It was better than Frozen

>It was better than Frozen
>Didn't gain traction like Zootopia or Frozen
>No one fucking talks about it and it'll end up cult status like Treasure Planet and Atlantis

What the fuck?

>make a movie about brown people
>expect money
Disney didn't learn from The Princess and the Frog

> it'll end up cult status like Treasure Planet and Atlantis
It received critical acclaim and made way more money than either of those though.

Story was a mess, terrible pacing, stupid power of love deus ex machina ending, biggest big lipped alligator moment since the 90s, moana is le strong female protagonist with no personality, mauis motivation for stealing the jewel didn't make sense, etc etc etc. movie was total hackwork. Doesn't deserve to be remembered as anything other than that

It felt like something from to-do list: "brown princess movie for our diversity agenda"

Fucking Disney

Y'know, not everything has to have a secret agenda behind it. A Polynesian setting is something they haven't done before, they probably just wanted to try something different.

Disney is too (((smart))) to care about diversity over moneu.

Frozen: $1.2 billion
Zootopia: $1 billion
Moana: $500 million

Looks to me like (((they))) gave up five to seven hundred million dollars for the sake of diversity.

Lilo&Stitch already covered brown island people and did a better job.

My bad, of course. This movie had much more focus on Polynesian culture than Lilo and Stitch had though.

Moana wasn't bad or anything but it was pretty much a very generic Hero's Journey. Not much to talk about

>covered
oh sure, just like how Sleeping Beauty covered pasty european people

can't milk Grimm and Hans Christian Anderson forever

>Mulan
>Pocahontas
>Jasmine
Why do people act like disney never made non white princess?

Cute

>implying Disney movies always make $1 billion+
Look at Tangled which is based on another European Princess fairy tale. It only made around close to $600 million not to mention it's like their most expensive film as well.

americans only care about skintone, not actual ethnicity

>Fucking Disney! They decided to create a movie about a cast and setting that is foreign to mine, how DARE they try something different!!!!

Must be nice having your mentality stuck in the 50's.

This is actually very true but not just in the US but all over the world especially asia

Aladdin made tons of money.

Needs more porn of loli Moana.

Aladdin is probably older than people complaining about Moana being forced diversity.

This. Generic Disney movie, I was rolling my eyes during that ghost grandma scene.

It had catchy songs, but it wasn't anything special.

Bit that was from a different region

And yet, it's going to win the Oscar.

At least the crab was awesome. Best song too.

It's not a cult classic if it made money back by opening weekend.
Then you just have a hit movie.

And it is popular, just not AS popular.
Not being the most popular thing ever doesn't mean you're instantly underground and cult.

Big lipped alligator?

But Zootopia was more about diversity than Moana.

Its gratifying that Zootopia fucked Shitskin "feel the Ethnic" Moana just like it fucked Finding Faggot Dory in the box office.

Moana must fail if Zootopia is to survive

>Moana must fail if Zootopia is to survive

I don't think that's how it works.

But Zootopia was the one about ethnics.

Moana was beautiful, however the story wasn't the greatest and the 1 2 3 plot line really annoyed me. It's not a bad movie by any means, however Zootopia easily feels like it has more depth in content and environment. Even Frozen feels like it could warrant a sequel in terms of the in-universe, where as Moana really doesn't feel super expansive beyond the scope we were given.

tldr, it's not as popular because the plot wasn't as in depth. It is by no means a bad movie, it just isn't as good as the others. (Not that I'm calling either of them masterpieces).

>implying it won't be Zootopia
Zootopia will win the Oscars and the Annies.

Why do most Zootopiafags have to be this obnoxious about it though.

The songs were better than the movie, but you know why the movie didn't succeed like Zootopia and frozen they didn't think of the coconut

Shhh just let the Sup Forumsacks think it was about silly talking animals.

They're not known for being smart.

>The songs were better than the movie
Really. I feel like I would've enjoyed watching a broadway musical version more with the same story.

and it has few fan arts

>ethnic leads
there's your problem

>generic anime features and bodytype that look nothing like her
might as well fap to a white girl on facebook cosplaying Moana

It's wrong yea but
>Complaining about generic anime sameface when talking about Disney.

It wasn't merchandized so agressively as those two, but it was a huge hit too. Made a lot of money.

Unlike TP and Atlantis it succeed

>tfw you will never be so deluded that you think that every movie that has brown people in it is a jewish conspiracy

It's just one guy who believes in Zootopia/Lion King Pocahontas/Moana comparison
Unfortunately Frozen is our Lion Kong, and Zootopia is Kingdom of the Sun, it even have a documentary how they made it:
youtube.com/watch?v=D3pF9owYlRI

It was going to be so fucking depressing

I'm still of the mindset that the movie didn't latch onto kids because its underlying message is that kids should give up their dreams to make family and community happy.

Moana is almost exactly the mirror image of Let It Go.

>its underlying message is that kids should give up their dreams to make family and community happy.

wat.

A scene that comes out of left field and serves no purpose; here the SHINY scene.

Somehow it manages to be the best part of the movie as well.

really makes you think

>sjw/feminist propaganda doesn´t sell

only on Sup Forumsmblr could this realization be shocking

>What is Frozen
>What is Zootopia

Congratulations, this is the most retarded post on Sup Forums I've seen in a while.

>It was better than Frozen
I agree, Moana isn't the best movie i've seen but it was good, much better than frozen was at least.

Shitty tvtropes term that quirky redditors use

Smart people market to the audience that's in the majority, not pander to minorities whom are still less likely to spend their money

Actually, zootopia is about the the follies of forced diversity and the myth of how it makes everyone a better person. The movie was a giant middle finger to people like you and you didn't even realize it

Who would have thought that people prefer to be around their own race, I mean come on, its 2017

woa woa

treasure planet does not have cult status.

Moana

They were in good movies. Moana wasn't.

The Rock was pretty off-putting as a VA

It didn't come out of left field or serve no purpose. It explained where his hook had been for the last thousand years and set up the scene where they were talking about their past on the boat.

Now the coconut people. Those were random and served no purpose other than having an excuse to do an action scene.

a scene that comes out of nowhere and is really out of placed, named after the scene in all dogs go to heaven but also applies to things like the pink elephants from dumbo or the river boat scene from willy wonka

What?
It was about how everyone's a little bit racists and we all need to work at it to make things good.

does she have a mini-Maui on her boob?

That's because Glen Keane was working with them to develop some sort of all-new CG technology to give the film a distinctive look that they then scrapped with nothing to show for it.

>cult status like Treasure Planet Atlantis
It didn't do that bad. Treasure Planet didn't make back it's budget and Atlantis just barely made back their's. As we speak, Moana has made 500 mil worldwide. Maybe if Moana had princess status it would be less likely to fade, but not being the inescapable armageddon of popularity that Frozen doesn't mean people will forget it.

That was in modern day Hawaii, though. Moana is in a made up Polynesian mishmash called Oceana.

>Pocahontas
>good
Don't lie to yourself, user.

>princess movie
so you didn't even care enough to watch BUT you had to spread some poison in the thread. typical.

>it'll end up cult status like Treasure Planet and Atlantis
This would require it to actually be really good and unfairly overlooked.
I support Disney trying something different and hope they keep doing it, it's an improvement on the princess formula in several ways, but despite its good sales I have a horrible feeling Moana will be even more forgotten than Princess and the Frog in a few years because there's nothing truly powerful about it. The script hits a thin series of perfunctory plot and character beats with very little flair, as a result all the emotional and artistic payoff feels hollow.
I did enjoy Shiny but it was like it existed in its own separate (far more visually interesting) world within the film, that we see for a couple of minutes then leave and never see again.

how are they bad?

>Moana's dream was to sail
>also sailing was helpful to her community
>movie ends with her entire community sailing
Flawed theory there. Little girls like actual heroes sometimes instead of selfish ice women.

im curious about that, any tech demos?

That's why the next film Coco (not from Crash Bandicoot) that's focused on Mexico is also not worth looking forward to.

Anyone else tired of these lame films about different races/cultures? The only one that seems to be passable is Gigantic. Gigantic is about Spain...but the film instantly abandons the cultural bullshit for the sake of following the Jack & Beanstalk fairy tale so it's tolerable to stomach.

You can fuck off right there, Jasmine is a small time character in Aladdin's movie and frankly it was Robin Williams who stole the show. Stop pretending that Jasmine is the protagonist or that she's oh so important and the movie was about her.

But the movie essentially ended with Judy Hopps saying:

"Give Diversity a chance and keep trying at it and put effort into it."

It's still propaganda indoctrination for Leftist shit. Also the idea that a woman is a capable cop like Judy was such Gynocentric propaganda.

TVTropes garbage meme

but Judy went above and beyond to reach her goals.

They aren't, just jarring. They leave a lasting impact but they often leave you wondering what the fuck just happened. Sometimes they're the best scene in the movie

>smart people pander to me, not other people!

o i am laffin

You talk to the board who unironically think the Angry Birds Movie was an anti-migrant pamphlet (the irony being that if you imagine the Birds as Native Americans and the Pigs as Europeans, you can easily reverse the theory)

>unattractive
>male and female lead trying to get both audiences
>rushed plot, coconut warriors, see of monsters then suddenly big bad.
>Mauis big realization to come back is not only off screen but also highly predictable and hes gone for a very short amount of time you're never in the "I miss him" phase
>the grandmothers death was off putting
couple of the issues I saw with it

>case one ; immigration is bad
>case two : immigration is bad
No, it still works.

>the grandmothers death was off putting

How

a combination of how in real life they would cannibalize the dead and thats how the adventure started, they begin the actual story with a death of one of the three characters we have met yet

>only 2 characters that carry the movie
>sidekicks that got cut out of the story or made retarded to appeal to the audience
>boring as fuck villain
>shiny crab was the most memorable part which had nothing to do with the rest of the movie

I mean Frozen had 2 girl and 2 guy characters people loved and a really well done sidekick, Zootopia had many interesting characters, also great scenery

this had two characters that just leave each other at the end and... water, it's really just underwhelming
and if the most interesting part about the princess is that she doesn't need a love interest then rethink your fucking movie disney

>>only 2 characters that carry the movie
that's good though. Fucking avengerfags.

People became .ore racist since them.

Aladdin is a memorable cartoon with catchy songs and great visuals
Moana suffers from boring sea and realistic coconuts tree for 90% of the story, Songs that are kinda ok but also cut with dialogs. and the global story is limited, with some weird choices about what to drag and what to cut. (Seriously, she takes too long to get out of that fucking island)

they had to give the pig more screentime

> people think Tamatoa was out of place
> he appears in the wall scrolls at the beginning
> he appears in Maui's tattoos
> Shiny explains Maui's motivation

wew

I honestly think Disney is just doing it to avoid getting flak from liberals.

Disney IS liberals.

I think Tangled would've done better except that just 4 years earlier Disney was producing crap like Home on the Range and Chicken Little. Tangled was the break out movie for Disney and it, along with Wreck-it Ralph led to the greater success of Frozen and Zootopia.

youtube.com/watch?v=kRO6EHhPr5g
Poor quality, but you can kinda see the "oil painting" look they were going for. The story for it at this point was horrendous though. Basically two teens from the real world get sucked into a fairy tale by an evil witch who's trying to prove that fairy tale love doesn't exist. The real Rapunzel in the story is replaced by a teen girl from San Francisco, and Rapunzel becomes the squirrel.

Disney board leans left, but they are a multi-billion dollar company that is publicly traded. They have a bottom line to consider so they aren't going to stick their necks very far politically if it's going to negatively impact their bottom line. If the backlash against social justice continues to gain momentum, you'll see Disney become more lukewarm to it, even though they believe in it. If it can't make them money, they can't fully support it, whether they want to or not.

reverse Enchanted

I'm glad they went with "shrek-like" approach.

This. Disney is run by Leftist/Liberal/Democratic scumbags who believe in all sorts of political correct garbage for the sake of being inoffensive so that they cash out big with average people.

What Disney doesn't understand is that most people do NOT care about other cultures unless they're particularly ambitious, superior, etc. Backwater islanders? No one is going to care.

In what fucking universe is Disney liberal? What the fuck am I reading?

That's because you're a moron.

Depicting other cultures is now liberal SJW brainwashing. It's amazing that Disney telling the same stories as they have for the last three decades is suddenly propaganda because of reactionary idiots trying to see enemies everywhere.

For one thing all their films have notable Pro-Female themes while males are emasculated, portrayed as lousy compared to females, etc. Leftists/Democrats/Liberals are very much the part of women.
