Ragnarok starts with Thor in the steps of Odin's throne, in full ceremonial armor, He ascends the steps as Odin stands and welcomes his son back. Thor announces that he has come home, and that he had a lot to think about and his wanting to put stop to his self imposed exile, Odin asks him if 'earth has failed him' to which Thor does not respond.
We then see Asgard shake and we see Hela for the first time, clad in black and shadows and announces that the Asgardians has ruled for a long time and that its time for them to step down, Hela dissipiates Loki's magic and reveals for all to see that Odin was Loki all along, Hela reveals that with Odin's absence, she has come to collect the "Seeds of Discord", artifacts that if combined, will bring about out the end of the universe by unleashing every single soul from Hel.
A fight ensues with the Asgardians and the combined forces of Niflheim and Muspelheim, Thor and Loki is then protected by the Warriors Three in which all three falls, Heimdall then sacrifices himself to transport Thor and Loki to Midgard leaving Mjolnir back in Asgard, Hela takes Heimdall's eyes and reveals that its the 2nd of the four, The scene then shifts to Thor and Loki on earth, Thor beats Loki and demands he reveals Odin's location, Loki discloses that he banished Odin to earth, similar to how Odin did to Thor, an angered Thor reminds Loki that as a mortal, Odin is not able to enter 'Odinsleep' and their chances of taking Asgard back will be reduced to none

Strange demands for answers and as Loki is about to, Strange casts a spell at him rendering him unconscious, Strange and Thor then has a conversation about their mission, Thor voices that Odin is lost on earth and Strange agrees to help Thor find him in the condition that they leave earth as fast as possible.
Thor, Loki and Strange search the globe for Odin and Thor suggests that they ask the Avengers, Strange denies his request revealing that the Avengers are no more, to which Loki laughs, Thor then visits his home and his friend, Daryll Jacobson, reveals to them that Dr. Banner has been trying to contact Thor for weeks, the trio then transports to Banner's place where he reveals that Odin has come to him for help, and that Odin is left in a comatose state, severely weakened
