Why the shoulder pad?

Why do the new TIE fighters have a red thing?
aesthetics
why are their helmets asymmetrical?
It's almost like the helmets are cheap plastic made in rudimentary plastic molds.
Pretty much this. Other than the aesthetics, in a place like Mos Eisley, there's probably all sorts of fucked up attire and armor that all the different types of aliens are wearing. The orange shoulder pad is a quick way to distinguish an authority figure from everyone else.
Why a fucking cape?
This. Not sure why stormtroopers even have ranks. I thought their whole deal was that they're interchangeable.
Star Wars autismo here.
In the case of Tatooine, it indicated them as being Sandtroopers, specialised for the environment.
Shoulder Pauldrons are usually used to indicate rank though.
They are still a military with commanding positions for obvious reasons.
ANH Troopers were all asymmetrical, no helmet was identical. The production value was much higher in the sequels.
If you're referring to the stripe, I believe it indicates that the TIE is a larger 2-seater variant
To protect the shoulder during the operation of heavy weapons (duh)
Wtf can scouts remove their goggles?
That's stupid. They're clearly intentionally asymmetrical.
Pic related is a Magma trooper. Like Sand troopers, they wear a Pauldron to indicate their specialisation, which is operating on a volcanic planet.
In the helmet? No, thats just part of the design. Not much peripheral vision, huh.
Brassards are used for temporary insignia usually for non-permanent roles. Usually for people like UN observers, military police, medics.
In SW the troopers with orange probably have more law enforcement duties rather than just being security.
Any cool EU planet-specific armor?
+10 to High Ground
Not EU but here's a list of canon variants to the armor of clones, storm troopers, and first order
By EU, I assume you mean Canon stuff, and not the Legends Expanded Universe?
The Magma Troopers have only been seen on Sullust, but I'd wager they could be found on Mustafar as well.
While not planet-specific, Death Troopers are commonly assigned to high-ranking Imperial officials.
If you're into Clones, there is a metric fuckton of special cool Clones in The Clone Wars
Theres some non-canon stuff in there just FYI.
What are the riot troopers from? Any idea? I love riots in media.
consult /fa/
Wow I need to check my eyes. I thought the magma trooper was a real photo from Rogue One.
I mean all expanded universe, I just like the armor where it clearly has a secondary function. Color swaps are boring.
yeh I guess there is some non-canon
Riot clone troopers are from The Clone War animated show 2008-2012 and the riot troopers are from the old EU and force unleashed if I remember correctly.
such fucking cancer
There are Riot Troopers in The Clone Wars, Season 6
Dice uses incredible tech where they literally scan in physical sets and props to make things photorealistic.
I think Battlefront 2 might genuinely be the most realistic game ever made.
>I mean all expanded universe
Just a heads up to avoid confusion, but there is only one Expanded Universe. The newer stuff isn't called EU, just Canon.
George Lucas never considered anything but his movies + TCW to be Canon, and in 2014 Lucasfilm announced they would be making new comics and books to join Lucas's official Canon. All the old stuff that was previously known as the EU was renamed "Legends".
So it's Canon, and Legends (aka the old EU).
Fuck the hell off mate
How long have you waited for a chance to use that pic?
it's to signify rank, probably
you left out those blue guards from the prequels
I haven't waited at all, simply used it because of relevance
I didn't make it but they shouldn't be on there in the first place because the senate guards aren't part of the clone army, they're for the senate and Palpatine.
The whole front of their helmet swings up to expose their face.
Not sure how canon this is to star wars though. Rebels used a bunch of the un-used concepts for the movies from Ralph Mcquarie so it's possible that these are early helmet designs and they get rid of the function with later designs.
Pfft that's just there to show the protagonists face.
I just hadn't seen that goggle-line from that toy in ROTJ
Rebels is 100% canon to the movies. Hera is mentioned in Rogue One, Chopper and the Ghost are actually ON SCREEN in R1, Obi-Wan, Darth Maul, Leia, Lando, Luke, all appear, as well as numerous Clone Wars and prequel characters. They're even retconning RotJ to make that old white-bearded Rebel Commando into Captain Rex.
So, if they say that's how Scout Trooper helmets work, that's how they work.
I know it's 100% canon but I'm saying it's possible they phased out the design, the storm troopers from the earlier episodes get phased out really quickly.
Valid point.
Kids already have other storm trooper toys. They need to sell new ones.
Isn't that only for Sandtroopers?
Sandtroopers were in a New Hope. Kids didn't have any of the toys back then. I'm pretty sure Star Wars revolutionized action figures.
It was probably more like, we need to reuse the costumes, but they aren't on a starship, and they need to look different somehow.
>Having different designs for different planets is just to sell more toys
fuck off with that shit. Does every soldier in the army or pilot in the airforce look the exact same? Is there not different camouflage/different gear for any environment? Not to mention that in Star Wars that's practically 1000s of planets that the Empire is required to keep the peace on, and each one has varying ecosystems and geography. There's planets that are essentially just giant fucking volcanoes, it's not rocket science that they'll need different troops for those.
So it would be easier to pick off the highest ranks? What a stupid idea
P.s. it looks stupid.
this.
this.
at my work there are 4 different hair net colors (work in a food factory) to indicate ranks/manager levels of authority etc so its no surprise the empire would have something like this too. so you can see who are the grunts and who are the bosses.
They need to be able to identify officers you fucking nigger. Do roman centurions look the exact same as a legionary? Do U.S. officers look the same as an infantry soldier? Also an officer isn't as valuable in this scenario as you might think they are. Congratulations, you picked off the officer of what is most likely a squad of 4-5, oh no they're all gonna be in disarray and shit!
Officers do look exacly the same as soldiers faggot, unless you actually think they go to war wearing the formal version of the uniform, in that case you are justo retarded
but that is literally wrong
Oh sweetie
rebels and rogue one ar edisney shit though. things not made by original creators = non canon. hence why witcher games are non canon etc.
AT-RT driver is a fucking brainlet.
they hate sand
To sell more toys.
>indicates rank
>All of them are orange
Literally this.
At a glance, Scout and BARC are incorrectly depicted.
