This is why films are generally shit these days, with rushed productions, constant reshoots, script changes, and the effects are always unfinished or worked on until the every last minute.
That's what happens when you decide that appeal to nostalgia is more important than coming up with a story that's engaging on its own merits.

A ship is being boarded by some bad guys, and there's a little girl alien who wants to fight back or something. She (and her mom, maybe?) are from a species that has an attack like a bee stinger, where they'll die if they use it. I think maybe the mom uses it to save her kid?
