This shit better be good the way you guys keep hyping it up

Is this movie good? Or just a meme movie ?
The trailer really didn't get me.

it's a fucking masterpiece. once this thing is out digitally this board will not be able to stop talking about it.

>implying Vince Vaughn isn't a shoe in for this years Sup Forums presents MEMEY award for best actor

>once this thing is out digitally this board will not be able to stop talking about it.

this is not a good thing desu

This film's really well done. It's practically devoid of cliches.

No, he won't, since the studio is not rich enough to pay for his oscar campaign. 10 Cloverfield Lane all over again

its the best movie of the year so far but the movie is way to small to get any attention at the oscars.

Best films of 2017

looking at this makes me realize 2017 has been the year of broken yet gritty male protagonists

whats the one in the middle and left called?

left: good time
middle: brawl in cell block 99

middle: punchy baldy baby protector: back in action

i dont believe you

torrent when

Looks like a normal Tyrion

Okay you bastard ...I'll give it a shot when it comes out on digital
If it sucks , don't come to this board anymore

...

In trumps American

>be 16
>hate Robert Pattinson because of Twilight movies
>fast forward to now
>RPattz is a literal fucking lad and /our guy/

My country won't release this in countryside cinemas because of THOR RAGNAROK

ebin life

does this shit really get hyped here? haven't seen a thread about it in a week, and the last thread died at like 10 posts.

it's really fucking good though, like a modern, more streamlined and action-y version of Scorcese's Mean Streets.

scorcese is executive producing their next movie, uncut gems. in a q&a, the safdie brothers said they didn't "deserve" to be able to make a movie like uncut gems (whatever that means) until they proved themselves with good time. they've been working on it for over 6 years. you just KNOW it's going to be a next-level masterpiece.

which country is that, lad?

Heaven Knows What was already very good, and this new project seems even better.

Jonah Hill will star in it though

When the fuck did he turn into Peter Dinklage?

I'm guessing it probably means a lot to them because their father used to work in the diamond district. It'll probably have a lot of autobiographical elements, all of their movies have a cinema-verité/pseudo-documentary style.

now that I think of it, Good Time also reminds me quite a bit of Cassavetes films, especially Killing of a Chinese Bookie, very similar visual style, and as already stated, the plot is pretty damn similar to Mean Streets. hell of a movie though, I'm gonna try to see it again in theatres though the nearest ones aren't showing it anymore. sitting up close, sound too loud but it's even better that way.

God damn why is it so fucking hard to find out where and when this is shown in my area?
Youd think that the studio would provide me with all the info I need if Im interested in seeing their movie, but no, it doesnt say what cinema it gets released in when anywhere...
Guess Ill wait for it to be available as a torrent.....

>Pepe LSD
Do the Safdies browse Sup Forums?

Uncut Gems is about An uncircumcised penis getting a job in the Jewish controlled American porn industry
I think I'll skip this one

They constantly cite gritty, early 2000s HBO documentaries as inspiration for their movies

Yep, they don't comment, but they do actually browse it.

probably. not even as a joke... like 80% chance they browse Sup Forums

America Undercover type stuff? late 90s but definitely has that underground gritty ny type of feel, especially shit like taxicab confessions

twitter.com/JOSH_BENNY/status/846905936912506880

that explains everything

>james ferraro replying
holy shit. on a side note his twitter is almost as fantastic as his music

oh shit confirmed. josh is probably hunched over a laptop reading this thread right now

Quite an exaggeration... the movie's better than most, but it's no masterpiece. Recommended no doubt, but there's no need set expectations so high

...

imma watch it just for the Oneotrix Point Never OST

not a fan of the lobster but dogtooth was great. guess I have to watch the new one now...

or is he just shilling a24?

prob

yeah in an interview he said he likes browsing 'the most vile parts of the internet' because he finds it interesting
i wouldn't say its a masterpiece but it's definitely above average. i think people are only seeing the tip of the iceberg when it comes to connie's motivations. there is a distinct lack of exposition in this movie that really sets it apart from the rest of the pack. the scene at the beginning where connie breaks his brother out and there's a retard in the hall is key. connie looks at his brother "is that what you think you are?"
yes sacred deer might be his best film. i'm surprised he keeps outdoing himself

>is this movie good

Think, everything Good about Running Scared in concept and timeliness, minus everything retarded about Running Scared, especially notions of 'style' or 'action', add everything that makes movies good, keep the budget low, but the production value high, get Good Time.

>yeah in an interview he said he likes browsing 'the most vile parts of the internet' because he finds it interesting
more likely cause he's a fucking internet addict like everyone else here

Connie is a manipulator, top to bottom, deep into the bone. He loved his brother, but not as much as he loved himself. Ultimately, everyone was expendable to him, everyone was a means of getting what he wanted, and his breaking his brother out was NEVER about compassion (despite that being the only reason he would give people who spoke to) but ALWAYS about getting something for himself (he needs a patsy).

The most important scene in the movie, is the credits. Seriously cried. When his brother is stoic in the classroom, and then after 4 or 5 questions, the teachers says "cross the room if you ever had to do something you didn't want to". And then he crosses. He probably makes his first own decision in his life that isn't racked with the fear that someone will try and control him, like his brother, has, all his life.

FUCK SUCH A MASTERPIECE JESUS

People always accuse others of what they themselves are guilty of.

This is wrapped up in the movie when he calls the dude with acid everything wrong about himself (that he demonstrated in the movie).

>tfw had a conversation with the co-producer of The Lobster this friday

Didn't you watch The Rover?

I literally caught it the last week it was in theaters, almost completely missed it

That caught me by surprise

What do you think was the purpose of including pepe the frog? ray and his peers didn't seem like the type to browse Sup Forums

No, but now I will.

>Connie is a manipulator, top to bottom, deep into the bone. He loved his brother, but not as much as he loved himself. he's definitely a manipulative narcissist but I got the feeling he cared deeply for his brother (possibly out of misplaced self-pride). there's a deleted scene from the movie used as the music video of the Iggy Pop credits song which shows a dream of Connie's in which he's living with Nick in the country. he definitely wanted the best for his brother, whatever the reason.

>The most important scene in the movie, is the credits. Seriously cried
yeah, was damn emotional. I love the way they start playing opening and ending credits over scenes. obviously they aren't the first to do it but it fits the rest of their visual style perfectly.

in the context of the movie it's just from some random comic book, since blotters usually have colourful cartoon art (and pepe is originally from a web cartoon). the choice of pepe itself is just a cheeky reference

the soundtrack alone makes this 7/10 movie into a 9/10

I can't imagine this is the case. they must have been making a statement about the communities that frequently use that image.

pretty sure pepe wasn't an alt-right symbol back when they were shooting the movie, it was just some popular internet meme

Ending made me cry too. Both times I saw it. >This is wrapped up in the movie when he calls the dude with acid everything wrong about himself (that he demonstrated in the movie).
This might've been my favorite scene for this reason. Either that or the shot in this pic I don't think it would be accurate to cast him off as 100% narcissistic. He definitely has some affection for his brother. Like I mentioned before the scene at the beginning where he asks him "is that what you think you are?" at the retard place is important. I think he's so attached to his brother he sees him as an extension of himself. You could call it narcissism but his plan to break his brother out of there and teach him to be his own man (look at how complimentary and proud he was of his brother after the robbery, he wasn't doing that just to put him at ease he was doing it because he felt convinced that his brother wasn't retarded and in turn there was nothing wrong with him, connie, mentally).

This character is honestly one of the fleshed out characters I've seen in a while and the 'depth' isn't pretentious. It's hard to pull something like that off but I think the Safdies did it with Connie. Sure projection, narcissism, pity, self-loathing are all applicable to Connie but there's some heart to him. I think the song title "Pure and the Damned" tells you everything you need to know about Connie and his Brother.

Side note, anyone kind of let down by their decision to work with Jonah Hill for their next movie? Even when Jonah tries he's not impressive. I really hope it delivers.

When's this coming out on DVD/digital/whatever means I can download it? I have a crush on non-Twilight Robert Pattinson

completely agree with everything you said.

don't know how I feel about Jonah either. I'm sure they'll get what they need out of him, that's what good directors do.

He got cucked by K-Stew and her director (who she will soon file sexual assault charges on if her next film bombs).

R-Pats is not /ourguy/

> tfw you realize that Connie's grandmother wasn't actually abusive and that these stories were really just a sociopathic way for him to manipulate and control his brother

I genuinely teared up during the end credits - it was nice to see Nick finally getting the help he needed to live a peaceful life

Safdie brothers have a pretty unique way of making films. Heaven knows what is pretty good, can't wait for this

legit crushed I couldn't see it in 35mm, I love seeing film prints so fucking much, digital's just not the same

Anybody seen Frownland?

Bronstein low-key seems like he's running things behind the scenes...

i dunno they post Sup Forums screencaps on twitter but do they browse Sup Forums?

it is a legit good movie. Rob totally makes the movie.

yeah frownland was good. one of scariest endings to a movie. made me get my shit together.

is that dog monster Connie from a past life? is that realisation what that makes him relinquish his fear?

>but it's a nice dream...
I crai everyteim

I really like your take on Connie. I didn't think about his character that way, but what you're saying makes a lot of sense.

Because Connie sees Nick as an extension of himself, he tries to view him in the best, most flattering light possible, even though Nick is clearly impaired (flawed) and in desperate need of help.

When Connie is presented with someone truly similar to him, Ray, he can't accept the fact that this guy is pretty much an equal to him since he sees Ray as a lowlife bum. This is partially why he's constantly getting frustrated with him. When Connie was criticizing Ray and calling him a waste, it was his way of coping with his reality and projecting it on to another person.

are there any cams/telecine's out there? I just want to see that flashback scene again, it was fucking insane

He would make a good GREAT TEACHER ONIZUKA.

t. someone who doesn't watch movies

What movie are you secretive dweebs referring to this time? Cryptic little shits.

Try reading the OP's subject line, you stupid blind cunt.

The Safdies posted a photo of Tyler the Creator sitting with Ronald Bronstein (Safdie brothers' longtime collaborator and co-screenwriter of Heaven Knows What, Good Time, and Uncut Gems) and some dude from Elara Pictures (Safdie brothers' production company).

Not trying to jump the gun here, but I don't know any other reason why these guys would meet up other than to discuss a possible collaboration. If Tyler stars in Uncut Gems or makes a movie through Elara Pictures, that would be dope as fuck.

Why'd you tell him? You just lost 12 internet cool points.

I think this movie wanted you to see the difference in "Show vs Tell" not just in how they made the movie, but in how people actually act in real life.

I agree, he has some love for his brother, but what you said I feel only emboldens my point, that he loves himself above all else.
>where he asks him "is that what you think you are?"

This is why I think he doesn't love him as much as you think he does. He's TELLING you and his brother what HE THINKS. Well, if he really cared about his brother, would he be treating him this way in the first place? Pulling him out of sessions to help him? And more importantly, the scene I mentioned earlier, where he TELLS the other character everything that's wrong with him, essentially describing himself.

Watch what he DOES, not what he SAYS. This is how you spot manipulative activity. Manipulative people say anything to get what they want. The reason the scene you're talking about comes BEFORE the scene I was talking about, is for this reason. The Safdies want you to believe Connie, because Connie wants you to believe him.

If it was you, and your brother, would you even mention something like that? Make that comparison? If you didn't think your brother was retarded, would you pull out a retard and compare them? Or would you just ignore it? If you wanted to get something out your brother, would you appeal to his emotions? Try to embolden him? Give him an excuse to not be in the place he probably should be?

Where do you live? Im hoping that what little release it gets here in Germany is later than in the US and that Im able to find it in time.
I really dont understand why there isnt a website that tracks these things by now. The data is all somewhere probably even accessible. Just not centralized.

>If you wanted to get something out your brother
i went full retard here

if you wanted to get something out of* your brother

Oh shit the movie comes out digitally on November 7th according to amazon. Just a little over two more weeks...

Anybody know where I can get a copy of this movie? Ebay sells them for $10~ but I was hoping to just pirate it...
