Neon and May are barely characters at all, Emerald would be a good lesbian character but it depends on how they treated her character after that sort of reveal, if she remains evil/if they kill her off.

Would it matter if she stayed evil? I get that the one gay character (at that point) being evil could send a certain message, but I also think it would be a disservice to her character to make her good right after she was confirmed gay.

I dont mean turning her good after she reveals she's gay, just how they handle the whole situation coupled with her crush on Cinder, where she wants to stand, if she wants to be on the side of evil because she honestly believes they're right or if it's her infatuation towards Cinder keeping her there.
Also if there's any indication that Cinder will or will not return her feelings, or even notices her feelings.
I think there's an good emotional and tragic story to tell there, most people already expect a sort of redemption arc for Emerald, having her leave Cinder despite her feelings, or even fight against her at some point, may be a good approach.
Really I dont mind her being evil and gay, but if they wanted to take the route where she does turn to the side of good, I think this may me an interesting approach to it.

Oh yeah, I agree. I think Emerald's story would be very interesting if they went with he'd actually loving Cinder. The bitter street urchin following a beautiful and "generous" woman into evil, only to (possibly) find that this woman will never return her feelings. Though I can't see her going fully good even if that realisation happens. Emerald seems to be pretty bad even when not led by Cinder.
I would also find it interesting and endearing if those feelings kept Emerald sticking by Cinder despite everything. Which I guess is easier now, since they're both scared of their boss and workplace and kinda need to look out for each other.
