Are the critics wrong about Stranger Things 2?

The initial setup and the first half of this pointlessly overlong, quarter-baked season of television is an unexpected opening scene that looks like a worse version of The Gifted. Stranger Things 2 then settles in for five straight hours of pure unfiltered Netflix bloat.

If Stranger Things aired weekly, the decision to silo Eleven would be an all-time calamity, a month-plus wait for something to happen. In binge mode it’s just a bore, which only gets worse when Eleven sets off on a mission to uncover her secret origin.

In a single scene, we learn that the only nefarious new character, an angry George Michael lookalike, is the product of an abusive household, a moment of cold-water brutality with little followup that makes this season’s various genre explorations feel even more divorced from any emotional reality.

like are they wrong about it being good or wrong about it being bad?

because its bad and has always been bad

Every character added in season 2 with the exception of Sean Astin is completely fucking useless.
>Billy
just another teen guy to antagonize steve, essentially replaces his friend from S1
>Max
literally just there to start another love triangle
>2edgy4u punk group
add nothing to the story
>008
muh lawful evil

You could do a super cut removing all this bullshit and the season would be better

Billy is the only character with real potential. Too bad his part is shit.

They're clearly expanding the show beyond a one-season arc that the first season relied on. They needed a bridge season to create some mythos and form more characters for a lasting series. That was this season.

lmfao what the fuck was the point of the episode?

lots of originality btw

youtube.com/watch?v=oHksDAB9vOo

also, kai greene seriously?

Ultimate pleb-filter episode, only true patricians will enjoy it.

>calling Billy useless
into plebbit you go

it's very much "comfy tv", season 2 is just the logical elaboration of the last minute of the first season: kid vomit an astral plane bug in the sewer and there is another big monster out there. all the beats are so predictable, it feels you have seen it before many times. and they end season 2 with yet another monster lounging on top of them all... sort of yawn. i don't think i will watch it.

remember the little black girl that drench her pancakes with syrup to the point of em being uneatable... it's kind of like an analogy to this show cramming as much 80s culture reference in there as possible ; oh in theory it's gonna be sweet but in reality it probably will make you sick if you are silly enough to eat it all.

Honestly season 1 was the same, a great central plot with a whooole lot of fat tacked on to it, I'm surprised you guys are surprised at all really

I mean, unless you think the teenage girl love triangle story was a totally great change of pace when switching back and forth from a cliche teen drama plot to 12 year olds in a confrontation with an abomination from a different plane of reality?

Only watched the first episode. Very disappointing.
It seemed to be going out of its way to shove it in my face that this was the 80s. I know that the first series played hard into the aesthetic, but I don't remember nearly as many overt references. I also thought there was more swearing and profanity, a somewhat superficial complaint and I have no real problem with swearing in general, but hearing it coming out of these young kids, particularly after the first season (or rather, my memories of the first season) was somewhat disconcerting.

On a more general narrative note; the premier failed to do what the pilot episode did: give me a reason to care about the plot. The cold open of the first episode is legitimately 10/10 in my opinion as it perfectly sets up an aesthetic and then has a solid mystery (kid goes missing/is attacked by a mysterious entity). The entire first season is framed around a disappearing kid in a small town and all the events spiral out of that one incident.

Here we get a vague cold open of 08, anyone who has watched the first season figures out that it's just someone related to 11. There is no mystery or vehicle to move the plot forward.

My parents like the show so I'm sure I'll finish it, and I'm expecting it to be mediocre at best but it definitely didn't capture the magic of S1's incredible opening.

>the only episode that was directed by a woman in the whole series

I think billy is gonna end up being a pretty legit antagonist if they take the possession route again and the upside down entity possesses somebody willing to accept it. Then they can toy with the slasher horror a bit with billy bully killing his dad and then stalking the kids. I also think someone big needs to die next season but unfortunately I feel like the only character they would sacrifice would be Steve and I’d hate that. If they can film it, Jonathon could bite the dust but then we’d have to watch Winona try to act for 10 episodes. Also the show has already lost so much charm with the obvious aging of the kids. I can’t imagine it’ll get better when they’re in high school.

Also first for hopper

>being this fucking dumb

They spell it out for you in the last episode. The whole point was to kill a potential plot hole. It explained why 11 was able to seal the gate when she has been hidden away barely able to use her powers. Her sister got her to tap into her anger to amplify her powers. They even show the flash back in the final episode.

That is the simple version. The real answer is 11's "sister" is actually waging jihad. There is no monsters, she simply is making an elaborate mind fuck for the entire town and terrorizing it. Its a metaph- I mean its an analogy for mudslimes terrorizing america.

This. First season stood on its own because they had no clue if there would ever be more. The structure was different due to that. Now they're playing the long game. The only rub in that is how season 1 had much bigger sequel hooks than season 2. I thought that was weird.

at last i truly see

Why didn't the female poo in loo just make them invisible to the cops?

She literally did what are you talking about

Why was their van suddenly bulletproof when they sped away in the end?

I'm talking about in the opening scene and when Eleven first joins them. A big part of how they operate is laying low and avoiding police attention. They could be fucking invisible all the time.

She can't keep illusions up for long, a quick illusion that stops them in their tracks is much better

>Also the show has already lost so much charm with the obvious aging of the kids.
Really? Only one whos aging showed was Eleven/Jane for me.

Why didn’t she make the van look like a different vehicle in the first scene?
Why didn’t she make their guns look like snakes or something so they’d drop them?
Why didn’t she just have them see a dinosaur outside instead of a retardedly huge wall?
Why didn’t she make the cops look like bad guys to each other?
>can do anything
>does nothing instead
My biggest gripe is that we are gonna have some sort of retarded arc with her coming to find 011 in Hawkins because her crew got captured or killed and 011 will have to fight her. Then they team up for le ebin ending

Dustin looked visibly older. And 011 went from looking innocent in s1 to well into puberty in s2. What’s worse is you can tell she is gonna end up another Emma Watson with her dumb misinformed idealogies on wage gaps and shit

The real question is why is she so small?
She got the same height as 011

Not much, but they will. How bad will season 3 be?

Because she usually has split seconds to make her choice in illusion. Hindsight is 20/20

It was? Damn reality is a bitch.

It really is the shittiest episode in the entire season, I mostly skipped it since it was so fucking boring and completely irrelevant to the story.

She sucks

Because she’s a stinky Indian that retained her English accent despite living in the US for the majority of her life

I still dont understand why that dude uses a mask when he has a giant orange mohawk

how do womanlets actually function in the real world
she is literally the size of a prepubescent child how does she get through the day as an adult?

The whole subplot with 11 was really fucking pointless and they're clearly stretching the plot to milk it as much as possible its painfully obvious. This episode was like one of those anime episode fillers like Piccolo gets a drivers license.

I was really like her and hoppers chemistry and would have really preferred it if they played house a little longer and somebody else could’ve gotten stuck in the tunnels. It was really reminiscent of the last of us and I’m a sucker for storylines involving tough men getting worn down by somebody they genuinely love.

Also that last scene made me think there’s gonna be a video game in the future

The Jonathon Nancy scenes were terrible.

I heard their relationship was voted in reddit, what a great mistake.

>anime episode fillers like Piccolo gets a drivers license.

that episode was great mayne

Steve is the most under-appreciated character, man. Pisses me off to see the writers treat him like some bitch.

I blame Reddit for not being able to handle the Chad Steve over the Virgin Johnathan.

Did we ever get source on the Beyond Stranger Things theme song?
inb4 >Beyond Stranger things

>talking to normie dad and older 30 year old sister about the show
>they both love Nancy x Jonathon and think that Nancy is a badass
>They only kind of liked Steve
Is he actually not a popular character outside of Sup Forums?

The show ended for me this season. If you liked the diversity squad, expect to see a lot more of that because the Netflix executives will be MUCH more involved in the making of season 3. Also if you think that the release wasn't held hostage until they added that shitty subplot, just to add brown people to the cast, you're legit retarded.

There was a lot of things bad with this season and ep 7 was by far the worst. The biggest problem was that they took the kids apart and had them do their own thing instead of the Goonies like adventure of s1. Stop being so easily triggered by brown people if the whole cast had been white it wouldn't have changed a thing.

>Literally why
I remember normies gushing over his little baseball bat flip shit in S1, but that’s it. And the dude did get a commercial deal...
However, Nancy is a dumb roastie.
>Rich, handsome, loyal, and good-hearted
VS
>Omega hyper-autist mongoloid obsessed with his faggot brother

Network executives forcing their political agenda into a show is just patronizing. This kills the show.

Notice how I didn't mention anything about Lucas.

>11 is one of the main characters
>Gets her own episode
>Sup Forums thoroughly triggered.

I love you guys but sometimes you don't make allot of sense.

>>Omega hyper-autist mongoloid obsessed with his faggot brother

Srsly, he wants to smash that boipussi more than Nancy's

>pretending to be retarded

What political agenda? diversity? because that's not what drove down the quality of the show it was the writing

That's what happens when you have to write in a shitty subplot in the last second.

When I saw the green mask I got excited, then I realized it wasn't the same green mask

All my normal friends find Steve the relatable likeable one. Everyone I know thinks Jonathan is the weird silent kid with the over attached mom who gets bullied and ends up shooting up the school. It also doesn't help that every girl I k ow thinks he's ugly as all shit

>calling Billy useless

But he is a little useless faggot.

His chad dad has to beats the shit out of him to repress Billy's homosexual urges. Billy then got his ass kicked yet again by some lanky loser and a little girl.

He added nothing to the plot and was a shitty annoyance for most of the series with a half-assed racism plot.

>she is literally the size of a prepubescent child how does she get through the day as an adult

I thought she was only like a year or two older. There's no possible way they mean for her to be an adult. Like 13 max

youtube.com/watch?v=uRsDPtNpSxc
You really think this suave dude is a faggot?

>doesn't fuck her

Yes

Do you think that based Sup Forums poster will get the skelly pusi?

They're gonna kill off Jonathan in the next season because the actor is a confirmed drug addict. Steve always wins.

That means we'll get more crazy Winona in the next season.
Which isn't a good thing - she was fucking unbearable in this season - not because she's a bad actress, but because they told her to do the same thing;
It's sad to see your waifu suck at acting desu

IMO that season was pretty mediocre, it was basically the same thing but bigger. They also overstepped the line between homage and nostalgia porn. The epilogue made me furious, though - the way they shat on Steve and Dustin just made me actively despise that season.
Also Bob's death was bullshit and there's something inherently infuriating about an indian girl with a british accent.

Every girl I’ve talked to immediately says either they hate Steve or ‘Steve is ugly,’ because they identify with Jonathon instead. But I haven’t spoken to anybody since season 2 happened, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they changed their tune now that Steve lost it all.

All the guys I’ve spoken to like both Jon and Steve, and agree that Steve’s hair is a work of art.

Nick Drake is alive?

The actor is also gay, so yes

>Jonathan: I have friends.
>Will: then why are you always hanging out with me?
>Jonathan: because I wanna smash that boip- I mean, because you’re my best friend!

Thank you for that nugget of knowledge. I also couldn’t agree more.

The only reason Jonathan slept with that whore Nancy is because the conspiracy Jew planted that idea on his head

I'll be honest, I was pissed of last year when Steve got the girl instead of Jonathan, but mostly because Jonathan wasted such a good chance.

Like nigga, I didn't get to kill an interdimensional monster with the cutest girl in school when I was your age; the best chance I ever got was when I was teaching maths to some chicks, and you're telling me that you didn't use that opening? Fuck you, Jonathan

>season 3
>homosexuals
>interracial relationships
>diversity squad
Is this what you wanted?

yes

I want a qt trap to become part of the main cast too

Disgusting, we all know this myth that the episode is bad is being perpetuated by CRUNCH voters and their whiny pale white asses

What a sad time we live in.

word nerd

i need licorice STAT

Unrelated to the OP, anyone else tear up for dustin at the ball? I fucking loved him this season. Him and Steve are too good for this show. I wanna see a steve and dustin spin off adventures.

That made me so sad and angry. I thought he was a faggot this season by being such an insubordinate shit, harboring Dart, but I felt some mad feels when he and Steve started to bond.

Roasties don’t deserve Dustin.

Good season but that episode was undeniably fucking awful. There could have been another way to tease more girls coming into fight aliens for season 3.

This desu

Before that scene I just thought that the season was a mediocre sequel, but that scene made me legit pissed off
FFS I'm watching that shitty show for escapism, not for the feels
And of all the characters, why did they shit on the best ones?

Her sister got her to tap into her anger to amplify her powers.
did you not watch the season 1 finale? she used the anger and pain from her past to tap into a whole new level of power to defeat the demogorgon. That "hole" was long filled

>insubordinate shit
>not referring to the guy who divulges all of the group's secrets to someone who is not part of the party just to get some pussy, and puts the entire party in jeopardy by dragging along his slag to the mission thus luring her brother there and threatening the entire mission.

>a poo in loo from Denmark with genes that have gone through an eggbeater
>"why does she look like a turd and have height deficiency?"
hmmmm...

that was one of the best episodes

>acquire one of the best female actresses for your new Netflix experiment
>(what is The Crucible)
>force her to be a monotone blithering mess for two seasons straight
genius

here's something to comfort you
youtube.com/watch?time_continue=257&v=ar9qA3WJInk

I felt for him

thank you user

Yeah so what? She became a passive emotional basketcase that needed protecting. If they showed her in the season 2 finale sealing a giant fucking hole without a little backstory it would've been a lot more bland. The episode was shit dont get me wrong, im just explaining why they made it.

Plus I already explained that none of that even happened eight is just fucking with her and everyone else because she thinks that we shouldn't be pooing in the loo. So she is mind fucking her and everyone close to her for being a cunt in the rainbow room.

True, true. Man, everyone in the party was an annoying little shit this season...

I understand why they made it, I'm just saying it was unnecessary and superfluous reasoning.
>Plus I already explained that none of that even happened eight is just fucking with her and everyone else because she thinks that we shouldn't be pooing in the loo. So she is mind fucking her and everyone close to her for being a cunt in the rainbow room.
kek, this makes everything clear

so bad that I skipped it right away

Unlike a dexter character I didn’t buy any of 8’s diatribe and fucking hated their vigilante shit. It turns out that lab is more grey than evil. 8 is a manipulative cunt. I think that was the point. She’s being setup to be a worthy advocacy in a future season. That’s about it. If it’s no t it she’s the worst pointless character ever.

Honestly it feels to me that Max is there to set up a female friend for 11 that's her same age

>another reddit liberal show is spammed on Sup Forums and mods do nothing
oh yes Sup Forums

>Tfw people online are saying episode 7 is the best episode

Sauce?

Yeah so the trap becomes more important than any woman on the show. Yet again men doing things better than women while pretending to be women

That eleven girl always looks like she wants to laugh. God this show sucks.

Paul Reiser's character had a lot of potential. I wish they didn't turn him into a 2 dimensional do gooder towards the end.

Hopefully they can salvage him next season. He brought some much needed moral complexity to what the government was doing at Hawkins Lab.

mfw its true

worst episode in the whole series for sure

Only because of the huge backlash it got.

God forbid the urban millennial wet dream episode where the diverse band of misunderstood outcasts lead by a tough-as-nails superpowered Indian woman be utter shit.
They feel the need to defend it out of principle

I agree. With Mike being on period for the entire season, Will only being a walking plot device again and Dustin's retard toad moments, Lucas still managed to be more annoying than all the other three put together. He literally chose hos before bros.

It wasn't that bad wtf
