That's always been the case though, so don't feel too down about it. Audiences want to be scared just enough, but not too much, to have fun. Weirdo shit like From Beyond, Videodrome, or the Thing goes a little too far for mainstream.
those masks are too expensive
True, but the thought and visual of someone transforming, being taken apart, pieces attached, etc and becoming something other than human is far more disturbing than a loud noise and something coming at you.
I also have a feeling that pulling off the practical effects is considered too much work and that's one of the reasons why it's so rarely done.
>bodyhorror
>horror
It's shocking and repulsive but wouldn't say horrorific
Thanks, I always wanted to know why more of these films are not made. Since The thing was great, and we are always getting smasher films ( and yes I do know the difference in cost between both sub genres).
This
the thing is pretty mainstream nowadays isnt it?
At least there's vidya.
Body horror got replaced by slashers. Has the same visceral feel with much effort needed for costume design and originality
Playing Resident Evil 2 as a kid probably directly influenced my fascination with The Fly and Videodrome years later.
Bodyhorror doesn't strike as heavy in vidya
Must be the fact that there is no real flesh to distinguish from the fake, it's all the same
More like because it's lame.
>Oh no, I have a tooth for an eye and tentacles coming out of my skull. How scary!
The bodyhorror ever made and still sends chills is Robocop. It really is an unforgettable scene. That's bodyhorror done right.
waking up one morning and discovering something wrong with some function of your body can be extremely unsettling. it's just taking that to its logical extreme and even if it's not scary, they're generally fun to watch for the effects or inventiveness of the scenarios.
maybe you'd be drawn more to films that are more subtle on the body horror aspects and merge them with psychological horror like In My Skin or Safe (1995).
Eternal reminder that Under the Skin is canonically body horror
Or Eyes without a Face, which I'd technically call body horror.
Pretty horrible to have your face peeled off and put on another person, where it rots away!
But CGI isn't?
In Slither? Not really.
yeah, good mention. I was shocked at how explicit the face removal scene was the first time I saw it.
Yeah, but at least Billy Idol writes a song about you.
>body horror
>scary
...
I have come up with the plot to a good body horror kino
>a man goes to bed
>has weird nightmares that night
>wakes up and is now 5'6"
Even the pizza man from Spaceballs grosses me out.
>wakes up and is now Jose Altuve
>Goes on to win the World Series
how is this scary?
I love body horror but it grosses me out way too much. The best/worst is an innocent person being transformed into a disgusting abomination, no fun if it just comes out ugly.
change the last part to
>wakes up and his penis has shrunk a quarter inch
and you will have the most terrifying film of the decade
>oh no we're being chased by oogabooga jumpscare #3565747565754
>when you have to compensate so hard you win the world series
The movie ends like The Social Network. But instead of refreshing Facebook he's refreshing a height gaining surgery site to see if the doctor replied to his email.
"Jose Altuve is the shortest billionaire in the world"
Axiom Verge was more subtle but I felt captured the atmosphere of "stranger in a strange land" of a lot of body horror.
what a great movie
It was very disturbing to see when I was young
That's my life everyday but the nightmare doesn't end
what kino is this?
Slither
>Kino
>Don't know the movie
not buying it. normies love torture porn. body horror is just another side to that horror exploitation coin. also the thing is insanely popular
Leviathan is underrated body horror.
Watched this for the first time recently and this really threw me off guard.
Slither is kino.
Not really, still hasn't registered with normies
Likely never will.
>uses Kino
... reddit, pls, leave.
Dumb Brainlet poster
I grew an inch! i'm a man
Any good body horror/practical effect that isn't just gore shlock for tasteless horror fans? Besides The Thing and Cronenberg.
>5'6
>man
>KINO
a quarter inch doesn't really matter, r-right guys??
>The Thing and Cronenberg
>not shitty gore shlock
Fuck that scene man, that and the one where the kid’s tendons get cut out and used as puppet strings are the two Nightmare on Elm Street kills that stick with me
why
body horror turns me on
I love From Beyond, but low budget horror movies are generally not consumed by the masses regardless of the sub-genre.
