While the less-than-subtle meta stuff didn't always hit home, I think the heavy handed nature of Ronaldo's ego was probably what annoyed people the most (I just watched one reaction where the guy was FURIOUS about the episode which was pretty funny in and of itself). Even Steven reached his breaking point, and it feels like that's as far as Ronaldo can go in terms of being "the random weird guy". He'll probably just be an ally from now on and help rally the town when the inevitable invasion comes.
