Unsounded

Sonorie doesn't seem as bad as Duane said. Guess you can't trust a piss mop's word

Man the handmaidens seem idealistic. Not a bad thing but its funny they're pissed at the gods for what happened, not sure I've seen that behavior from Gefendur before.

The dude knocks her down for it pretty quick though. This girl might just be a spitfire.

whats with all the niggers

She seems somewhat seated in reality when it comes to the town. But then again she still playing midwife to her dog while her country is losing a war.

FUck u General Bell's a narcissistic racist with Aldish piss-whores in his closet. Sonorie is compassionate towards animals and would never sell us out to Alderode.

Isn't Bell in contact with Aldishmen or something?

And just to be clear, the Dammakhert is fucking up everyone in alderode but the Soudes, right?

Yep to all.

Where was it implied he was in contact with Aldishmen? Because Bell->Silver monster->Bastion->Aldishmen?

No political figure is as bad or as good as anyone thinks they are.

What is this war even about anymore?!

I can't remember and don't care. Let's get back to Sette annoying Duane.

call me paranoid but i'm a bit sceptical of the queens redesign

Who the fuck even made the Dammakhert? Coppers and Jets? It sure fucks up everyone else. Wiki mentions that you can be cut off from the dammakhert as punishment, what does that do to people?

I just noticed the flower patterns on those dogs. That is some crazy ass luxury pymary that's been done to them. Are those two-toes lazing around in the background?

Sonorie seems more reasonable than I was expecting, but I guess we haven't had a very balanced view of her so far.

>Are those two-toes lazing around in the background?

They're on what appears to be the dog's bed. I'd assume they're stuffed toys.

Only, real-size, because look at the size of that fucking dog.

>They train their war animals to kill an oppressed race with dog toys
God damn, Ashley

Odds Ulaf is in league with the conspiracy?

Those are Kedis, pudgy iguanalike lizards that people keep as pets. I'm pretty sure they're the Unsounded equivalent of domestic cats.

This page is the one that lays out our first real understanding of what's been going on.

Obviously, since Bastion is the one relaying it, he's not the Aldishman. We don't know the full circumstances of why they're colluding, especially since Bell seems to be doing it because the Queen isn't attacking Alderode enough. But the upshot seems to be Bell and the unknown Ald both want a war and both want the Silver in Alderode. Given that its destination is fucking up some Ssaelit, it may be a Gefendur faction in Alderode is trying to make a power play or something. This would tie into the increasing tensions between those two religions we saw in Duane's flashback.

>it updated

OH FUUUUUUUUUUUUG

Gefendur and Ssaelit

All you need to know

The One God will deliver destruction to the heretics

Just about finished typing a long ass review of Unsounded. I should hope it gets the series a few more readers, but until now I've only written about manga so I wonder how much I could possibly help.

If anyone's interested in it I'll direct them to my writings; not one to outright post links here since it seems bad form. That, and I don't think I'll be posting it until 5pm EST today anyway.

As for the update, I actually did expect Sonorie to be younger or something from how soldiers were talking about her, but I guess I did expect her to be less...*extreme* than how Duane put it. Then again, it's only one page of her; who knows what?

Easy to paint an incorrect picture of someone you hate. Though who's to say she isn't a crazy, vengeful bitch once she seems you guilty

I mean, what would Duane know about the Queen, anyway? At the level he was at and with his perspective, the Queen is just an avatar for all his hatred of Cresce.

That is a dude in a wig

gotta be quicker.

Sure, please do post

I think we are in a Star Trek VI situation with subversives in both governments working together using the silver weapon to inflict coups.

Duane is nationalistic and a religious zealot. His opinion isn't trustworthy on a lot of things.

Please post.

>Well, there’s a pretty left-field twist coming that long time Q&A readers may remember, but that may surprise you if you’ve never heard me talk about it. And I think it will reveal a big reason for a lot of present ill feelings towards the Queen. Wait a few pages for it.

I believe Bastion is a copper, does that not make him an Aldishman?

What I meant was he's not the specidic Aldishman colluding with Bell being discussed here. He's just a contractor hire by them to takeout Duane and now help the Silver reach Alderode.

Ah ofcourse my bad.

Just a quick correction, Bastion is a Jet. They have long lives but not as long as Coppers, who have red hair, red eyes, and tan skin.

I don't think it's a redesign, she's just old

There are so many things it could be!
>Her traitor Aldish husband
>Her indulgence in the Crescian hallucinogenic religious drug
>Her wall of Aldish traitors' heads
>A dead twin on the table to eat
>Some Gefendur heretics being tortured to death

After reading Vienne's side story I have concluded that I'm not sure between husband Quigley and wife Quigley who was the worse parent.

They were both terrible parents. But they did/do love the little brat, for whatever that's worth.

Wizard moms are pretty rad though.

Quigley is trash.

god damn it their family could've been so cute

They can still be cute. In the grave!

Can't argue with that.

>All this shit that's not Sette and Duane

But these are the best parts.

Alrighty, here ya go

I'll quote the OP too cause why not muh Unsounded review: terrenceswiff.wordpress.com/2017/01/23/unsounded/

she was actually born as a prince.

To be honest, I think a Queen who is loyal to her subjects (even when they did do her wrong) absolves her of all other sins.

There have been many murderers and tyrants throughout history, and thus far the Queen seems like a benevolent one.

Which is why all Monarchs should be killed, of course, but as a Monarch, she's fine.

The place has managed to replicate some of the worst aspects of socialism in a per-industrial setting so I'm not fond of someone sitting at the top of that.

It's just feudalism then.

Some people in feudalism were technically property but in practice their lords often couldn't get away with even increasing rents. Cresce forces an entire city to hoof it because the place isn't cost-effective. "It's for the best."

Serfs could also own money.

I enjoyed this a lot, and I definitely agree with your criticisms. I've tried to tone down both Duane and Sette's dialogue over the years, and tried to make clearer layouts. But updating too slowly? Man, I work on this 80 hours a week and still barely finish 3 pages. I can't go any faster!

I appreciate you taking the time to write all that up!

Yeah, I know, that comment's more for potential readers. A friend of mine complained about it and I was like, dude, it can't go any faster. But, it's probably something to keep in mind.

I've actually noticed that from the start to latest you've gotten less flowery. Anyway, very happy you liked it. That one took me longer than usual, not just since I wrote so much. Thanks for reading/making a superb comic.

The guy said he usually reviews manga, so it's probably meant as a "updates slowly" compared to the 20 pages a week expected of mangakas in general, to let potential readers more familiar with that pace aware of the differences beforehand.

What drug? The smoking thing thats a mild sedative if I remember correctly?

Your updating is so consistent it's a joy to be able to get 3 pages a week and it's very much something I'm looking forward to every week. It's easy to forget that sometimes. Keep up the lovely work Ashley!

Oh man, that's pretty intense. Do you do any freelance in addition to that or are you 100% Unsounded?

>80 hours a week

It's all Unsounded these days thanks to Patreon. That is VERY helpful.

You are like little baby
Watch this

Awwww shit, I didn't realize the hiatus was over. I really hope this chapter gets back to doing the fun adventures, and a little less political intrigue.

Huh, I never noticed the "Sette suppressing memories" on that specific page, thanks for letting me know user.

It's very subtle and very early on. I missed it myself until someone else pointed it out around the time later flashbacks were happening.

Serfs actually could not own money. They had to pay most of their income to their lords and as a result had to pay taxes in kind.

I might be in time for a reread of the comic

I read/have read a shit load of webcomics over the years, and got introduced to Unsounded last year, and holy shit I was useless until I caught up. I have to agree with other than the updates. 3 full color comics a week? I feel blessed. Unsounded is seriously my favorite current running webcomic (Dr. Mcninja just finished, and 8-bit theater has been finished for ages.) I read and love many others, but Unsounded is the only one I gush to everyone that hasn't heard of it.

I noticed it myself on a later page when I was rereading part of the comic, and I sat there for a bit feeling sorry for Sette. That has definitely changed my opinion on her dad.

I think what really gets me is that she sleeps in the kennels with the dogs. And they don't comment on it! That's fucked up.

I can now identify newfags in these threads.

>didn't rep for my boy Jivi
You're dead to me. Fukken dead.

I didn't want to outright spoil that he's a protagonist... Then again, he's featured in two of the images in the article. Anyway, he's a sneaky sort of character in that it's not necessarily obvious that he'll be in any way important, not unless you realize his jarring memory at the start of one of the chapters means he's definitely going to play a larger role in time.

That and I feel like it's best to see for yourself what kind of character he is. He's like a wannabe hero, but also a bit of a coward (can you call fear for your own life cowardice?)

Anyway, that's my reasoning.

To me Jivi is the biggest damn hero in the thing because of what he overcomes every time he takes a step to do good. And he always steps towards it! It's amazing! I don't see him as a wannabe - I haven't since "That ain't the way it should be!" which is about as base and pure a statement of conviction as we've had in the comic. But you're right about seeing it for yourself.

And I'm kidding anyway. I like your review and I'm glad you shared it. I like your site too, it's interestingly... varied? In how you've set up your reviews and what you review. I like that while you have clear tastes you don't seem to fret much about boundaries, other than making them known to a potential reader.

He's kind of an everyman. A straightman. The group needs someone NORMAL to contrast with the tailslut and the corpse and the two white-haired magic freaks with their giant turtle mech. He also gets to represent Cresce. So he's important in a balance sense, but not the most intriguing of characters overall. His mother sounds like LOADS of fun though. Ashley said she cuts the dicks off men who irritate her and pickles them in jars of moonshine. FUN.

You have to see Jivi's background and experiences that we see in the comic and think that even with THAT background and THOSE experiences he still does what he does. He is an everyman: he's just a kid, and so many of the other characters we see are incredible, highly capable, unusual, elevated or debased. But y'know, he still does it. He knows it's the right thing to do and he knows he has to do it.

That's why he's my fave, I guess. It's weird too because it's not normally the kind of character I latch onto.

I guess his spaghetti spilling when he met Toma is more fresh in my mind that his bold declaration toward Starfish. That said, I loved how quickly he acted at the end of the last chapter. That was really nice.

And thanks, happy to hear that. As for my site itself, thanks a lot; I've tooled it in a way that I hope will get people interested in all sorts of strange comics, and the overall format of the thing has changed quite a bit in the year since I started with it. I really fuggin' love manga/comics, so I've read many kinds of them, and want to share my enthusiasm.

that's icky

The other "Big Damned Hero" in the comic is Toma but he's pathological, he straight up wants to die which makes him being fearless and everything less impressive.

Even Duane is a Big Damned Hero in his way. I don't know about less impressive but yeah, Toma is different and you probably also want to consider where his fatalism comes from and how he has an environment and people he can succeed in/with, but also an environment and people he can't really deal with.

What about Elan?

He only wanted to die in the last chapter, for fair reason given he accurately determined that his and his country's situation was FUBAR, but otherwise he's fantastic.

Pic related, my favorite moment from him/possibly my favorite page in the comic. Really makes you realize Anadyne, who seemed to be the most sympathetic "antagonist" yet, is pretty fucked up for using the citizens for her and her kin's own gain. Toma's reluctance to actually harm said citizens was also very nice, and god I love his line here.

Well Elan goes out a hero, right? Elan's interactions with Toma and Elka tell you a lot about all three characters.

>Toma's reluctance to actually harm said citizens was also very nice
Yes, he only disarmed them ;^)

...

I mean, what is the Crescian system but a bunch of marks to an honest Sharte?

Oh thank goodness. I thought you died.

Ashley let's get down to brass tacks on what everyone really wants to know, When are you going to make "What's with all the niggers?" guy canon?

>WHAT'S WITH ALL THE CRESCIANS?

I haven't seen him since hiatus ended. Do you think he's okay?

...

not first post, no punctuation, I think that guy might just be a fraud.
