So superman has 2 main weaknesses. Kryptonite and magic. Why does lex and other enemies spend all that time on kryptonite and not just hire some gandalf dude to magic supes shit up? There has to be some damn powerfull mages in the dc universe.

Magic is not his weakness, he's just vulnerable to it.

I like you, your right. People misunderstand vulrabilith with Achilles heal.

...

This.

But also OP forgot red sun radiation.

Can vampires bite Superman since they're magic?

They can pierce his skin, but once they do they burst into flames because of his solar energy

Yes, but it's a bad idea.

...

Exactly
To give an example let's look at it in terms of abstract mechanics
Think of Superman's Invulnerability like this -- any damage coming in has to go through a buffer of 50 resistance points. Magic attacks and effects bypass that buffer and treat him like an ordinary, if very tough, person

Kryptonite doesn't even worry about the resistance points it goes directly after his HP and imposes status effects dependent on the color of the Kryptonite

It depends on the writer and universe but usually Red Sun radiation doesn't actively depower him, he just doesn't charge his batteries like Yellow Sun radiation does. He'd still have powers for a while he'd just be on a timelimit and the clock would start ticking away faster any time he used his powers.

Supes is vulnerable to a bunch of shit. You could punch him to death if you were strong enough. Does anyone have that Luthor story where he's mulling over all the ways he could feasibly kill Superman?

Can a bullet enchanted to pierce through anything kill Superman? He'd never see it coming since he normally tanks guns.

>You could punch him to death if you were strong enough
People always forget this. The universe is a big place. Lot of aliens! No shortage of people who are a match for Supes.

depends on the vampire. If they have "I can pierce everything that I want to suck blood magic" yes, they can.
If its a normal vampire that has x5 human strength he should not have strength enough in his bite to bite him (still a writer would be lazy and make the bite effective just for fun.."what if superman was biten by a vampire" kind of story...comic fun over logic)

Logically that's how it's supposed to work but it's usually immediate.

While Superman can be hurt by magic-based attacks, his near-invulnerability still functions but at a reduced capacity.

Basically, a fatal magic spell kills a normal human but only does massive or critical damage to Superman.

As for Lex I don't think it's so much killing Superman at this point as it is getting the rest of humanity to take his view point and see Superman as a threat to humanity as a whole and showing that humanity doesn't need some God flying around in a red cape. He's basically an evil "FUCK YEAH HUMANITY" kind of guy. Of course this, and the following, depends on the writer and your Luthor.

As for Lex using magic I kind of see it working out two ways. Either he'd be like Reed Richards. As in he's intelligent for sure but magic requires a kind of thinking that he's just too grounded in science and logic to adjust and change to.

Or he'd see it as humanity getting table scraps from beings that consider their selves higher and holier than humanity, like how he believes Superman thinks of himself, and be against it from a philosophical stand point.

If the spell was both sound and strong enough to, then sure. You just have to be a bit specific with the spell/s. For example casting a fire spell would effect Supes the same way as if you used a flamethrower on him. But if you cast a spell that was "Fire that burns all" then you'd start doing damage.

a Red Sun deprives him of his powers or only he can not recharge them?
Because if its the second his powers should last hours or days.

Didn't Superman manage to survive in vacuum of space despite the loss of his powers due to red solar radiation while other Kryptonians suffocated?

Usually it takes his powers away immediately, but it shouldn't.

Superman survive in vacuum of space flying through Krypton and his red sun (world made of kryptonite + a fucking giant red sun) to beat superboy prime.

so if he needs it...fuck kryptonite, red sun and magic.

The main reason being that they usually don't have 20 pages just to show him slowly losing his powers.

Superman does whatever the plot requires him to do and is as strong or weak to things as it requires as well.

That said, if he's mind controlled and turns evil, Could Excalibur cut him down?

depends of what kind of magic Excalibur has.

If it has the "cut through anything" magical property it will cut him if it only gives +20 of charisma and leadership (aka you will be king) to his wielder then no.

OP also forgot extreme force. There's even a damn short story where Lex Literally Describes all of these, with cute little hypothetical pictures of a big group of villains that typify the Death in question just fucking Supes' shit up.

He-Man slaughtered the duplicate Supes in the Masters of the Universe JL crossover

Why would a mage work for Luthor when he can just use magic to materialize as much money as he wants whenever he wants?

Well, that´s how Doomsday killed him. Also Lobo in his popular years used to to fuck him up.

And Superman won against Arion magic.
You can search for cases when superman is fucked up by Juan Magico the mexican stunt double of David Copperfield and cases when he beats a supreme sorcerer.
