Ridley Scott

>Alien would be shit without Geiger
>Blade Runner would be shit without PKD
Hack or fraud?

>post two arguable statements
>ask a question based on those arguable statements
Op is a fag and that is all we can conclude from his post.

>Alien would be shit without Geiger
Ridley Scott is the one who found Giger and wanted his Alien design from the original Necronom IV painting. Ridley's strength wasn't design. His strength was executing ideas on a production set better than anybody else, he was an expert at making things look good on a camera.
>Blade Runner would be shit without PKD
Blade Runner is better than the original novel. It was Scott's production design which made it succeed as opposed to being another generic 80s sci fi movie which most other directors would have turned it into.

I thought Dan O'Bannon brought in Geiger, because they knew each other from working on Jodorowsky's cancelled Dune film.

Dude it's a dick and vagina so scary

i always think that's some pre production sketch from The Fly

...

>huge popular production piece with 100s of people
>it would have been shit without ____

What you are asking is if an apple pie would be an apple pie if you made bread instead?

It's not arguable. Everything memorable about those movies was made by PKD or Geiger. His novel that Ridley Scott "loosly adapted" aka steal a dead man's settings and make itn your own. And honestly Alien would be a forgettable B movie with ridley's shit alien design. Just watch the crap he churns out now. Lucas tier hackery.

>heh lets just post monstrous depictions of necro-birth and face rape and orgiastic deathcult pseudo-egyptian sex magic art heh nothing to see here
Germans are normal and healthy

Half of Alien's reputation comes from its creature

That's only one ingredient.

Damn the xenomorph looks like THAT?

>implying scifi nerds arent scared of the vageen

>DUDE HOOKS FOR ARMS LMFAO

It's a pretty big main ingredient.

>oh sweet PKD just died let's look through his crap for an idea to steal
And that's how blade runner was made.

>Geiger

>Blade Runner is better than the original novel
At least Deckard isn't more incompetent than a stormtrooper in the book

Giger was Swiss you Moron

>it's a Sup Forums doesn't know shit yet again episode

Dick was alive well into the production, had seen footage and very much approved it

It's the meme ingredient. The setting and ambiance is what made the first one so fucking great. It's the alien design that turned the franchise into a fucking meme. "Just put more aylmaos on screen", surely that's what makes these fucking sequels so great.

>Alien without biomechanical Geigerism
They call those b movies

In a way, Scott is the definition of a hack. But he has made some legit good and very good movies, unlike Nolan, Villenueve, Inarritu etc., so he's not in the same league of hackery as those guys.

Ridley's second tier stuff (The Counselor, Kingdom of Heaven) is much better than anything Nolan or Inarritu could even dream of, let alone BR and Alien. But yeah, he's mostly just responsible for the films looking good. They can vary a great deal in most other areas: acting, casting, writing etc. are not consistent in his films.

So yeah, he's kind of a hack, but not the worst kind of hack.

he didn't see through it's entire production and the gutted narrative. Better get rid of Mercerism and Isodore because popcorn swilling theatre fucks who watch scott shit would never understand it.

Would 2001 have been shit without Clarke though?

Nah, Alien is a pretty fuckign good movie, xenomorph or no.

>Blade Runner would be shit without Vangelis or Syd Mead
Fixed it for ya.

Blade Runner has next to nothing to do with the book, at least nothing of what made it so good.

>It's the meme ingredient
It's really fucking not and you've outed yourself a complete idiot. The movie is a complete package and a great deal of its uniqueness and impressive visuals - which are an ingredient in and of themselves towards the atmosphere - are Giger's designs of the alien ship, the jockey, the eggs, the fog and the Alien itself. The creature's freakish appearance is itself an ingredient of the tension, if it was a lesser design, people wouldn't have had such a strong reaction to it. If it weren't for those elements, Alien, or fucking Star Beast, would be remembered as a fairly atmospheric piece of 70s sci fi hampered by some cheesy design choices. Giger's Alien was slick, weird, new and stuck out. It's absolute fucking weirdness, and that of all the alien visuals, are a wonderfully crafted contrast to the human interiors. Giger is a central piece to that movie's legacy. Not THE central piece, because the music, human set design and characters are also central pieces.

>the world is my country
fucking white male imperialists

shut up bigot, it's 1716 and you're on the wrong side of history

what about gladiator? and prometheus was good if you don't consider it to be an alien movie
