ITT, fuck you I liked it. Is there any real reason to legit hate it besides Robert Englund not being Freddy?

The parts they redid are pretty bad. The cgi was awful. Freddy also looks stupid. I know they were going for a realistic look, but it doesn't work. I like the second half though. The micro nap concept was cool.

The blonde's death is just her being bounced about the room comedically and then one slash basically bloodless to the chest.

Horrible.

>redditshit logic: I like this piece of crap therefore it can't be crap

Fright Night (2011)

The movie would have been great if they had kept in the subplot that Freddy was still alive, just in a coma, and had actually had him be innocent.

I've never actually watched it, so it must be shit

This is probably my favorite Friday film that isn't something ridiculous like the later ones.

Not my favorite friday film but it was quite comfy indeed, I liked it

I haven't heard of this coma subplot. Can you explain it?

>horrible CGI
>teen characters with the personalities of bricks when past Elm Street kids have usually been pretty distinct
>handling the pedoshit plot without any subtly and basically turning Freddy into a molester for shock value
>not letting Rorschach do his own thing with Freddy until the last 20 minutes and keeping him as a boring bland ooga booga monster through 95% of the movie
It isn't the worst horror remake though. Fright Night, The Thing and Zombie's Halloween movies are much worse.

IIRC Freddy was put into a coma following the attack and that's why he had so much control over the dreamworld. He dies for real at the start of the film and thus is able to start his attack.

The way they played with being a pseudo sequel and the whole mother angle was quite nice.

They also fucked up by cutting the alternate ending with Nancy beating the shit out of him. I don't think it alone would have saved the movie but it would've helped.

I would have been down with that. Wonder why they scrapped the idea.

I actually really liked the opening to this. Kind of got me psyched that we were going to see a stealth remake to the first one.

The acting is fucking APPALLING .
I honestly thought I was watching the porn parody at first.

I hated it. I can't even remember why because it's been so long. It was like Halloween 2 remake, so bad that I purged it from my brain and never looked back. I should probably watch both again to see if I feel any different.

I don't either. They cut out much that would have given the movie any bite. Like this The ending they did go with was incoherent.

Anyone wanna steam it?

I don't get this meme. Halloween 2 is a piece of shit, but the first one is alright. Not perfect, but alright.

The first remake is a character piece that has too much fat without really actually digging into the character the 2 hour movie is supposedly about.

We spend an entire hour with kid Michael and it's a waste of time since it still skips over his treatment.

I said Halloween 2 remake, not the first one. I actually though the first one was alright--although I admit I like it less every time I watch it. The typical Rob Zombie dialogue grates on me over time, just people swearing at each other in ways that aren't clever and are, if anything, cringy and awkward. If House of 1000 Corpses didn't have such a great production design, the dialogue would kill that one for me too.

>Is there any real reason to legit hate it
it was terrible, they ditched the campiness of the original series for spoopy seriousness that didn't work

it wasn't awful, but it wasn't what a reboot of this series needed

>terrible
>not awful

pick one dude

this is a good platinum dunes remakes
OP's is a bad one

>original elm streets
>campy
The first and third movies aren't campy, and neither is New Nightmare.

yes they are

there is something from go that made the series an enduring icon of the 80's & 90's despite being what it is about

>Fright Night
>bad
Pick one faggot

>The Thing

That wasn't that bad. The climax at the ship was just shit but the rest has some good stuff.

The remake was terrible, the original was pure 80s goodness

How a child killer became a American Icon?

I actually thought Jackie Earle Haley was a brilliant cast, too bad the movie sucked.

He was decent enough, still nowhere near Englund.

I'm currently watching through all of the Nightmare movies. I'm only on number 2, though. It's really, really bad, so the remake will have to work hard to be worse. I hope 3 and on are better.

fun fact: all the school scenes were filmed at my highschool

>2
>bad

It's hilariously brilliant

It's kind of funny how gay it is, but that's all.

fun fact: ur a fagget

Which is the entire point. The screenwriter was gay and wrote it as an allegory for the fear of dealing with the doubts of sexuality.

The director was just an idiot who ended up making all of that go from subtext to overtext.

it was boring and the deaths were uncreative

This desu, he was wasted on this piece of shit. It's sad that people want to hate on it just because Robert isn't in it when Jackie was very good in his own right.

They should have just done Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash. I don't know why they hate money so much.

Licensing rights.

I was with it, especially when they were teasing his innocence. I thought that'd be a really cool twist on Freddy. Then they lolnoped that AND made him a diddler, which OG Freddy explicitly wasn't.

From what I've read, it was moving forward at one point and a script was written out. Raimi and Campbell were on board. It came to a halt because New Line Cinema didn't want either Freddy or Jason to lose, as they expected to continue the franchises after the movie was done, and the script had Ash as the clear winner. So while they were arguing about it the project fell through.

It was but one of the many pitches for FvsJ, though. But it was arguably the best one

it was SHIT. their nightmares were shit and felt empty. all the good nightmare on elm street movies had cool nightmares that were all like a personal hell to the dreamer. i cant even remember any of the dreams in this one.

>which OG Freddy explicitly wasn't.
He was written as one according to Wes Craven and Robert Englund, it just wasn't overt because there was a big pedo case in the news during the 80s when the first movie was being written and they didn't want to be accused of exploiting it.

But even then, watch the original movies again; Freddy is pretty pedo, especially in the opening of Freddy VS Jason and with the way he interacts with the female characters in the series. It's creepy in a subtle way which is all you really need to be when it comes to a movie like this, which is why the remake failed with it.

Zombie's Halloween movies have a fun sort of mondo schlock value to them thanks to Zombie's distinctive and generally enjoyable style. They're nowhere near as good as the originals, but they're not unwatchable.

There was a fansite somewhere with a bunch of proposed scripts as well as the final one. Some of them are really, REALLY awful, if I remember.
