/hor/ Horror General

didn't see one in the catalog

Thanks op your a good person
Also I think pic related is one of the greatest actors of all time

found this really underwhelming. cool setpieces and effects, but I don't think this is as revolutionary as people on the internet seem to claim it is.

Last horror movie i was was GET OUT. Not bad.

was definitely interesting but over hyped as a horror movie

Did anyone hear about the movie Max Landis pitched with Freddy, Jason, Michael and Chucky all teaming up to fight Pinhead?
Would you watch this?
I mean I'd watch the shit out of it but I don't know if it would be good...

Yeah though i understand why. No one fucking expected one of the guys from Key & Peele to make a decent horror movie aimed mostly at black people. Most of us expected a Madea movie or some shit.

Very true. I came in on the tail end of the hype so I missed the madea shit and heard more of "guyz greatest horror movie ever :DDDDDD" so I definitely should have tempered my expectations. Overall solid though

>over hyped as a horror movie
totally. I mean, 7.7 on imdb? really? movie is like 30 minutes too long and only has a half decent third act. I guess every numale gave it a 10 just to virtue signal, essentially becoming the character the movie wants to parody.

you missed the race-bait threads. lucky you

Rewatched the GOAT and favorite film as a teen on Halloween night, first time in years.
Was almost like seeing it for the first time all over again. What an excellent day for a kino.

Can it ever be topped?

not him but kek, never thought of it that way. I think I actually enjoy it more knowing that.

In my opinion? No. There is no more primal fear than the fear of the devil and it possessing and corrupting the most innocent child is a disturbing thought. Add to that a great script, fantastic directing and great acting there's no way anyone can compete.

You know what i like about it the most? The lack of ambient music or sounds. When you're watching it it's like you're right there in the room watching that shit. It's what makes it disturbing for me. They also cut away in weird ways most of the time, like, scenes end abruptly (like many 70s movies did) and that also adds to the dread of watching it.

I do have to admit that watching it when i was 11 was a completely different experience. It should be mandatory for every 10 year old to watch this.

I was terrified of it before I even saw it. I saw a picture of Regan in one of my brother's Empire magazines as a kid and lost sleep for months. I was a huge pussy. He had it lying around on video and when I finally mustered up the balls to watch it I loved it, ended up watching it to death.

One of my favorite things about the whole film is how all the scary and unnatural things you see take place in Regan's room and Regan's room only. No scene ever starts in the room, the camera always follows another character as they enter. Really gives that feeling of fear and "being there" with the characters, you never know what you're gonna get until you're actually in the room with her.

*except for the spider walk scene of course

There's a horror channel on the trees network that usually has something decent on. You can recommend stuff too, I've seen a lot of obscure stuff there I probably wouldn't have seen otherwise. Just figured I'd mention it since theres usually only about 10 people watching

And that's why it was cut from the movie. It happened too early in the movie to break that rule

You could subtlely remake this movie without remaking it since the author of the book stole plot elements from a 1962 novel called 'The Case Against Satan'.

> Teenager Susan Garth was “a clean-talking sweet little girl” of high school age before she started having “fits”—a sudden aversion to churches and a newfound fondness for vulgarity. Then one night, she strips in front of the parish priest and sinks her nails into his throat. If not madness, then the answer must be demonic possession. To vanquish the Devil, Bishop Crimmings recruits Father Gregory Sargent, a younger priest with a taste for modern ideas and brandy. As the two men fight not just the darkness tormenting Susan but also one another, a soul-chilling revelation lurks in the shadows—one that knows that the darkest evil goes by many names.

My first online purchase was a copy of Dr. Phibes.
I never got it.

sorry to hear that user

Gladly i saw that only years later.

Strangely enough, I think it's one of the only Friedkin films I've seen that DOESN'T end in a horribly bleak manner. Good finally triumphs over evil and it's neatly wrapped up.

Wait, Get Out wasn't a Madea movie? Are you sure?

rewatched this for the first time in 10+ years

I actually hated it this time around
other than Jim Siedow giving the best performance ever, this felt really off the mark
I get Hooper wanted to make a black comedy, and that could work, but this just isn't funny or interesting to me
I remember Chop-Top being hilarious when I watched this as a kid, but now all I see is Mike Matei from the AVGN episode
Leatherface is terrible, his mask looks like a $2 halloween prop from a post office
I do kinda hate how they took the best scene from the original film and turned it into a running gag, again I understand the point was to subvert expectations and whatever, but it just feels like it missed the mark of being funny/satirical/self-depreciating completely

and they got Tom Savini on board, for what? about as much gore and effects as the last film?
not one cool looking practical effect in the whole film
I read there's a whole deleted scene filled with effects Savini made that was cut for some reason or another, oh well

More reason to hate the Exorcist III, despite many people calling it good.

also has Dennis Hopper being a fucking madman which I'm always down with, but yeah, it's far from the hidden gem of a sequel that some people make it out to be, but I think it's at least worth watching to see what you make of it.

agreed

this is one of those few movie with one good porn parody

the quality trivia I come to Sup Forums for
what's it called

And a good comedy parody.

>Linda Blair

Say whaaaaaaaaa...

Exorcist 3 isn't the greatest thing ever, but it's a damn good sequel all things considered. Getting the same guy to make a sequel to his masterpiece 20 years later even after Exorcist 2 happened, don't see that every day. Brad Dourif owned this movie. It's slowburn kino.

Idle Hands and The Faculty were surprisingly fun.

>Exorcist 2
what is this movie even like? it's been trashed so heavily that I've never bothered to look into it. even on a board of contrarians I don't think I've ever even seen a defense of it.

>what is this movie even like?
It's awful. It's completely, and i mean this, COMPLETELY different from the original. It feels like the script was improvised in one afternoon and the entire movie was shot in one week. It's nothing but a cash-grab and one of the worst anythings ever made.

Go watch the trailer. That's all you'll need to see.

what is she doing?

this weird ass take on the original soundtrack is fucking ridiculous. I would be temped to watch it but nearly 2 hours seems like too much time to spend on it.

will you accept my love today?

Weirdest Christmas ever.

Don't. It adds nothing and it will leave you either scratching your head in confusion or angered at yourself for watching it.

Recently decided it was time I stopped watching shitty horror movies and finally watched An American Werewolf in London, The Howling and The Thing. They were all pretty good. I also watched Return to House on Haunted Hill which was even worse than I expected

have you seen Ginger Snaps yet?

qtest werewolf movie

just got done watching the ring (2002)for the first time holy shit! so fucking good!
is the book still worth a read if i seen the american version? i might read before i watch ring (1998)

I've seen the first two at least twice but never the third one

I'm guessing you're closer to 20 than 30? I'm the latter, and yeah it's a great film. Love the atmosphere.

i am turning 22 this December and yes the film has amazing atmosphere!

I'm desensitized to most horror themes and can't find anything that actually scares me (outside of natural jump-scare reflexes)

Sinister was great
The Babadook was just okay
21 Days Later is my favorite

any recs?

>Sinister was great
Good god man

Crawling out of my dreams and into my pants.

>Sinister was great
Good soundtrack, but a stale as fuck studio flick

remeber freddie prinze jr?

>it's only a general because of october
>still fucking making them in november
Make a thread about the film you want to talk about. Stop sub-dividing the board. This bullshit killed Sup Forums.

I have fond memories of I Know What You Did Last Summer.
It was the first horror movie I ever rented and watched back when I was about 7 years old.
After that mom would let me rent horror movies every friday, watched most of the 80s classic and shit that way.
I was scared shitless watching it alone
>tfw you'll never be a little boy again scared af of any horror movie even slashers

are we even sure the demon was defeated? i mean it just changed the host, he was never exorcised.

I remember my friend's sister was watching the Halloween movies and so we went down to watch. He ended up leaving, but I stayed there. Wasn't scared at the time, but holy fuck was I terrified in the dark after that.

Is it any good?

Has any horror protagonist ever been as dumb and learned so little as Pet Semetary's?

Not really horror but watched this for the first time in a decade and a half and gained a whole new appreciation for it.

I think I didn't like it as much when I was younger because I felt that I had heard all of the jokes before. Then I realized it invented those jokes and did them better than imitators.

The way it paid loving homage to classic Universal Films was amazing and the way Brooks shot the damn thing with older equipment was even better.

It was probably Mel Brooks' best film, not his funniest, that was Blazing Saddles. I also kept noticing stuff I never noticed before. Two cast members from Malcolm in the Middle and Gene Hackman as the blind hermit in particular.

It was also, imho, Gene Wilder's best role and he's had several good ones.

hey yeah i've read all the books and really enjoyed them- yet 2 see any of the films tho, love Naomi watts so definitely need to catch it hehe

Am I the only one who finds this movie really comfy? I like movies about an isolated place where the location doesn't change too much. I also thought the cast was spot on.

>Knowles claims that at his third birthday party, he was treated to a visit from the entire cast of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.
>Knowles retains extremely detailed, happy memories of the event, including being given a basket full of dismembered body part props from Gunnar Hansen (the actor who played Leatherface), as well as cutting his birthday cake with the actual chainsaw used in the film.
>Hansen, however, adamantly denied that any of this ever occurred.
