it hits way too close to home for me. I'm going to end up as a bill :(

It showed me how important it is to look for genuine connection and someone that you can build a life with.

I don't think it was depressing. Bill got closure with Frances even if it's not in the way he wanted. If things work out with June, he'll at least have someone to spend his last years with, and new love tends to wash away the pain of past regrets.

At least Bill enjoyed his youth though, by the sounds of it.

Bill cheated on her and made her feel like she wasn't pretty enough for him and was hesitant to commit. Didn't reply to heartfelt letters. Bill was a tail chasing fuccboi who thought his personal goals were more important than the relationship goals.

Its only right that she moved on. He should be thankful that she didn't savagely shut him down for even trying to bring up marriage.

She was too sweet of a gramma to do that.

This.

Also who else gets the vibe that Bill is on the spectrum?

That's just old people. Everything about Bill's behaviour would have been completely appropriate in the 50s. As usual, Bill is hanging on to the past when it's completely inappropriate.

It was kind of bittersweet.

It was about having genuine moments with people in order to have a joyous life but the last shot is of Nathan surrounded by a camera crew with an escort who doesn't genuinely like him.

I see where you're coming from but all the other old people in the episode seemed a lot more normal and slightly uncomfortable by his forwardness. The whole reason Bill is on the show in the first place is because of his unusual manner, and he doesn't seem to pick up on other people's feelings very well

I'm not going to lie I kind of missed the point of Nathan and the escort, made me genuinely uncomfortable because I didn't understand Nathan's intent

Who here /I'd eat that prostitutes thick pussy/?

did you see that picture of young bill? he was more handsome than a young brando he probably fucked pussy al the way to california

He was a wannabe Hollywood type in his younger years, so he's always going to be more "out there" than the rest. The difference is that the other old people slowed down and acted their age. Bill still wants to be a 20 year old in the 50s.

absolutely AAA television, id be perfectly fine with that being the end of the series. it would be one of the best finales ive seen

she was a very homely hooker

pure KINO

Yeah but being attractive doesn't make you not autistic. Autism can disguise itself pretty well, especially when someone's good looking, and people with asd can come off as emotionally distant, which girls find attractive.

Yeah true, he also seems quite narcissistic. He was offended she didn't recognise his voice after 50 years lol

discalimer: i love this show and nathan is fucking brilliant.
but i just watched the episode with the computer repairman. why does nathan victimize innocent people like that? he literally manipulated him into saying he looks at peoples personal info when he made it clear at the beginning he doesnt. I wish he would find assholes to do this to like the private I douche. hes just fucking with and embarrassing innocent people!

It's business.

>tfw you realize this whole episode was an allegory of his divorce

youre right i shouldnt qustion nathan he did get really good grades desu

whoms?

Nathan's

bill seems happy enough. sure the lost love didn't work out but he's still a ding dong daddy enjoying life

Ouch

That's a stretch

kek i immediately thought of his marriage with the uber driver

I'm 28 and I feel like I'm becoming Bill. I had that connection with someone who was ready and willing to build such a life with me and I royally fucked it up. This episode was really good, and also extremely hard to watch.

Bill calling her on the phone when he was right outside her house and not telling her he was coming to see her made me really sad for some reason. There's something kinda tragic about him never seeing her face to face imo. Also seeing how pretty the hooker was made me kinda sad too. She had such a pretty smile and laugh, she seemed like a really cute girl next door. This episode definitely brought the feels.

I am not sure what the original purpose of hiring an escort was, as I don't think they could have planned on Bill declining to interact with her. But based on the editing of this episode, this is the message that I thought Nathan was trying to convey:

In many ways, Nathan's behavior mirrors that of an escort. He puts on a fake persona for the purpose of the show, just like how an escort puts on a fake persona for the purpose of the client.

Now here's where things get kind of depressing for me. One of the recurring themes throughout the show is Nathan the character attempting to fill the void of loneliness. We know that, at least to a certain extent, Nathan the real person probably feels some amount of loneliness. This is evidenced by his divorce and several out-of-character interviews he has done where he's discussed his social awkwardness. Maci is a real escort who's getting paid real money. We can assume she's probably a pretty good one, as well, based on her rates. So the question is: Are the feelings that Nathan (the character) displays in the show indicative of the feelings Nathan the real person was feeling?

This episode was filmed over the course of at least a couple of months. I refuse to believe that Nathan was able to stay in character all that time for that long. No one is that good. I feel like there's a possibility that Nathan the real person actually felt some sort of emotional connection to Maci, and even though he had an in-character excuse to keep seeing her, he also genuinely enjoyed those moments. But things are a bit more complicated than this.

Maci is clearly made uncomfortable by the cameras, as shown by the last scene of the episode. She's seen the show before, and most likely knows that Nathan is playing a character. So she has no idea whether Nathan is actually enjoying their encounters as much as he appears to be, or if he's just doing it for the show. It's hard to decipher where the character ends and the real person begins.

Great song. Wanna sing it for my 57th Reunion.

Nathan is not a character the whole show is an elaborate excuse for him to be himself.

looks like a nice place

(cont.)
So in a way, both Maci and Nathan are taking advantage of one another. And while it is technically a mutually beneficial interaction, it is ruined by the fact that both parties know the other person is not being genuine.

This episode was extremely depressing for me. Multiple other people have already made this comparison, but this episode reminded me of Synecdoche, New York. My entire feelings about this episode can be summarized in one quote from the episode: "What's the purpose?" The whole episode follows Bill's journey based on a obsession of lost love, only to discover at the end that he was obsessed with someone who was already happily married. You would think this would be depressing for Bill, and for a while it was, but not long after, he decides to finally move on and pursue a relationship with someone else. In a sense, the purpose, or at least the result, of Bill's entire journey was a moot point.

I've been a fan of this show since season 1, and I don't think there's a single episode that I haven't enjoyed. But I pray that there is no season 5. Continuing the show after this episode would ruin the message.

>he decides to finally move on and pursue a relationship with someone else
Someone who he only knows because it was her job to imitate his actual love interest.

>tfw never be a Ding Dong Daddy from Dumas

The character is based off of himself, but it's definitely a character

Anyone listen to the commentaries with Bill? How funny/awkward are they?

she had her own life. going to her door would have served no purpose other than deepening Bill's wound.

You don't get it. Maci acknowledges that Nathan is playing a character for a show. She tells him that he's mean for manipulating people and that he's only pretending to be fond of her because it's part of the show he's making and the character he's playing. She's showing to us that you can look past people's facades and look for genuine connection so long as you are self-aware and honest.

does this show get good ratings? it's incredibly kino and gets great reviews. wondering how many seasons we could get.
can you believe they premiered it on the same night as the ben show?

This episode man

It bothered me how nice and pretty the escort was.

I think Nathan being bored of the show is a biggest risk to its future than the ratings.

I’m pretty sure that because parts of the dates were filmed for broadcast, Nathan was able to pay for his escort with the shows budget.

What a Dumas.

Could you be bullshitting any harder?

Literally her job.

yeah are escorts really that hot? Might look into one

Bullshitting is the central core of N4U. Don't start pretending now that you don't appreciate it.

They're just other people friend, some are hot and some aren't, I'd assume the more expensive ones are more attractive but I'm not that much of a degenerate.
