David F. Sandberg in Talks to Direct ‘Shazam’ For New Line

>David F. Sandberg is in talks to direct “Shazam,” for New Line, TheWrap has exclusively learned.

>Sandberg has “Annabelle 2” the sequel to 2014 supernatural horror film, “Annabelle,” set to be released by New Line on August 11th, 2017.

>The Swedish filmmaker broke out with his 2016 debut “Lights Out,” which is based on his 2013 acclaimed horror short of the same name. A sequel to the film is also in the works at New Line.

SHAZAM!

Meh.

Well, I never thought it'd be good anyway.

Now it's confirmed trash...

>Horror director
>The Big Red Cheese

Sounds dubious at best

>implying the movie will ever be produced

>casting horror directors for Superhero movies

For what purpose

Truth is, many horror directors are just "blue collar" directors, they do horror movies to keep a job or kickstart a career with a relatively simple project, not necessarily because they're particularly interested in horror aesthetics and whatnot

>>Horror director

Tons of great directors started with horrorm, James Cameron, Guillermo del Toro, Sam Raimi, Peter Jackson, etc

>David Sandberg
Fucking YUSSSSS

>David F. Sandberg
Who?

Isn't Del Toro still doing creepy stuff?

This.

There are very few horror only directors, like Adam Green. Even that asshole directed comedy stuff.

Del taco loves monster designing that's why he loves Hellboy, he can create as many freak ass monsters with out worrying about having to fit them in to a horror narrative.

He just loves when he doesn't have to hide the creatures.

NO CENA - NO WATCH!

YOU'RE GETTING THE ROCK AND YOU'RE GONNA LIKE IT!

We already have the Rock

Also

>not calling it Captain Marvel

Cowards.

yeah, let's get a HORROR director to direct the most sunny, cheerful, kid friendly hero we have.

brilliant! more cocaine for everyone!

To be fair, in the current political climate between Marvel and DC, Marvel would probably sue the shit out of them and shut the movie down before it was released out of pure spite.

>New Line

So non-canon?

Marvel is cancer though.

They're gonna turn Billy into a pedo, aren't they?

This. If they were going to do a connection between magic and Dark Universe (or whatever the magic DCEU film is now being called), this might be a feasible possibility but mostly NO.

Toby Emmerich is in charge of New Line and has had success doing so. He said when the film was first shingled there (and then afterwards, once the DECU actually took shape) that it was going to be outside that universe (although I doubt it will be more than what the DCW is doing as far as exploring a multiverse - which should become a lot easier for normies/casuals to understand due to The Flash and DCW shows, and that the MCU has introduced the Realms and especially the Dark Dimension with Dr. Strange).

They're working on a script; the main issue about it going into preproduction has related to The Rocks schedule, and mostly casting Billy as a kid (which is more crucial in that the kids has to be available for a 3 picture deal and not age too much in that time) and to cast someone who can work against The Rock and not be swallowed by him.

This is mainly why they are now trying the idea of a solo movie with just The Rock as Black Adam, presumably establishing the idea of the wizard and perhaps setting it in the ancient Middle East.

What is he being secretive about? The fact that he's a 12 year old?
