Lackadaisy Thread

Why have I never seen a Lackadaisy thread on here?

Not looking hard enough. They're usually only for updates now but they used to come up pretty frequently, particularly leading up to when Tracy tried to get some other authors together for a publishing thing.

I love Lackadaisy. The art is a treat. But it updates so infrequently that I feel there aren't a lot of folks here with much left to discuss.

Thats a bummer. Did she kinda stop updating a frequently or something. I stopped reading for a while. Anything happen?

>Anything happen?

Tracy got a Patreon and quit her day job to focus on the comic and many, many reward drawings every month. There have been some delays to the start of the third volume as she's also working on a bunch of stuff like a card game and other merch. But she's theoretically back to working more on the comic itself. So there may be more theads as a result.

The ones for the last page she posted might still be in the archive if you search for it.

I just checked it out. Wow, good for her! I love seeing communities supporting artists that they love. When did this happen?

Usually Lackadaisy threads don't even last over 50 posts before hitting the bump limit. Probably because there isn't enough waifu/husbandobait for autists to keep the thread bumped over.

I think the real problem is that her work is SO good that even the master shitposters of Sup Forums can't find any fault with it. And, since Sup Forums has no knowledge of how to say positive things, Lackadaisy languishes in silence.

The comics and the side content is a real fucking treat when you first discover it... then you forget about it because updates so rarely.

basically this. lackadaisy doesn't have controversial or pandering content. It's not particularly sexual, it doesn't use anime tropes, and the art is god-tier. there's really nothing to troll about it. You could show up and say that the art is bad, but it clearly isn't so not many people would fall for it. also butler doesn't sit on twitter all day and lord her ego all over or pick fights with fans at cons, so there's no drama.

same reason we never have digger threads, I guess.

Damn son, that really deep. I was super into Homestuck, and that kinda explains why there were so many threads of it.

Cause it was pretty terrible.

>Sup Forums can't find any fault with it.
it is helping create more furries.

I feel like if the releases were more regular after a while there'd be enough buzz for these threads to catch fire.

There are much riper targets for a furry exterminatus than Lackadaisy.

It's a sad fact that webcomic success depends more on regular updates than actual quality.

>Usually Lackadaisy threads don't even last over 50 posts before hitting the bump limit

Then let's try to get this thread going

>What do you think that'll happen next in the story?
>How many more volumes do you think it'll take before the comic ends?
>What kind of ending are you expecting?

It's true, the only thing to shitpost about is that Mrs. Butler's only making $60k yearly from her art, with her skill.

Ivy is so cute. I have waited literally years for more pages where she does cute things with Calvin

...

It's great, my only complaint is that Butler has a massive ladyboner for Mordecai for some reason.

She's adorable when she forces Calvin to do things. Yet there is not a single piece of porn of her an Calvin on the internet. Rule 34 is a lie.

Also, narratively he's one of the few people who interact with a wider array of people and get them to take him more seriously than the Lackadaisy crew on two accounts.
>He's top-tier hitman
>He's got Asa Sweetwaters backing
So he's the vehicle for us to learn more about what the, much stronger, rivals of Lackadaisy are doing

Tracy said years ago that a main character would die at some point. There's also going to be a timeskip into or past the Great Depression. Who knows how long that's going to take.

Well it means success in a lot of different fields. You produce decent quality content regularly? That's a good start, but if you update 3+ times a week, add some pandering and/or shipping and you got you'll get yourself an audience eager to read the latest piece. Things get a bit rabid after that as memes, shipping and intense analysis gain momentum, as is so common with many webcomics these days. Just look at the catalog!

But because Lackadaisy updates much less frequently it misses out on all that. It feels like an older, traditional story told through beautiful anthropomorphic artwork, so it doesn't feel like it's pandering to furies, and is ultimately very similar to Blacksad in that it's a cool comic with style and substance galore.

And as this user said, , there's not enough obvious problems to make constant threads to complain about it, ala Dumbing of Age.

What has happened in the last few chapters?

most of the blacksad threads i go in seem to get deleted.

which sucks because i want to find out what happened to the planned 2016 release of a new book.

Lackadaisy.... it's too good for Sup Forums to help promote it.

Buuuut.... crap that looks like it was drawn by an emo 8th grader---lets get that a million dollars! LOL

She should have made Lackadaisy a contemporary emo drama about high school cats working out their sexual frustrations through social commentary.

Yeah can't find anything online, they're not even selling the french ones (vol 6 & 7 now I think) so they must still be being worked on. Unless someone who can read french or Spanish comes around, we'll be stuck waiting for Dark Horse to give us news on the latest release.

Yeah well that's just Bittersweet Candy Bowl in a nutshell, and we don't need more teen angst on here as it is.

>All my favorite things take years to come out with even the smallest releases

Most things aren't as lucky to get real ending like Samurai Jack. At least I read French so I can pick up the next Blacksad without waiting for a translation

>Yet there is not a single piece of porn of her an Calvin on the internet. Rule 34 is a lie.
Just request some on Caturday next week. We'd love to have some less popular cats requested.

Don't die, thread

Is tracy essentially the female version of those 1950's guys who drew pinup girls?

It's like those other anons said, the series lends itself to neither petty controversy or constant speculation. How is discussion to survive on a forum that moves as quickly as Sup Forums? It'd be better for a comfy message board where you don't have to worry about keeping it bumped I think.

I wish I could say you could just make a weekly thread and either story time or post a bunch of fan art and hope some discussion sparks every once in a while, maybe some new readers are inspired by the threads, but I feel like there isn't even enough content to do that reasonably.

...

I would buy a Zib pinup t b h

Was it autism?

I would bid higher than you. Sorry.

Just caught up with the comic.

This comic is a gold mine off reaction pic.

Not yes.

HELL yes.

Mordecai is like a murderous Richard Ayoade.

Have you seen half the webcomics that get thread here? Sup Forums is furry as hell. It's just too proud to admit it.

i have a vast hoard of autismbux, you cannot defeat me

I just caught up to today.

This comic is a gold mine of reaction pic's.

...

>Tracy said years ago that a main character would die at some point.

It's either gonna be Victor or Mordecai. Victor has the whole "tragic violent man with nothing really left to lose" thing going for him, and Mordecai could probably go out with the whole "classic autistic bad guy has a stroke of kindness at the very and and sacrifices himself for someone else" deal.

Are you questioning his logic?

Daily reminder

gendisasters.com/missouri/11251/st-louis-mo-tornado-destruction-sep-1927

Wick gonna lose he house

Mordecai doesn't seem the type to suddenly develop a conscience. I think he's more likely to get himself killed by going after the wrong person.

if his little sister comes into play I could see it happening

Cute scene

hey
hey friends

we could all come over to Tracy's stream that she's doing right meow.

>No link

>have to be a patreon supporter

twitch

Sorry, no freeloaders allowed. :^)

But really, if you can't watch the patreon stream, you can view the archived version for free sometime later when it's over.

Also I know this probably doesn't need to be said, but be cool, friendos.

>some retard mentions Sup Forums in chat

That's not what "be cool" means.

He left afterwards too. Fucking snitch.

who's the goddamned snitch

plus Tracy doesn't mind too too much so long as it's not a full-blown cock-out raid, which I rightfully doubted the few kind folks here would do.

What a faggot. I don't think he was even a patron so he outed himself too, lmao

Fuck you, Clockwork.

Is that from the stream?

Do you get to make requests of Tracy?

yes and yes, though she just started a new sketch so it will be a little while before you can suggest others.

I'm not a Patreon supporter I found it just fine. Just put Tracy Butler and stream in google. Third link down, after some nice landscape painting stuff. No probalo.

She said she might do some requests later. That was only a little while ago. But I don't think she can see twitch chat. I guess that is just a Patreon thing.

She can very much see twitch chat, broseph. It's just a relatively quiet stream.

And what do I need to spend to get this?

Is it at the $10 level?

What do you get at each level?

Like, what level do I get her to make drawings I want guaranteed?

$5 to get the scheduled announcement for the stream

$20 to receive a custom digital doodle emailed to you

and $50 to get a 9x6" drawing physically mailed to you

but you can just suggest stuff in twitch chat anyways and if it's entertaining enough she'll probably do it

I'm largely paraphrasing from her Patreon btw, here you can read it from the horse's mouth
patreon.com/lackadaisy

I can't overstate how much I love this art style.

>patreon.com/lackadaisy
oh boy, I just remembered
>Pledge $50 or more per month
>9 of 10 patrons
I don't need it. I don't need it.

>tfw there's actually a decent discussion about one of the best webcomics out there on Sup Forums

Be still my heart

I miss cute and naive Freckles.

Pretty soon he's going to be a maniacal killer.

>that foreshadowing with the crack in the mirror

>Favorite webcomic
>Peace and silence
>But also great discussions
>No faggots(excluding that one guy)
Is this Bizarro Sup Forums?

LOL. I am considering getting this. If for no other reason, to make her draw more like this.

I need more sexy out-of-era Lackadaisy girls in my life.

Hey, not to jack each and every one of you off (excluding that one guy, of course) but Sup Forums really is a chill board once you get out of the gravity well of the mega-cancerous generals and image dump (cosplay/cheesecake/THICC) threads.

Sup Forums is love

oh fuck I didn't even make that connection

This style is just begging to be animated.

I was thinking of maybe requesting Cowboy Rocky and Samurai Freckle, but I'm way too strapped for cash.

Oh hell yes. There simply aren't enough cartoonists of this calibur left.

Scary Freckle best Freckle.

I know there were rumblings about this previously. I think her publisher was really pushing to get something going, but that was back when Tracy was a full time game developer, and I don't think they ever got the deal they wanted. I heard from a women who works at the publishing company that it got shopped around studios a few year back and they all wanted to either make it kiddie, with a catnip bar and water guns, or just make low-budget 3D indie using the same animation style as the old, old Clone Wars cgi movie from years ago. Both Tracy and her publisher gave those a hard pass.

>with a catnip bar and water guns

Goddamn, would that have fucking sucked

>they all wanted to either make it kiddie
Ugh, please no.
>or just make low-budget 3D indie
Good God that's even worse. Way worse!

What a cruel world. This is exactly what I was endlessly bitching and bemoaning in that animated films thread a little while ago. Great on them for just letting those stinkers slide right on by. Man, I really hope the right opportunity comes along though.

What does she want? Traditional animation?

Those days are mostly long gone and I doubt she and her publisher would have the money for that.

>Traditional animation?
>Those days are mostly long gone
Yeah. The only country I know of that still does traditional animations is France. Shame to see it fade away over the years everywhere else, but hey, what can you do?

I think what she wants is either a faithful and non-garbage adaptation of her IP, or nothing at all

A lovely Netflix series on a good budget, with effective marketing, a loose leash and good quality 2D animation on Tracy designed models.

Now all I need is the magic lamp and we're good as gold.

This is such a bummer.

Who is "that one guy"?

...

Clockwork Snail, the one who tried to tattle on Sup Forums for watching one of her streams

oh, did she kick you guys out or something?

Also, I know it probably won't happen, but yes yes yes, i want an animated series for Lackadaisy. Just to see the characters animated would be awesome.

Say, has she done anything like that before in the past? I can't imagine someone with her talent not trying her hand at animation.

> I can't imagine someone with her talent not trying her hand at animation.
I think she did 3D animations in the past. I'm probably wrong, all I know is it was 3D something. Someone could correct me.

>Say, has she done anything like that before in the past?

One of the few that I know of that are talented enough to animate their own work is Blacksad's artist.

I wouldn't know, I never joined the stream.

I'm pretty sure she worked as an animator for a little bit, but I'm not 100% on that. I'd love to see lackadaisy animated, but only if it were faithful to the source material and didn't pull any punches.

>tfw

She didn't kick anyone out nor did she even notice, I'm not sure she's even aware she has those tools at her disposal on twitch.

'sides, this happened before when someone mentioned it was posted to Sup Forums in twitch chat and her opinion was roughly "well if it gets out of hand, we'll do some verification thing through Patreon. But the streams never get more than 30 people on average, with only ten or so of those people actually participating in chat so it has never really become an issue.

>Mordecai
>Loyal
>Blames Mitzi for Atlas's death, betrays entire organization that took him in to work for the Marigolds instead

thats nice of her not to care

i might actually drop a little into her patreon

Definitely. I am seriously considering taking that last $50/month spot because I don't think I've seen it open for a while and partly as a mea culpa for hoisting the stream here.

Due to the time period I assume that most, if not all the characters basically are white, how do you think Tracy could go about dealing with racial stuff. I know its kinda political, but I think that would be a interesting dimension for the story.
