CGI Actors

What do you think about cgi actors?
I just hope that with the advancement of technology, producers and / or directors will not think of using actors in cgi or "bringing back life" dead actors.

I NEED A MIRACLE, DECKARD!

they cant get the movements right , the more a character moves the more it looks like a video game. Since using a CGI actor is more trouble than a real one it will probably mostly be used to bring back the dead and create impossible characters like aliens etc.

It's clearly gonna be the future at some point. Every actor will be stored into a digital bank, with perfect CGI models and voice clips that can be put into any sequence. Eventually you'll even have AIs with "improvisation" algorithms in order to add a random element, that can be tweaked to different circumstances. Entire movies will be constructed from actors who died hundreds of years ago. Depending on the viability of each actor, licensing fees will vary from B listers, to S listers. Videogames will likely draw from the same pool of 3D models and Ais. There will obviously be ethicality issues, but people demanding to see Jack Nicholson' smile 500 years from now will overwrite what ethicality there is.

They all look dead inside

Agreed for the use of them in video games but even 40 years from now, CGI character will still look artificial and forced.
Because if it was possible to perfectly mimic human emotions with animation we would have had naturalistic cartoons decades ago.
So no I don't think we will have young Marlon Brando new kino in the next 50 years because it will look like shit compared to his original performances or any other performance by a shit tier Z-list actor for that matter. It just doesn't work if you don't haver an actor for facial motion capture (to this day, LA Noire is still the only game with somewhat believable facial animations), and if you use an actor for facial motion capture, you can't recreate a performance by another actor with it, because once again it will look out of place, inside the uncanny valley

Will definitely happens in future OP.

watch The Congress
But don't watch the trailers because they spoil it

What about CGI de-aging actors/actresses like this or RDJ in Iron Man 3 and Johnny Depp in Pirates 5?

I almost forgot how absolutely horrible that was

One of the few cases where the creepiness of CGI "resurrection" was in line with the plot

The friends I saw this with who hadnt seen the 1st one had no idea she was CG.
Much better use of the tech than Rogue One for sure.

Its getting better every year, can't wait till a company to sell their cgi actors or actress.

Isn' it better than Tarkin from Rogue One?

It was used less, so it had that going for it, but I wouldn't say better

I honestly didnt realize it was CG when watching. Thought they did some really nice make up job on the actress. Impressive stuff.

I knew Tarkin was cgi immediately. The lighting on his face looks off.

At first, I thought Rachael in 2049 was a Sean Young lookalike, the shadows and lighting are much better compare to Tarkin in Rogue One. The only flaw I can find is her stiff facial moment but never the less cgi actor/actress is getting better.

I eagerly await the time when we can use photo-realistic CGI to make hardcore pornographic movies staring Marylin Monroe and Audrey Hepburn.

Completely agree with you, but I'm thinking like 500 years in the future or some shit. It's clearly what Hollywood will want to do eventually, but will not have the tech to fathomably do until we're all long dead.

Why not, they'll get it right eventually.

Truth is they've been doing this for years anyway, newer actresses are often cast as an [older actress]-type.

Tarkin looked fine in all his medium shots in Rogue One, but the closeups looked like ass. Leia only had the closeup, so naturally she looked like ass too.

Rachel in BR2049 actually looked pretty decent, but she never talks or anything which I'm sure would have ruined it.

It's not a technological question, it's an artistic one, Rogue One was made by talentless hacks including the animation department while BR2049 animators were better at their job.
Even 500 years from now, shit animators will still be a thing, if they're not replaced with a cheap AI.

I think CGI actors fail at facial and body motion. Always seems videogame/cartoonlike. Too smooth or exaggerated. It's like the animation was recorded at a different framerate than the live characters around them. Always notice this shit in every movie, but still CGI scenery and machines do trick me.

>she never talks or anything
She did user

I agree but I'm still hopeful for better cgi people in the future.

I think you are right on the framerate thing, that actually explains why their moment seems off. Facial moment is the hardest one to pull off so far.
