The scene would have been exactly the same if they just walked in and caught him since he's not going to rape her with all four of them standing there threatening to alert someone/film video evidence of the rape. The beatdown added nothing to the scene but outlandishly cartoonish imagery that detracted from the impact of his actions. All tension dissolved and it became comedic instead of dramatic.

Alice and Hal sort of makes sense given that:

>they knew about Archie and Grundy

>Hal is shown to have an association with Hiram which may be relevant

But it doesn't really make much sense for the Coopers to start killing people. It's possible Dark Betty is just fucking with Betty Betty at this point and has either nothing to do with the real Black Hood or is contacting the Black Hood independent of Betty Betty's thought.
