Evolution of quality

Its amazing how long VHS lasted, and what a major upgrade dvd was over it. Now we get new formats every 8 years

4K isn't a media format + who is not to say that will just be 4K Blu Rays?

>implying laserdisc wasn't almost as good as DVD, and in some cases, still objectively better than digital media formats that rely on compression
The reality is that audiences don't give a shit about video quality. DVD sales are still better than BR.

can 4ks be played on blu ray players?

I switched everything to digital a few years back, ripped it all. Never went back.

After rebuying music in various formats, I got tired of this scam.

Most people avoid 4K tvs just like they avoided 3D tvs. Forget 4K most cable, and dish providers don't even broadcast in 1080p unless it's payper-view movies you have to pay extra for. Owning a 4K tv when the everything is aired in 1080i is pointless.

And cable companies will fight tooth and nail to not upgrade their infrastructure so you could get 4k. At the very best, it'll technically be 4k, but the bitrate will be so bad, it'll look like garbage, even compared to a 1080p blu-ray.

I just bought a VHS because there's a scene that was removed from all subsequent DVD and Blu ray releases.

There were VHS tapes produced which could carry HD content. The quality is pretty good actually.

still have this bad boy, one of the best VCRs from the 90s. The panel flips down to reveal controls

I love shit like this. Thanks user.

>DVD 1998?

Wtf? I just upgraded from VHS to DVD player 4 years ago. I didn’t know it was around that long. What is blury? And 4k?

I hoard VHS tapes like an animal because they're so cheap. So much forgotten garbage floating around on video tapes out there.

also hd laser disc was out in the very early 90's

first upgrade in terms of quality actually came with 4k bluray and 4k televisions.

There was even HDVHS

the old (70s 80s) VHSs are superior build quality. Heavy weighty and the boxes are high grade laminate or cardboard.

This man is doing god's work. Love his videos. He reminds me of "real ale bores". The kinds of slightly autistic guys that go into specialist pubs and talk in extreme detail about boring subjects.

>DVD 1998
My family didn't have one until 2004

FYI, VHS wasn't even the second best format at the time.

t. betamax and Philips 2000 fan.
