Video Store Thread

What were those movies you rented time after time? Best surprise rental? Worst/regret rental? What were the essential video store classics like Tremors and The Terminator? Did your parents/video store clerks let you rent R rated movies? Any good anecdotes?

>going from store to store with your friends, trying to see if a place in town has that ONE movie, and even going to the next town over to get it after making a few phonecalls to stores in the area
It was awful, but it was amazing too.

>friend steals a movie
>didn't know the boxes are empty.

I regret never getting a job at one when i was a teenager, shit seemed comfy af

>DVD age
>disc is all scratched up

rented the zidane movie once wow that was shit
just a camera on him for a whole game

Sid and Nancy, Kentucky Fried Movie, and Shocking Asia. They were $1 for three days. I wasn't too reliable with returning movies, so my choices were limited if I wanted to avoid late fees.

It was awful aside from having movies run in the background.
>customers who get angry at late fees
>kids breaking shit and making everything dirty
>"HEY BRO DO YOU HAVE THAT ONE MOVIE WITH THAT DUDE WHO WAS IN THAT OTHER MOVIE WITH A GIRL WHO LOOKS LIKE THAT CHICK IN THAT MOVIE WITH THE FIREFIGHT IN WHICH THAT GUY GETS KILLED WHO BANGED THAT BABE IN THAT OTHER MOVIE?"
>"bro does this movie have tits"

word

>HEY BRO DO YOU HAVE THAT ONE MOVIE WITH THAT DUDE WHO WAS IN THAT OTHER MOVIE WITH A GIRL WHO LOOKS LIKE THAT CHICK IN THAT MOVIE WITH THE FIREFIGHT IN WHICH THAT GUY GETS KILLED WHO BANGED THAT BABE IN THAT OTHER MOVIE?

Sorry about that,bro

I didn't find it all that bad - was a good high school job for some cash, and after about ten at night it business died off and I could eat popcorn and watch movies.
Best customer line I ever had tho - 'I want a refund on this movie I rented last week - I made a copy and the copy is all screwed up.'

>not knowing your entire library of flicks at your video store by heart

>That time I accidentally gave a parent some porn tape instead of their kids movie
They were really, really angry about that one

>had a girl-friend that worked at video store when I was in HS
>was dating her friend
>weird lonely guy would come in and scare the friend girl
>she would call my gf and get me there to protect her from weirdo creep
>I would mess with him and flashed my gf titties at him out of compassion

>worst
I loved the games, had most of the toys, read Blood and Thunder, and thought because Street fighter the Animated Movie was great this would be awesome too.
Fucking diabolical.

my mum booked a copy of "k9" so we could rent it and watch it on my birthday. it was from Ritz which was the main video rental chain before blockbuster infiltrated the uk market.

you could reserve a copy of a newly released movie

?

My only real video store anecdote was telling some kids around my age they should rent Dennis the Menace because I thought it was the best movie ever and they looked at me like I was retarded. And no, I wasn't allowed to rent R rated movies, they probably were.

first job I ever applied for was my local Blockbuster, never heard back.

what are you having trouble with adolf?

>Doing reservations
Sounds like a pain desu

Your use of girlfriend and gf is confusing.

The location of a small place we would rent from near me movies and nes/snes stuff ended up eventually hosing a comfy little gamestop type of store with retro games and comics and other nerd shit like that so funny how life circles back sometimes. Other stuff used the space in between but life found a way to come back.

>old enough to remember going to video stores to rent movies and games every week, browsing various films that were "too grown-up" for me to rent
>young enough that my local Blockbuster went under as soon as I was old enough to apply there.
feels bad :/ kind of fun torrenting all those movies that I was intrigued by based on the boxart alone and realizing how shit they are though.

why did they all smell the same? popcorn and cigarettes and urine

>time after time
The Shining on VHS, my mom would literally call and confirm when I was 16, after awhile they just said fuck it and didn't need confirmation

I rented the MK movie at least ten times as a kid, and at least five for Annihilation.

I simply had to have it for my birthday. I would have gone into full meltdown if it was out of stock.
Also reserved ET on the first day it came out..... shit was cash.

>blockbuster DVD era
>only like non-pleb films
>blockbuster only carried 1 or 2 dvd's of non pleb movies....but had a fuckton of pleb movies like harry potter
>non pleb movies like ammores perros were in high rotation
>scratched to fuck
>DVD would stop playing half way through on multiple DVD players
>take it back to blockbusters to try and get another copy to finish the fucking movie
>"we don't have another copy in stock....do you want a copy of shrek?"
>get broadband and start torrenting

Best rental was probably either Tremors or one of the Tales from the Crypt movies. Worst rental ever was Nirvana with Christopher Lambert. We had a few video stores all of them pretty small and no big chains. I would've loved working there although it's probably a pain in the ass to deal with customers and shit that brakes and people who steal empty boxes and shit.
