Why do so many fuckers online think this is one of (if not) the best cartoons airing currently/ever?

>unlikable characters
>story isn't very outstanding
>art and animation is okay, I guess
>it's mostly notable for being about a bunch of colored lesbians
>INB4 asshurt; this is my opinion. You can voice yours too.

why do you care?

does other people liking this show impede upon your life in some way?

I just like the unique presentation of old themes and cliches. It's different, but not too different.

Plus, all the gay is lesbians, so it doesn't count.

Best girl

>art and animation is okay, I guess
>okay
The animation is anal waste just like the show.

This, what the fuck is wrong with you people that you HAVE to criticize Steven Universe? Can't you just accept that people like the show and leave it at that?

Because it's a fun show.

>this is my opinion. You can voice yours too.

Well, if you look at basically everything else currently airing, lots of Sup Forums folks will say SU. I'm a fan myself because I'm really into the character development and story building the show has to offer.

I feel like the show does not cater to the lowest denominator in terms of wacky stupidity.

TTG, Gumball, Regular Show, Clarence, all rely on zaniness to be entertaining. The same shtick. That's nice for kids, but the older demographic doesn't always lean that way.

Steven Universe has its fun, and just the right amount of drama and seriousness without becoming full on angst.

Sure it's not the same tier as other "mature" shows like Young Justice, Batman TAS, or Samuari Jack... but it has a balance that I really don't know how to describe.

Maybe I don't feel like a blithering idiot that is easily amused by slapstick and silliness when I watch it. And I don't need to be edgy to enjoy the more serious storytelling.

As for the gay themes, I just don't look so deeply into it like that. Its a minor thing to get worked up about. As with everything else, treating it like it has an agenda and obsessing over it just ruins the experience.

But that's just me.

Steven Universe is a story about growing up, finding your own way as an individual against any force or authority that would say otherwise. Freedom is a precious gem.

Because it's a fun show.
>Likable characters
>Good story
>Uhh...unique art
>Progressive themes
Also
>Good soundtrack and songs

Yeah, it handles mature themes without getting bleak, trusts its audience to not need handholding and is confident in its portrayal of emotion and sexuality without taking itself too seriously.
It deals in massive stakes both emotionally and politically and does not stop to explain things to kids but just has central characters exemplify the points. Also it's full of minute subtext, hints and secrets so many things don't even register till they become important.
For a cartoon it really puts the bar high in many regards.

My problem with the show is that they're all over lesbians but don't give a shit about gay men

>hates show
>makes a thread about show
>thread topic is a topic that's been talked about to fucking death

isnt stefan galaxy just the tumblr porn tag for su

>sees obvious bait thread which purpose is to lure in SU fans
>SU fans fall for bait despite it being 'talked to death'

What are some of your top currently running cartoons?

...

Your problem is being a queer

I enjoy the lightheartedness of it. It doesn't force LOL WACKY RANDUMB down your throat like other cartoons that have come out in the last decade. I also like how the lesbian thing is done in the sense that while yes it is there, it doesn't label itself, point itself out to you, or focus on it.
There is a difference between they are lesbians and LOOK AT ME WORLD I am a lesbian and this is my GIRLFRIEND an I don't care what you think about it even though I am going to force you to notice it and make it the topic of conversation at every turning point.

Given the current state of cartoons, you don't need to be particularly good to be top dog.

Because there aren't any other good cartoons on right now.

>Shit thread we have every day
>You're all still going to earnestly have it again

Why do people like my little pony?

They're autistic.

Containment board when

Please dont make a bait/falseflag thread for this, go to sug general and complain there.

Also reminder to sage this thread if posible so it fades away.

No one wants 15 SU threads at the same time, specially if theres a general, just use that and shitpost there.

replace all of those points with "good backgrounds"

It came in right at the peak of "lore cartoons" and really picked up the slack where others were lacking. It was pretty refreshing to see the world and lore being revealed instead of made up as it went along. At least that's why I picked it up.

Did anyone make a Jughead edit yet?

Well, in part it's that the show is actually pretty comfy and ambitious, it's trying to make good points and tackle difficult issues, it's trying to be the show kids might need, it's got some good music and the lore gets pretty interesting once it gets going.

In part it's the "so proggressive, so important" hype. I think currently in the US (also western, though not so intensely), uh, cultural climate, there's a need or trend to support "progressive" content and demand representation and so on, and make this representation of ethnic or sexual minorities a huge and important issue. So you get #giveelsaagirlfriend movements and people tweeting about characters being coded x or the IMPORTANCE of female creators and black voices and so on. Of course all of it is important, but I feel like it's being built up into a somewhat bigger issue than it actually is - and SU happens to hit a lot of progress point boxes with it's genderless gay space rocks.

So the sjws are also twisting the show into something more proggressive than it actually is.

tldr; dual effect of actually having good elements and also happening to resonate with contemporary social issues trends

Based OP

A show can't be lesbian centered? It has to have gay characters as well? what?

For many of the reason Undertale took off.

>The characters are honest.
>The humor is far enough in left field but not too far so that it weirds you out. Perfect for a chuckle.
>Appeals and addresses specifically to what a lot of younger kids and millennials "feeling" in a fun way.
>Generally a good narrative.
>Generally good animation.

>comfy
Shorthand by shills for boring and nothing happening

I was right there with you til that last part
>Freedom is a precious gem.
You're such a fag user.

I'm a pretty depressed motherfucker and this show gives me just the tiniest sliver of hope that things might get better.

Unlike most cartoons it actually follows a story and it doesn't try to rely on retarded random meme attempts to be entertaining. I had no interest in this show before, but it's really good when you can binge it.

What I like most about it is that it (rarely) forces drama. Most of the conflicts between characters make sense given who these people are, and (again, with exceptions) the treats these conflicts not as good vs. evil, but people coming into conflict.

It's actually pretty hard to pull that off. It does necessarily limit the stakes though, you're never going to have the kind epic violence that your heroic drama is built on. Stephen is probably not going to kill a diamond, lash their gem to a chariot and ride around the temple to defile the body. None of the gems are likely to follow an evil prophecy to usurp power then, when faced with their utter ruin declare "The town can go to hell, everything can go to hell, but I am going to die fighting!". It is unlikely that one of the homeworld gems will allow Steven to kill them because they know that it will kill Steven as well, and they find the concept amusing.

That cavil aside, it's a very well executed show, with a novel approach, and that makes it stand out as something to watch.

I watch it because lapis is sexy thats why.

1.) Just because you don't like it doesn't mean everyone else in the world doesn't
2.) Stop being contrarian
3.) There are some things in the world you just won't be able to understand

Either one, OP

The show feels like schlock similar to the seasonal light-novel anime adaptations that are pumped out every 12 weeks as it tries to juggle itself between an action cartoon and SoL. Most of the characters are melodramatic about everything after the corrupted gems, Cluster and Jasper were taken care of and only Greg and Lapis are any interesting as far as major characters. With Greg he had a beginning, middle and end that molded him into a proper character that's still evolving as he's a parent who is making sure Steven is safe yet maturing on his own. Lapis is just a good character in general and the only real "human" character besides Greg as her character arc was over, therefore pretty much making her lax that she isn't a mirror bitch anymore.

Also fuck Connie, she was only good in the first episode she appeared in and now she's a major character that feels tacked on, like no one asked for her to be a major character and all her fusion and sword shit does is create another fusion no one asked for and try to be "deep". At least she isn't as bad as Ruby and Sapphire and that's pretty much how you don't make a duo.

what a woman thing to say

Reeeee no discussions allowed!!!!!!!

I like how characters are drawn when far away, and the mobile game uses that style always.

Fuck you, Connie is rad

"Everything i don't like is autism"
-The 12 year old guide to criticism-

Hey man, bad puns are a facet of Steven Universe.

They already have a containment board, it's called /trash/

Does criticising a show you like impede on your life in some way?

Nobody should make fun of my fat ugly pig nosed curly headed faggot waifu.

I feel like sergei cosmos praised for the wrong reason

insha' allah brother, insha' allah

Fat child Galaxy

Obese Kid Cosmos

No, You!
In seriousness, it's becaue Steven Universe threads come up on a regular basis, and some of the talk gets a bit much. "This show, its creators, and its fans should be thrown into a wood chipper" kinda goes above and beyond 'criticism'.

I swear this exact same thread was posted word for word yesterday

>Steven Universe is a story about growing up
Isn't it ironic that Steven becomes more childlike as the series goes on?

The gems actually seem to become more childlike.
>Steven becomes the voice of reason to the bunch of retard gems

Homosexual Child Cosmic Display

Pussy Kid And The Outer Reaches Of Space

Nu-Male In Spaaaaaaaaace!

Are the human characters, except lars and sadie, the only good characters?

>Obviously hasn't watched anything from the show in years

>proving my point

>Why do so many fuckers online think this is one of (if not) the best cartoons airing currently/ever?

Because that is objectively such a low, low bar to clear.

>Why do so many fuckers online think this is one of (if not) the best cartoons airing currently/ever?
Because they are SJW or gay itselfs. No other answer.
Check where that show is popular , sjw boards and tumblr users. Gays even have a general here on Sup Forums.

Ugly Fatty Spaceland

>what I like
-Multiple characters and funny/interesting dialogues
-animation is okay
-L O R E
-interesting powers, like control over water (this episode was dope)
-relation between steven and his mom
-Greg

>what I don't
-Can you NOT cry for one episode please ?
-FUCKING TOWNIE FUCK OFF I WANT SPACE POLITICS
-Steven's naïveté (ffs my brother is 14, lost his virginity and more, and smoke weed)
-Lars

I don't care about the progressiveness. It was quite discrete in the show.
