Why aren't you embracing your homosexuality, OP?

I don't play videogames

I'm talking about film

>it's clearly the superior format
Why? Wasn't The Hobbit shot with higher frames? I remember it looking really stupid.

why does it looks so fucking weird, what's the explanation for it.

do 60fps films even exist?

Because all the movies I want to watch are available on VHS.

Troll Core: Stimulating autist to regurgitate (false) claim that the human eye can't see faster than 30 or 40 fps.

>video games
>only 60 fps
what year is this

HFR ruins movies, I saw The Hobbit at that rate and it looked really off. It might be because I've been trained to accept 24fps but even so, I wasn't keen.
When combined with 4K that shows up every single flaw it starts becoming less like a movie and more like real life, which is not why I watch films.

Its because you are not used to it

For sports, not film.

>When combined with 4K that shows up every single flaw it starts becoming less like a movie and more like real life

Yes this kind of realism is an actual detriment to movies

Why

>DUDE I DON'T LIKE CHANGE FROM A FRAMERATE THAT WAS LIMITED BY THE MEDIUM AND THAT WE HAVE USED FOR 100 YEARS LMAO

Because we all know that those hobbit movies were the peak of effects at 24 fps so the way they used it must have been the peak!!

youtube.com/watch?v=t1xG8haCtvg

You cucks are stupid if you think its just because people aren't used to it, it just looks garbage, movies aren't about having the best graphics maybe you should stick to flicks in that case

youtube.com/watch?v=1La4QzGeaaQ

It improves the medium

>GRR CHANGE! Stuff is TOO REAL! Nobody has really done HFR but I saw retarded INTERPOLATED FAKE 60FPS SHIT and that must be how big budget movies or other shit will look!

Actors are trained to move in certain ways so 24 fps can record their movements. This looks weird/silly in real life and higher framerates.

Its kinda like how car chase scenes are filmed with cars going 10-15 mph, but because of all the blurring thanks to 24fps it looks much faster. But in 60fps it would look retarded.

It's a question of human biology.

Everything over 30fps feels real, everything under 30fps feels surreal and dreamlike AKA not real. Porn, nature documentaries, sports, reality TV shows etc. are "real" so they benefit from higher frame rates. Cinema is fiction, it's a dream, and it benefits from lower frame rates. That's also why higher resolution and sharper images makes watching porn/sports/nature documentaries better but is really jarring when it comes to cinema.

stop with this stupid fucking maymay you insufferable cunt

Retarded bullshit

An unintended (and I say unintended because wasn't the 24fps standard set because film was really expensive?) advantage 24fps has is that the mind may be subconciously filling in the gaps, perhaps creating a stronger bond between the film and viewer. There's a trick in advertising design where you can design an image or logo with missing parts/pieces/information and the viewer reacts more strongely towards it because the mind has to engage it more to fill in the missing information.

Yes. A perfect example of this is punches connecting in fight scenes.

>maymay
>cunt
>retarded bullshit

Actually, it's backed by science. Your move, faggots.

accidentalscientist.com/2014/12/why-movies-look-weird-at-48fps-and-games-are-better-at-60fps-and-the-uncanny-valley.html

>some blogger said it, its true

... just stop.

Cunt maymay

>interpolated

Because NOBODY is asking for it, not many notice let alone see anything wrong with the current framerate. I personally think what we got looks super comfy.

Brainlet

In what way?

60fps porn is fucking awesome. When the porn industry is advocating technology progress you know something is wrong with modern movies. Anyone who says they "can't get used to 60fps" is a luddite retard

All you have to do is provide an example where a movie benefits from 60 fps and you'll silence all opposition. ONE example is sufficient. Not reality/docu, not a cartoon, not a video game, but an actual live action movie.

60fps works well for porn because its unsimulated.

It's the best way to view kino

>interpolated

you're interpolated

>A shit movie looks shit

Was The Hobbit interpolated too?

Hobbit

Because just look at all these 48fps hobbit webms

oh wait

omg it's disgusting

Just wait until God King Jimbo comes back to take his throne

The video compression on this actually makes it choppy. If you do 60FPS it shouldn't be compressed.

>fire in space

none of the avatar sequels are going to be in HFR

So they had massive planetary shields before the death stars were a thing but just didn't think to install them on the death stars?

Source? I'm seeing several articles of him saying he will be using HFR

>wants to
>pushing for

They did for the second Death Star, they thought the first one was already invulnerable

He's a multibillion grossing director with a proven track record, his will is law

Yeah but that was a shitty little satellite up-link shield powered by plot driven station on Endor. Put one of these planetary shields on the DS and they would have been invulnerable

>wants to
>pushing for

Are you saying Hobbit in 48fps didn't look like shit?

Looked pretty fucking easy to break that one man, I think their main purpose is just to stop smugglers and spies, like a Space Age border crossing

The Hobbit in any format looked like shit

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I'm saying if it didn't, these threads would be filled with 48fps hobbit webms, instead of interpolated shit

>films are in 24 fps
>television is in 30 fps
>movie comes out in 48 fps
>OH MY GOODNESS user It looks JUST like a tv show! EW this is GROSS!!!
this is why we can't have nice things

This meme needs to die before you fucks start ruining movies even more.

>television is in 30 fps
whats it like being retarded

I think they shot at 48 fps, but yeah, it looked weird. I can't get over the "soap opera" feel it gives.

is that a dildo for ants?

You realise that 60fps films is just a meme to drive up the price of movie cameras which will make film an artform only accessible to the elites.
>the iphone has a 100fps camera
and it looks like shit in motion, a really high quality 60fps camera that captures in 4k and doesn't look like shite while moving will cost a ridiculous amount, good quality 4k cameras cost a lot now even.
This is besides the fact that actual physical film will be completely obsolete, nobody would bother manifacturing a camera or reel that captures/stores at 60fps, and the double in cost per second of filming for the film reel will make film recording completely unobtainable.

It's all just a ploy to keep those on top, on the top

They couldn't even get the Hobbit off the ground with 48fps. Maybe uncoupled from 3D would help, but that smoother motion just isn't want people want right now.

Disgusting
youtu.be/kgGJJbajXrc

it only looks smoother because actors are trained to move in smooth fluid motions to minimize blurring in 24fps.

I'm pretty sure it looks strange to us because when we move our eyes they don't drift along but do small flickers whereas the film keeps moving smoothly.

the standard of most televisions is 60hz
60hz = 60 fields
2 fields = 1 frame
60hz = 30fps
In reality, television is in 29.97, with most dramatic shows like HBO stuff being filmed in 24 to appear more "cinematic". Multicamera productions like game shows and sporting events are at 29.97. I know that's the case for NTSC but I believe PAL is 25 fps or something.
Just google it mate you just look dumb

>something looks bad (movies in HFR)
>compare it with something else that looks similarly bad (fucking TV shows)
>HURR DURR YOU ONLY THINK IT LOOKS BAD BECAUSE YOU ASSOCIATE IT WITH TV!!!!!

most people are blind or need glasses. 60 fps is only for people with good eyesight and most plebs don't have that.

>Why aren't you embracing 60fps film,

Because it doesn't actually exist in any released Hollywood film yet.

See:

That looks more like a documentary than a film.

Because it's a distraction from genuine high frame rate (120fps+). If 60fps becomes popular then people might settle for it and never bother with really good motion quality.

The temporal resolution of interlaced video is still 60fps in most cases. The fields just have reduced spatial resolution. And interlacing needs to die just as urgently as low framerate does.

1) Some things aren't actually shot in higher frame rates, they're interpolated, which doesn't always look right

2) Even naturally high frame rate footage will look 'strange' since you're used to low frame rate footage with a lot of blur

3) Current special effects/cgi/editing isn't up to par for high frame rate video. More frames = more information = more likely to see things that look fake, wrong, unrealistic. The Hobbit is a great example of this, simply doubling the frame rate to 48 exposed how far we have to go to make highly edited video look 'natural'

4) Watch something that doesn't rely on special effects in high frame rate (like non-interpolated sports), once you get past the initial 'weirdness', going back to normal frame rate video will look blurry.

>why ever progress technology

>comparing sports to cinema

Imbecile.

>missing the point this hard

>comparing sports to cinema
>le "you just aren't used to it" meme

...

literally no observable difference. Total placebo

>this thread again

Billy Lynn is available in 60 fps on Blu-Ray, there's a 4K 60 fps torrent available if you're a poorfag.

youtube.com/watch?v=x091jfFFe9g

Advantages:
- the close-ups look really good and the added fine muscle movements convey emotion better
- shaky-cam looks great
- many fine details stand out (like the guy getting destroyed by the machinegun or the dust kicked by the RPGs)

youtube.com/watch?v=x091jfFFe9g

>literally no observable difference

Are you viewing that on a potato? lol The 15fps one looks like stop motion.

And the disadvantages? Too many to list?

>pretending you can tell the difference
wow you're the most unique person on the internet, congrats

HFR looks weird when coupled with CGI, it would only look normal on films with real props and sets, most films of today dont however

>playing at being a moron

Your hardware must be shitty as hell. Running your potato at 30hz?

You need to go see a doctor
Some people literally can't see the difference due to minor diseases with either their eyes or brains.

Then why you playing me?

yes because paintings that are photorealistic are definitely better than the works of the masters

Got a name for said disease? Genuinely interested.

You get used to it quickly. It's spectacular in the army and dialogue scenes.

Unlike The Hobbit, they don't use make-up and prosthetics so the actors don't look weird (you could clearly see Gandalf's blue lenses, for example). They're also lighting it better than The Hobbit.

The problem with Billy Lynn is that the stadium field scenes are contrieved, you never get the feeling it's real, and especially in high framerate it feels fake as fuck until the pyrotechnics start (they are dazzling and will distract you from the weird set).

As a side note, CGI looked better in The Hobbit in HFR. The creatures actually had weight. There's more visual information which makes CGI more realistic. Those almost perceptible muscle movements trick your brain into feeling more weight in CGI and it sells human emotions better.

>people actually fell for this 0/10 bait
jesus christ

>I was only trolling.

Sure thing, kid.

I don't have one at hand, one of my friends has a minor phoria you wouldn't see unless you are told about it and he can neither see 3d nor any difference between 60 and 30 fps.
He's in training as an optician, and according to him there are several diseaes that can cause inability to see those things.
