Daleks are literally just emotionless squid things in dildo shaped power armor. They genetically engineered themselves to remove emotion and other things to try and make themselves perfect. Then encased themselves in "perfect" machine bodys.

The Dalek creature itself is the squid-like organism inside of the metal body. The metal body is attached in a "metal suit" type of way with a life support system built in, but it isn't actually organically attached to the Dalek.
