It's kind of unbelievable that a film with a narrative like that was written, directed and produced by a bunch of middle aged men with families and multiple kids.
I mean think about it, most people at that age today are just now figuring out how Facebook works, while is not just "relevant", it's ahead of being relevant.

It's kind of unbelievable that people think this movie presented a single new sci-fi idea.

It's kind of unbelievable that people think this movie presented an idea.

YOU
ARE NOT
SPECIAL

It's kind of unbelievable that people think

You're under 20, aren't you?

23 my dear friend

Facebook is made by and owned by
>a bunch of middle aged men with families and multiple kids
They were young people with new ideas at the same fucking time period

who else was gonna write it? a bunch of dumbass kids?

You're probably a manchild then. No cure as far as I know.

I was just surprised because today most Hollywood films are made by out of touch studio executives who shove extremely cringy pop culture references, hashtag twitter jokes or popular app notifications in the film so the average millenial goes "oh I recognise that!"

It's kind of unbelievable that people

...

Not trying to sound deep or anything, but who exactly was in control here?

my dick is suddenly merging with my hand lads

k

What's the source on these screens? Only versions I've seen uploaded are shitty potato cams

Also, 1960s housewife joi is best waifu

villeneuve doesn't give a fuck about plebs, he's aware that only real human beans understand this kino

It's kind of unbelievable that Blade Runner writer came back.

do you feel in charge?

the guy who wrote the film's screenplay was the same person who wrote the first film's screenplay, not a bunch of middle-aged marketers from Warner Bros trying to sell the latest horror/comedy flick.

wasn't it all basically written by Hampton Fancher? With some help later on from Michael Green? IIRC Fancher had the idea for the story for this movie since the 1980's

What is so revolutionary about it? Most if not all of its themes have been explored in science-fiction before in some way.

Plebs think BR2049 is a sequel to Blade Runner
Patricians know it's actually a sequel to Drive

who's saying it's revolutionary?

my dick

No one said "revolutionary", I just admire the tasteful execution of that concept.
A threesome sex scene with a replicant, aprostitute and a hologram waifu probably sounds pretty damn cringy on paper and could've ended up being completely cheesy and laughable, but it was genuinely emotionally investing and moving and one of the best scenes in the entire film. I never felt anything like that in a film like Her for example, which has a similar concept like that.

What movie is this from?

OP when he claimed it was "ahead of being relevant" and when he seemed surprised about it being written by middle aged men with families when the same themes have been explored in kther media that was also written mosy by middle aged men with families.

I don't think anyone said it was revolutionary, nor do I think a movie needs to be revolutionary to be good.

That said, while I do like it, it had its flaws. I didn't like the "replicant resistance" stuff being oddly shoehorned in at the end. I didn't like how they had to force Deckard (and Rachael) back into the focus of the story. I think that harmed the narrative overall, but I get that they pretty much had to do it because no one would greenlight it without Harrison Ford and all the fans would automatically reject it without seeing it if it didn't have Deckard.

>could've ended up being completely cheesy and laughable
Haha yeah good thing it didn't turn out that way at all

Dare I ask, what movie is this?

I gotta be honest here, while I liked all the stuff about Joi just fine it was by no means my favourite part of the movie or even what I'd consider the most memorable one. The scene with the prostitute and the scene where Luv destroyed her projector were both very good, very emotionally resonant scenes but otherwise that subplot wasn't quite what stuck with me the most.

The movie Her did basically the same thing with the prostitute

Blade Runner 2049

Drive 2

Should I watch the new blade runner? I haven't watched any of them and know very little of them.

And no one ever talks about that scene when talking about Her because it was executed quite bland and standard considering what it is actually portraying.

Drive 2049 when?

How to achieve Drive 2049
step 1: take BR2049
step 2: take out Hans Zimmer OST
step 3: insert Drive OST
step 4: ???
step 5: real human bean and a real hero

This movie is having a weird effect on my family

>dad and bro generally dislike sci-fi
>tell them I liked BR2049 after watching it in theaters alone
>they suddenly want to see because I almost never like movies
>show them BR: Final Cut and they walk out after it ends saying literally "I didn't get it"
>they still go with me to see it BR2049 again
>They both walk out saying it's one of the best movies they've ever seen, my dads crying at the ending
>they start making statements like "its so deep" and "suddenly everything makes sense",
>they just saw it again the other day
>they're rewatching the original and all its various cuts

Watch them both, the first one has one of the most atmospheric settings of all time with a great antagonist, while the second has some really good themes, execution, and a great protagonist.

You should watch both of them, not because you have to watch the original to understand the new one, but because both are extremely good films.

he's been wanting to do this since the first movie. BR and BR2049 are the only big things he's really written

>show them BR: Final Cut

Thanks anons, surely watch both of them.

where's yer mam in all this

>smoking is cool

>one of the main themes of the movie is 2D>3D
>climax and ending sequences play out almost exactly like the climax and ending of Drive

Is Villeneuve dog-whistling to us? Is he /ourguy/?

I loved it.
It's a shame about it flopping though. We're probably not gonna get any more big budget Sci-Fi movies any time soon

>hurr durr why is there smoking in my film noir???
neck yourself, my dude.

Saying nothing about both women's attractiveness or lack of depending on tastes, can you imagine this technology enabling you to dick the two hottest women you can think of at the same time?

Name a single instance in film, where an AI love interest and a real woman are merged with a hologram of the AI waifu superimposed on top.

I think we can all agree that Joi is best girl and that Luvfags are mentally ill masochists and probably enjoy cuckold porn.

Luv is for people that enjoy ball busting and pegging porn.

ball-busting, pegging, and cuckolding all fall into the same basic gestalt, imo. It's all the shit for closeted fags who try to delude themselves into thinking they're not fags.

It is literally much better than the original so their reaction makes sense.

I watched it on Monday and a absolutely loved it. I think about going again, but I'm afraid it will somehow ruin the experience seeing it again that soon, after first watch

get the FUCK out of here with this rebbit shit

I

>insert Drive OST
Jesus christ I was so disappointed by the score of 2049. It's probably impossible to top the music in the original, but it's like they didn't even try.
Besides the horns in the city shots, I don't remember a god damned piece of music.

I watched it twice and I picked out s few details here and there that I didn't notice the first time

her

h1 guise,I am lee7 haxor of teh faCeboOks. No grown ups allowed!

The movie "Her" did the same thing except it wasn't a hologram and the guy didn't get to fuck the chick(s), what's the big deal about this scene? I loved the movie btw, top 5 this decade easily, just didn't this scene was all that special.

>he doesn't remember Sea Wall
>he doesn't remember Joi's theme

Same

Such a shame we didn't get Johannson's score as it was intended at first, don't think it would've been better than Vangelis' but it would've been better than Zimmer's for sure.

It felt like they asked Zimmer to try and copy Vangelis. Why didn't they just get vangelis in the first place?

>It's the first time a scene like this, where a threesome is shown by having a hologram overlap a physical person, has been done (to my current knowledge)
>No one in the scene was human
>It was tastefully done; not showing Joi naked here further contradicts the pink Joi later on, who is shown fully nude with black, soulless eyes
Just my take

The score we got sounds exactly like something Johannson would do. Actually it would be even more "atmospheric" and one note without much work in the arrangement and composition department.
To be honest Johannsson is a bit of a glorified sound designer. And that works for certain films, but not for Blade Runner and I see why would Villeneuve call Wallfisch and Zimmer instead.

>It felt like they asked Zimmer to try and copy Vangelis
How? It had zero "80s" sound in it. The original is melancholic and dreamy, while this is industrial, unsettling and distorted. They are both entirely standalone soundtrack that perfectly support the narrative of the film only connected with each ohter by a few motifs in the arrangements.

>Why didn't they just get vangelis in the first place?
Because Vangelis is now a 74 year old fuck who didn’t make anything relevant in a decade or two, besides his Rosetta album that just sounds like Vangelis didn’t do anything new since the 80s.
At best he would make a forgettable soundtrack that tries to hard to be like the original just like Williams did that for TFA.

I don't recall the music of either film particularly well, but I remember feeling like the first Blade Runner's score made the movie feel dated distinctly like an 80's flick. In 2049 the music is more atmospheric, sometimes with 80's synth melodies in reference to the original, but usually just there to enhance the feeling of the scene. Neither film has memorable music, but in 2049 it compliments the movie better

Mustve missed the scene where his OS appears as a hologram and then "syncs" with the hooker's movements during coitus.

>really depressed that I couldn't find the time to go see this in theaters due to scheduling and health and that I complain about no one seeing it while simultaneously being part of said problem
>assume it's out of theaters by now
>check
>it's still playing for at least another week
This is it bros... I'm gonna do it... I won't be left behind again...

The average middle age man loves technology, what are you taking about?

You better hurry
>convinced brother to see it with me tomorrow
It'll be my 5th and probably last viewing, I'm going to enjoy the fuck out of it

Go see it man, it's worth it

MONTY PYTHON'S FLYING CIRCUS

Seriously? The mandarin cam rip looks like this and we get some dumb beaner filming with a flip phone who somehow leaves out 30 min of footage.

Isn't it from a promotional video ?

>being this much of a brainlet

everything in the movie was ambiguous, and yet it was done with no moral relativism
the idea was the uncertainty of how genuine you, your feelings, ideas, or love are
at the end good joe realized that it shouldn't mean that he should stop striving, and just try to do the best he can

in the end the main beauty was exactly in this ambiguity, and the struggle despite it

this movie will be seen as the beginning of a new movement, that will end post modernism once and for all

I will attempt to describe you based on these words alone. You're a Millennial, around 21 years old, male. You never particularly stood out, it's a miracle you haven't been bullied in school more. You believe yourself to be of above average intelligence, and you never had to really work for your grades. This perhaps made you work less than you should have, so you haven't been able to achieve anything of great importance. You've discovered Sup Forums in about 2011, and stayed ever since. You know a couple people, but you fear you might be becoming more of an r9k recluse. Thankfully you're not a kissless hugless virgin, but you completely deny being a normie. You spend most of your free time shitposting, or playing video games. Movies are only an excuse for you to post memes, you don't take them seriously. Your next words will be "stop projecting".

It speaks to men over 30 in a way kino rarely does, treating the challenges men face in searching for simple authentic love while remaining cold, robotic, and disposable as completely legitimate and not some feminist-friendly fodder for comedy. Cells.

nice stop projecting dubs

stop projecting... NANI

Mackenzie has better genetics than Ana. that's normal

Sea Wall was good but it wasn't really "music" so much as it was really intense ambient sounds that fit what was going on. The rest was mostly unmemorable. Really wish they got Vangelis back to do this.
