can't speak for all whites, but I'm pretty sure most of us don't wander around all day thinking, "man, if only the race war would start! Then I could kill any shitskin I see!"

The ones that do think that way are usually Australians shitposting on Sup Forums

Why do Australians shitpost so badly?

Poor breeding. They're all descended from debtors and convicts.

>scene kids
Damn, i now feel old remembering the emo and scene trends, and this shit wasn't even that long ago.

True. I know a lot of nice white people and I keep on trying to redpill my mom on all of the anti-white racism that's been going on lately, but she just won't listen. She still thinks that Micheal Brown was murdered in cold blood and that Donald Trump is racist. It's sad.
Well this doesn't sound too bad, but will this mean that whites will start mixing with other groups much more. I mean know people should have the right to choose who they love and I have vanilla fever so I shouldn't be talking, but I still do want white people to exist in the future and have demographic control of their homeland of Europe.

I dunno, I think it's been ten, fifteen years since I gave emos a single thought. I was still working retail when making fun of emos was sporting.

Emo Game was released in 2002, so yeah, emo was a while ago.

lol fag

>tfw no convict heritage

Stupid fuckin' economic migration.

Hmm, true, it's been a while.

Shit, most kids that were emo during the trend are probably adults with kids now.

Surprisingly, there are people on the left who like comics and aren't so thin-skinned that they can't take a few insults in the course of conversing about their interests.

How the hell did you get so fucked up.

True, the thin-skinned ones are all on Tumblr.
