Storytime of Pain: Thundercats

Good evening owls,

I was told this sucks. AT the least, it's Ed Benes drawing the Thundercats, so...

oh man, special fonts for those snarfs

(sorry there was no Tuesday storytime, real life intervened)

So what have we missed/solicits/etc? What was good on Wednesday and what sucked?

>I was told this sucks

it does

so we're taking the meta approach here

also angry Snarf is kind of scary, shit

I hope it's memorably shitty

...

Has this dude written anything else?

no skipping leg day

Hulk continued being good if very slow-paced. It will almost certainly read better in trade.

how disappointing was Thunderbolts, man

aaaand here we go

As a spic I feel like I need to say that America preview was... fucking godawful. Like, holy shit was it bad. Bad show-don't-tell propping up Bendis would approve of, bad coloring, pretty goddamn horrible dialogue.
>pa' fuera pa' la calle
Like, fuck off, dude.

And really, Miss America Chavez is your choice for a fucking Latino (or Latinx if you're feeling particularly stupid) voice? Freaking Miss America Chavez who's not even from fucking Earth?! What is wrong with you?

Just... wow. Man, am I mad.

>posting in wrong thread

I saw a thread wherein a whole bunch of normally Progressive Comics 100% Positive people were cringing like fuck about it, so, well, should be interesting!

Yeah, I'm sure Casey in his Joe Casey way was kind of going for a "Miss America but of the Now" with her and Gillen got his entirely too clever Wonder Woman expy thing in mind and ran with it and now the sense...

I was expecting him to shit the bed but he actually managed to do worse than I feared. He was straight up shitting on Zemo there.

lol n00b

this is the JSA storytime thread, pretty much. we're chatty, and owls are always on topic.

The one--ONE--constant is that Zemo always has the number for each of the Bolts in an unnerving way. He didn't even try with Erik, and he's good at bullying him!

Oh, I know damn well where I'm posting my little soapbox, believe me.

Why not White Tiger or something? Why Miss America? Just why? WHY?

>As a spic I feel like I need to say that America preview was...
What Country are you front

Hello, Storyteller.

First off, I ain't afraid to admit I missed you. Second, the 2011 Thundercats show was such a huge disappointment that I kinda doubt this crap here can top it.

I was originally somewhat hopeful for the America solo because some of the stuff the writer said in interviews sounded good...but holy shit, that preview was godawful.

It's definitely pitching for the Gillen YA market--low but steady, checks a variety of boxes, people have made noises about it for a while--but the distance between pitch and 20 pages a month is...

I went and climbed Enchanted Rock, which was on my bucket list, so I love y'all but it wasn't happening

That Thunderbolts issue moved the Zubbolts run from storytime of boredom & disappointment into storytime of pain territory.

If everything goes well, you'll find out soon enough ;^)
Honestly, I don't know why I'm being such a tease, it's not even that big of a deal. I guess I just like some of the mystique of the X-user identity

>If everything goes well, you'll find out soon enough ;^)
Oh OK. Good

Don't even talk about it.

For me personally it was just a bunch of intro pages for a #1 which is looking for an audience, so I didn't get the hate. I expected that. The meat of the comic, if there's gonna be any, was almost totally absent from the preview.

I read some tl;dr about it that was very cathartic, to know that other people thought it sucked THAT much and exactly why.

This panel is the whole comic. I want to believe there's the tiniest sense of irony here, but.

It was just infuriatingly pander-y, and you can tell this is going to be the Ta-Nehisi Coates' Black Panther for Latinos starring a lead that's not even fucking Latina!

Also, I don't like either the character or the set-up describes in the interviews, so the book as a whole is just a huge turn-off for me. Like the kind of thing I'd be embarrassed to be caught reading in public.

>"We never formed a new military. We never thought we'd need it."
You people are a bunch of fucking morons, and you deserve the ass whoopin' Mumm-Ra served you.

I rolled my eyes at the "Kate (the REAL Hawkeye)" because that's really hard to pull off--either you come across as defensive because you know she's not, or you fall into the "Making dudebros mad is virtuous in and of itself" category. And, well, we all saw something of what happens to figures who live and die solely on the making people mad front, lol

...

>And, well, we all saw something of what happens to figures who live and die solely on the making people mad front, lol
They become President of the United States?

kinky statuary: check

I laughed my ass off at one page turn in THE FIX today

ngl, I am excite

Zubbolts has accomplished two things, a) never wanting to see Zub anywhere near characters I care about ever again and b) making me completely loathe Bucky.

You forgot to put in your name.

But welcome back, Lady Owlfather.

>ngl, I am excite
Waiting for

I debated if it was just SoP or not

hoot hoot

So I feel like while promising things were said in the preview/interview there was always a solid 50:50 this was gonna be another Marvel Book for X (are you buying it yet?). The college set-up adds to that because you have to be Good to make that good.

But for the actual preview it's to me just backstory pages. Maybe I'm totally off on this one, but I'm not having the same reaction as a lot of people I see. Is it a hook? No, but a basic intro isn't making me disgusted. The cringiest bit for me in that is the "I WISH I COULD HUG MY MOMS" and the worrying bit is the lack of immediate hook or any edge.

Burn E2 to the ground and salt the ashes

I think the people who like it are all Bucky stans

Hope it was a nice trip.

oh hey thread!

i still haven't read any of this weeks comics...

the end of the last Ultimates2 shook me hard, so great

Enchanted Rock is awesome and middle of the week is best time

flowers aren't quite up yet, sadly

oh no

;-;

>Burn E2 to the ground and salt the ashes
This please

What got me most was it was like Zub didn't even read Stand-off.

Elektra was good for a first issue. Clean Room started their apocalypse, and Deathstroke continues to be a bastard

>those first two panels
...let me get a drink for this one.

got my gold, got my dog, got bitches, life's good

The entire run is a showcase of wasted opportunity and laziness

Snarf should not have eaten so many Snarfshrooms. He's tripping balls.

What baffles me is why Helmut didn't just, like, go up to their front door and knock. "Hello old friends. Life seems to be shitting on you a bit. I can help you with that. Just come on back to me and we can clean up this whole mess. What do you say?"

Would've been a better sales pitch than rather uncharacteristically going thug on their asses for no good reason.

Deathstroke gave us the true definition of "daddy appropriation"

> "Kate (the REAL Hawkeye)"

i haven't read the preview but i mean that's just cocky asshole Hawkeye stuff.

DADDY HAS SOMETHING TO DO

behold

Exactly! He knows how to reel them in! He's good at it!

What got me was how he didn't kill Bucky

HERE WE GOOO

it's different put in the mouth of a Hawkeye as opposed to on a recap page, IMO

The refusal to deal with Standoff in any way was one of the most idiotic decisions Zub made but became especially grating here where he seemed to ignore that Karla, Erik and Norbert teamed up with Helmut just fine there.

Also he completely botched the Norbert and Helmut dynamic, being the only writer in twenty years to do that.

...

I don't even know how to approach this.

i feel it works better from Hawkeyes than in text/whatever

>he completely botched the Norbert and Helmut dynamic
even Bru basically got that one right, FFS

soooo, raise your hand if you watched all the original episodes of this reasonably close to first run

Just read the He-Man/Thundercats crossover. It's metal and fun at the same time. And Lion-O needs to keep the one-eye badass look.

it's sexytimes, clearly

...

finally reading Jack Knight's Space Adventure and it's really funny to me how much is aping the end of Moore's Swampy that no one talks about

question: is there a sex dungeon hidden in the cave?

>no JSA in subject field
reeeee

Also to that one user who was waiting for my Wondie storytime-- sorry, had a real bummer of a bad thing happen IRL. Probably not gonna be posting for awhile.

>two nice chests.jpg

First internal question
>Does Mumm-Ra even have a dick?
Then
>Does Mumm-Ra fuck?

>OOK! OOK! OOK!

this is ape racist

Got a link?

I was a Biker Mice from Mars kid.

>crossover
I'll pass, thanks.

Did Transformers vs. GI Joe teach you nothing?

...

Cranky hated it.

Actually it's awesome, so far. Give it a try. You don't be disappointed. There is one issue left.

oh shit, this is like a Scorpion move

I'm not used to liches who fuck actually I am but in a very different context.

Considering I didn't read it, no. Nor do I have any intention of reading it, as I have hopefully made my anti-crossover stance quite clear.

if this is going towards FATAL I'm running away

Your lost then.

I simultaneously don't even want to think about the thunderkitten/mumm-ra S&M relationship and want to look it up and see if any deranged pervert has actually written it.

...

How do you even know about FATAL? You mock the RPG crowd ITT for being nerds.

But no it's from a gross/fucked-up fantasy porn author I read a lot of when I was a teen.

report back

>not gonna suck itself

Storytime regulars hit me with FATAL one night

I forget what the riposte was, but it was shitty comics, and a lot of them.

Ed Benes, owls!

...

Ed Benes invented modern anime PoV decades before we acknowledge it.

Good ol' butt floss.

Wilykat is clearly his preferred mate.

Well, the Busiek/Bagley prologue was not super terrible, and it was nice to see the Wrecking Crew win a fight for once, but otherwise ENTIRELY disappointing. Like, opening your Baby Ruth and finding a literal piece of shit.

Yes, woe is me for skipping out on an inherently terrible story concept.

This ain't even the best part.

I forget what it was about, but someone whose taste I generally value was talking about how something current was solidly enjoyable except for all the "Why am I doing this?" gratuitous shots

Problem is while knowing nothing about T-Cats fandom I bet almost all of what I can find is going to be twincest.

I think Zub's Zemo managed to actually be more terrible than Hopeless' and Remender's. Theirs were at least properly manipulative.

Talking about being biased, without even read the story. Anyway let's stop it here.

Ah, here we go, this was RT'd to me

>I'm not entirely sure why but I'm watching Konosuba. This is kind of entertaining when the camera isn't jammed up the female lead's butt

You have to acknowledge genius when you see it, even in an unfamiliar or detestable field.
