I will honestly never get why people call Godard existential. It's something I read all the time. The closest thing of his I have watched and can consider existential is Alphaville and that seems poor man's existentialism...

there are some really good films in there which are not existentialist at all
Oslo 31st August is just as good IMO and explores the same themes with a modern touch. Both heartbreaking and worth a watch.
