Frodo- will be a white male Sam- Will be transgender Pipen x Mary finally confirmed Gandalf- will be Asian asexual. Aragorn- will be a black Kang Legolas- Will look exactly the same. Grimly-Will be played by Peter Dinklage
>make a TV series after they were already made into a highly successful movie franchise
Its supposed to go the other way around isnt it
Aiden Ward
If the Tolkien Estate is involved, none of that is going to happen.
The only way Christopher Tolkien is going to let anyone near any of the rights he still has control of is if he's convinced it's going to be faithful enough to satisfy him. That means far more faithful than the movies, not less so. I can't see it happening without the Estate retaining a significant measure of creative control along similar lines to Rowling with Harry Potter and Martin with Game of Thrones.
Jaxson Harris
Movies to TV used to be the norm, actually.
The original Planet of the Apes series spawned a TV series (complete with Roddy McDowell) after the last film. It only lasted 14 episodes.
The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles was rather more successful (lasting 3 seasons).
Even Star Wars had the Clone Wars animated TV series.
Those were all spinoffs, of course, but reboots/remakes happen, too. For instance, several of Agatha Christie's mystery stories were made into successful Hollywood films long before Poirot and Miss Marple each got long-running TV series of their own (Miss Marple has actually had a couple ones, but the 1984-92 series with Joan Hickson was the better one).
In fact, before Star Trek, it was practically unheard-of to make a movie out of a TV series.
Ayden Gonzalez
tolkien's already rolling in his grave over the shadow of mordor games, i'm sure. or legolas' strong female independent elf who dont need no man OC Donut Steel, or god knows what else
Alexander Cook
everyone will be of color and lgbt
sauron and saruman will be white and blonde as to symbolize patriarchy and white privilege
goblins and orcs will look like red necks
Asher Long
There is nothing wrong with having a diverse cast for Lord of the Rings people from all over the world, of every race and ethnicity, love this series they should be represented too
Aiden Ross
Somehow I thought this was announced back when HBO announced they were doing Watchmen.
Ayden Carter
If he opposes to the project there's going to be a lawsuit like for the video games and card games. WB will win.
But it would not be in their interest to do so. WB knows that the fans won't like anything OOC. So Tolkien and Warner better find someone who lives and breath LOTR to take care of the project and make both parties happy.
Christopher Phillips
what's the best way to achieve sexual tensions in the party? make legolas a woman. or make both legolas and gimley gay
Kayden Perry
>WB knows that the fans won't like anything OOC. Then why are all their videogames so successful?
Gavin Perez
How many actual confirmed trannys have there even been in mainstream big budget tv and film?
Ryan Johnson
Finally, someone with a brain.
Benjamin Ortiz
WTF THIS IS LITERALLY WHITE GENOCIDE REEEEEEEEEEEE
Anthony Wright
As much as I hate the idea of this TV series, you people need to take a chill pill. It's only your hyper-sensitive paranoia that's been creating this SJW-LotR scenario. There is zero indication that it could be anything like that.
Liam Williams
>Tolkien estate and based Christopher is involved no niggers confirmed
Cameron Cruz
>Martin with Game of Thrones.
Leo Johnson
They love it because of the characters and the story, so why the fuck would you want to change them?
Xavier Kelly
April O'Neil was turned into a sheboon just this week
Christian Barnes
The only successful fantasy drama is full-on YASS QUEEN SLAAYYYYY and you want me to believe this LOTR adaptation won't be cucked?
Jordan Adams
FUCK YOU YOU FUCKING WALKING TALKING BAG OF ANIMATED GOAT SHIT. I WILL GUT YOU AND YOUR ENTURE BLOODLINE. I WILL FUCK YOU SO HARD YOUR DESCENDANTS WILL SHIT FROM THEIR MOUTHS.
Henry Gray
>But it would not be in their interest to do so. WB knows that the fans won't like anything OOC. So Tolkien and Warner better find someone who lives and breath LOTR to take care of the project and make both parties happy. If they want to net the highest return they will. How do you think we ended up with that infamous scene in the Hobbit films. If they want to net the highest return and please the fans, a bit of modern inclusion will be needed as with got.
Aiden Flores
The main orc bad guy in the Hobbit movies was white, they added minority extras to the movie and shoehorned in a need-no-man elvish womyn warrior that almost race-mixed with a dwarf. So I could see all of that happening.
Blake Morgan
wrong
Justin White
Groundbreaking rebuttal. See you in the TV pilot threads!
Austin King
This. Kill yourself
Joseph Cox
Because it's to play that, The Last Days mod for M&B or LOTR Online.
Also they might have the monopoly on LOTR but i'm sure putting up trash will hurt the critics and thus the sales. Plus if you alienate your targeted audience before they even see a minute of the product... that's no good.
Michael Martinez
>grimly
Matthew Morris
>Grimly
Adrian Cooper
>forcing ""modern inclusion"" Is exactly what's ruining everything these days. It's looks forced and defiles the original content
Jackson Johnson
New trend is movie to tv. Lethal weapon. Fargo. Scream. Theres tons more examples
Asher Cook
well these talks will probably amount to nothing, so no you won't.
Adrian Ortiz
Copy and pasted my post from the other thread
>They could make a decent show about the fracturing of Arnor into seperate warring kingdoms, with the Witch King of Angmar being the big bad antagonist pulling the strings.
>It's not high-fantasy like a lot of the Silmarrilion, it's based on men so they wouldn't need to worry about prosthetics and scale issues with dwarves and hobbits (although a few episodes showing Rangers protecting the shire would be great).
>Also, it's a fairly blank slate as far as narrative, and I hate blackwashing and stronk females as much as the next guy, but it's gonna happen and it would make sense in a decaying kingdom to have degeneracy like multiculturalism and feminism seeping in.
Thoughts? I figure it provides a bit of a sandbox for the tv peeps to make their GOT clone fanwank while leaving the movies and most of the lore alone.
Adam Cruz
Aww, is the little stormweenie mad that other races of people want to play dungeons and dragons too? Sorry, but in the grown up world we have things called cooperation and acceptance. Look them up and maybe try taking a cyanide pill after to calm your nerves
Levi Jenkins
>If he opposes to the project there's going to be a lawsuit like for the video games and card games. Not necessarily. IP law is pretty complicated, and TV and movie rights are different animals. I would argue that if the Estate is involved, it's because they want to do something that they NEED the Estate for.
For the same reason that a lot of people who don't give a shit about the Star Wars EU (or the Prequels, or Disney SW) still play the SW video games.
Martin has a significant level of creative control of GoT (he's an Executive Producer, FFS). How he chooses to exercise it is a separate issue. That GoT has increasingly deviated from the source books is because by Martin's own intent.
John Sullivan
But should that be grounds to deny it altogether? What if the characters are good and mesh with the world just as well? Will you deny it because of the modern cultural climate?
Grayson Ward
>What if the characters are good and mesh with the world just as well? they won't. Objectively
Oliver Morales
Nah, there's not enough scale to it if you limit yourself to Armor. LOTR has always been about grandeur. They won't pass up the opportunity of showing off and expanding Middle Earth for sure.
Luke Rodriguez
I read this as lord of the flies and got kind of excited for a minute. I don't know why. I didn't really care for the book or either movie in school. I guess I just want a good rock head crush scene. It is a really neat concept, a civilization of kids; does anyone remember that survivor style show about that? Had one season maybe two. All aged kids in a desert town with jobs and stuff. Any way aside from it being spammed here non stop I plan on ignoring this lord of things reboot or whatever entirely. Hobbit movies sucked, this will suck. The trilogy captured something special and it won't come closer to happening again. Just ignore it.
Joshua Wright
Isn't that a bit cynical? Shouldn't we unflinchingly uphold media to the standards we set and always expect the best of them? The original trilogy was amazing after all.
Josiah Morgan
Arnor was a large kingdom encompassing many cities though.
Plus you could show other northern regions
>Shire >Mirkwood (encompassing Dol Guldur and Woodland Realm) >Rivendell >Lake Town >Dale and Lonely Mountain (pre-Smaug) >A vibrant and prosperous Moria
Alternatively, what about series following the Blue Wizards and there journeys to combat Sauron in the East and South? Then they can shoehorn as many Arabs (Easterlings) and nogs (Haradrim) as they please.
Charles Ortiz
the fucking stars aligned for the trilogy to work like it did, and its perfect casting (ie yeah all the heroes are white men) is a part of that like it or not
William Mitchell
If Hollywood wants to pump out a miniseries that's fantasy and Tolkien-esque and full of minorities then they should just adapt the Earthsea books.
If there is one person, one person at all of color, I will not watch it.
Lucas Jackson
Are you not looking forward to the wise person who is played by a popular Chinese actor?
Easton Murphy
it'll just be that same bitch that's in every Legendary movie now, the one that was a scientist in Kong
Ethan James
It's about (((their))) globalist agenda. They want to run a prison planet of border-less, race-less, culture-less, identity-less, subdued sheep. They make up less than 1% of the world's population, yet look at all they control from the world's finances to the media that brainwashes us.
In short, they use the entertainment and news media to encourage globalism and to discourage nationalism and traditional western values. They distort and lie about the past and present in that effort.
Ok. That's a non issue to me. I want a good story with good actors playing the roles well. If they turn out to be white or not should not be a requirement.
Asher Reed
Speaking of, weren't they making a Wheel of Time tv show? I only read the first one but that itself felt like a straight copy paste of plot from LOTR for the most part.
Also, I thought I heard they were making a series based on those Rothfuss fantasy books. I would have thought they would be a perfect blend of GOT/Harry Potter/LOTR for them to bleed dry.
Ian Jones
Holy shit yes
Landon Gomez
Gotta have black extras to play the Southrons/Haradrim.
They did already make an anime of that, IIRC.
Nathaniel Wright
Kek the left has to steal memes.
Andrew Collins
they announce shit all the time. so does President Kim of Best Korea. doesn't mean it's going to happen - it usually means someone got an option to write a treatment and everyone is so starved for news they run it like it's happening.
Hudson Gonzalez
The Crying Game. that's one.
Nathaniel Scott
>They do the Silmarillion >Elleths, elleth feet everywhere >to be a man in Gondolin and sniff the very foundation of white stone
Anthony Baker
Maybe if the tv show/movie is an original idea. Adaptations of literature is fair game.
Easton Jones
>They did already make an anime of that, IIRC. a ghibli movie no less with willem dafoe as the antagonist, i enjoyed it but it was clearly a mess
Oliver Martinez
No please
Oliver Myers
>Gotta have black extras to play the Southrons/Haradrim. Instead of army of the dead Aragorn seeks help by honorable haradrim chieftains. He finds out that they only joined Sauron because of centuries spent as being abused by Gondor. He promises full citizenship to them once the war is over.
Joseph Roberts
So what you're saying is you're fine with cultural appropriation?
Hudson Moore
>Mary Dude are you ok?
Luke Sanchez
pls no
silmarillion would be better for TV anyways why cant they just do that
Nathan Ross
Name recognition? No being able to force recognized characters in likely. Even Galadriel would be a child for most of it.
Julian Hill
>Aragorn- will be a black Kang The Rohirrim will be white just so Eowyn can lust for BBC
Gabriel Clark
...
Cooper Phillips
>name recognition
not a single normal person knew what game of thrones was until it became a tv show
Joshua Watson
There would be heavy emphasis for "multicultural leftie" message.
Lincoln Walker
yes but it's a huge risk for the studio that they'd rather just not take
Justin Hill
Sure they could, but there's no major overarching plot that involves a single cast of characters. Plus it's all mostly elves told from a sort of high and lofty position that the movies never deal with, or they ridicule as seen with the dwarves. I'd love it as an elflover myself, but it might be dry for TV. It's basically like making a series on the bible.
Jason Flores
>Even Galadriel would be a child for most of it. aren't elves born full size already?
Landon Wilson
>making a series on the bible
delet this now before you give anyone ideas
Hudson Walker
>There is zero indication that it could be anything like that. You mean except for the fact that almost every modern sequel/remake/etc. includes lots of forced diversity. You think somehow, out of all the tens (or hundreds?) of projects that wind up brownwashing characters and adding in non-whites for no reason other than diversity, the new LotR will be the *single* project that manages to avoid that?
Sounds naive and statistically very unlikely.
Josiah Adams
>'Lord of the Rings could be the next game of thrones!'
Justin Green
Did Christopher die or something? He wouldn't allow this.
Adrian Morales
I am fine with diversity as long as it makes sense (and Chris Tolkien okays it given that his father's intention was possibly different). There is opportunity for it here as long as it is consistent due to different races involved i.e. all elves white, all Rohan black or whatever (I know Rohan is based on Scandinavia it's just an example), not a mix of everything everywhere e.g. Frodo, Merry, Pippin white and Sam black.
Nathan Brooks
Basically what I was going to say. I'd literally bet on one of the four hobbits being a female (Merry will be Mary screencap this, and probably asian for that matter) and Aragorn will be black
James Brooks
Rohan is more so based on Anglo-Saxons, not Scandis. Look at their helmets too--they look like the Sutton Hoo helmet and other historical representations of Saxon gear.
Christian Rogers
To be honest Gandalf works with any race cause "wise old guy with a beard and magic powers" exists everywhere from subsaharan Africa to China. It wouldn't feel off because we've seen every possible variant of that archetype in movies before.
Samuel Nguyen
i fucking hope they don't dare to change any of the characters or add in characters that didn't exist in the book and the story at that time. no more glorfindel = arwen, and no legolas = female bullshit. no random black person in bree either. for the love of god, if they're gonna do it anyway, be as faithful to the novels as possible. otherwise, down into the trash it goes.
James Lee
Fargo was a shitty movie.
Nathaniel Hill
let's get RADICAL about fighting white supremacy!
James Brown
but how would it be to have a character that is so iconic to suddenly change race. even if it makes sense in the real world? it would fucking piss me off and not just me, i imagine.
Thomas Sanchez
>There is zero indication >literally all of tv past few years >zero indication Why do you libshits always feel the need to pretend you're neutral? Just admit you want whites to be gone
Nathaniel Lewis
Fucking retards. BASED ON. They won't adopt the original cast. Jesus I can't believe how incredibly stupid this board is sometimes.
Ryan Wright
I would prefer Dragonriders of Pern to be honest, it's low fantasy, already has a YASS QUEEN SLAYYY for the retarded crowd (althought contrary to Daenerys, Lessa is a well written heroine and I like her) also the characters apart from Lessa and F'lar aren't given physical descriptions to disern their race so it's pretty much a blank slate
I just love Dragonriders of Pern
Evan Adams
This was inevitable, anyway long an complex stories like LotR can be transposed better in a TV series, that takes all the time to show every detail of the world and the plot, than in a movie or even in a series of movies, that must follow some specific narrative criteria that sometimes can be limitative. Anyway i will predict that this series will have the most multicultural cast of all time, Young Merlin with a black Guinevere will look like a nazi propaganda in comparison.
Carson Hernandez
oh no
Thomas Johnson
The Rohirrim's names are pretty Saxon as well: Eowyn, Theodred, Eomer, and a lot of nouns related to their settlements and culture were closely related to Old English counterparts.
Nathaniel Taylor
plz no. Even as a ashamed fan of even nu-lord of the rings, I don't want a fucking tv series. God damn they can't even wait 20 years to fucking reboot something now.
Juan White
*breathes in*
Jaxon Butler
But Rohan was an explicitely anglo-saxon culture. Don't fucking kid yourself, Tolkien would have absolutely despised seeing his aryan men of the west turned into niggers. In his time whites were not yet brainwashed into race blindness.
Asher Walker
Yeah they'll just have a group of quirky misfit black female lesbian hobbits, elves and an orc go up against a dark lord.
Jonathan Hernandez
no one knew what GOT was until about the Red Wedding and look at it now, also The Silmarillion sure as hell has name recognition atleast a hell lot more that ASoIaF had when it became a TV show
Matthew Baker
>.... Warner Bros CEO Kevin Tsujihara adds to the sentiment. "From a technical point of view, the franchise has aged well. However, we feel like the movies underrepresent a large part of its audience. We're looking to add diversity to cast and character ...
I mean that's canon desu. They were described as being pale or of a sickly color like wax in the books. It was the movies that made them different colors.
