Pokemon: The Movie

branded to kill

Redline.

All Night Long
Tetsuo the Iron Man

akira kurosawa's filmography.
that's it. the rest of it is sentimental no fun allowed garbage for self oppressed ants

Adrift in Tokyo

We don't like non American films here, sorry chang.

Stop stealing things from Hollywood.

how about those horror movies like ju on, or the plethora of cheesy karate movies
>we

Assuming you're talking samurai films then all of Kurosawa's plus Harakiri is your standard recommendations.

I want particularly >fun movies that aren't TOO dialogue heavy. Kurosawa movies are a solid recommendation

Shin Godzilla

>what’s Tampopo

My favorite from the Nikkatsu Noir set but all of them were pretty dope, Japs knew how to make some real gangster shit

It's just okay. I think it's impossible for me to fully understand japanese humor. Like the weird mouth to mouth egg transfer. You would never find that stuff in the west. It's bizarre and not exactly outright comical. More uncomfortable than anything.

Here's the meme chart but in all honesty they might be too slow for most people.

so theres some kind of canon connecting these movies? what are these about?

boring as fuck.
whole movie could've been 30 minutes long.

Pulse is such a good horror movie, I didn't know it was connected to the director other's works. I'm going to watch the rest now.

Ikiru. its such a heartbreaking tale, yet pleasantly simple.

Rashomon
Seven Samurai
K-ON! The Movie

>K-ON! The Movie
you serious nigger?

If we're going to include anime I think the 3 kizumonogatari movies are, how do you say... kino

>K-ON! The Movie

slice of life moe has more to offer than your shallow samurai flicks

Best japanese movie of this decade

>mfw I realize muv luv is better than shitty japanese """cinema"""

It's never stated that they're connected it's just a theory a lot of people have. It's even mentioned in the Blu Ray of Pulse that was released like two months ago.

...

It's so good.

Yes, a shitty porn game is better than films exploring the very core of society and humanity such as Humanity and Paper Balloons.

Muv Luv has some a few porn scenes but it's not a porn game. It's about time lines and shit like Steins;Gate. You have to invest a shit ton of time though I wouldn't recommend it to non neets 2bh

This is like one of those "feel good movie of the year" that Hollywood churns out every now and then but with japanese boob jokes, I don't know why it gained such popularity.

>It's about time lines and shit like Steins;Gate
lol

...

neat, thanks user

thats an interesting theory any in depth analysis on this?

...

movie?

Hey I recognize that chubby cheeks guy from Massacre Gun

nvm i am retard

lol i like anime but this movie is absolute trash

The Six Samurai
obv

I'm not a huge fan of Tokyo Story (Ozu).
However, lots of people gush over it.
So it's probably good. To some people.

The Hidden Fortress (Kurosawa) is not as good as Seven Samurai. High bar though -- many people including me think Seven Samurai is one of the best movies ever made.
However, Hidden Fortress is also good, suspenseful, funny, and exhilarating. It's also important for Western film because it influenced Star Wars in some ways.

Yeah same, seven samurai is in my top 10 but hidden fortress I found to be pretty boring. Actually a lot of his films I find hard to sit through like red beard. But the one about the guy with cancer is great all the way through.

>ctrl-f
>no Teshigahara
so I just made a list of some of my favourites. enjoy:
Ozu
>1949 - Late Spring
>1957 - Tokyo Twilight
Kon
>1956 - The Burmese Harp
Kobayashi
>1962 - Harakiri
Imamura
>1962 - Pigs and Battleships
Shindo
>1964 - Onibaba
Teshigahara
>1964 - Woman in the Dunes
>1966 - Face of Another
Shinoda
>1969 - Double Suicide
Kurosawa
>1950 - Rashomon
>1952 - Ikiru
>1957 - Throne of Blood
>1970 - Dodes'ka-den
>1980 - Kagemusha
>1985 - Ran

Ikiru (To Live). Yeah, I like that one too.
Rashomon: famous but found it too artificial.
Yojimbo: OK and memeworthy but a bit light.
Throne of Blood: overacted.
Still all pretty good.

This

the first 30 minutes of pulse were great

the rest was bizzare post apocolyptic war disconnection symbolism and they went to a doctor in a hut then stopped at a factory for gas or something it was stupid as fuck

What are some good Korean movies, ive seen most of Park Chan-wooks movies?

joe shishido, he was in a shitload of those nikkatsu films

fucking plebs, hidden fortress and seven samurais are indeed boring plebeians kurosawas
See pic related for patrician taste.

>good korean movies
Just a meme bro, by snob reviewers who like to pretend they love exotic bullshit

Limerick composed on the death of Akira Kurosawa
Usenet, 1998

There once was a guy named Akira,
Who read all the works of Shakespira.
He admired the man,
And so, to Japan,
Imported Macbeth and King Lira.

I Live in Fear is the only boring Kurosawa movie you dullards.

I would like some help here, as I don't believe that there is any group of people more qualified to answer this question.

Is there an available English-subbed version of the two-part Japanese film 64 (Roku-Yon) (ロクヨン)? It is a drama with an extraordinarily interesting premise, and it looks to be one of the best Japanese films in existence. This is the trailer: youtube.com/watch?v=WzW7XRTA67o

It is not at all difficult to find a great quality version of the raw film, but it is nigh-impossible to find English subtitles. I have searched everywhere that I can possibly imagine, and have found nothing more than intermittent records stating that English translations were created and shown in certain, select theaters across the globe over a year ago. For example:
japanesefilmfestival.net/film/six-four-part-1/
It claims that the film was aired with English subtitles, once, in Australia, but there is no evidence of its existence. Nobody taped it; nobody knows where the files might be.

If anyone might provide real help in finding this film in English, I would dearly appreciate it. I've been looking forward to watching 64 since the day that this trailer was released.

Kagemusha

>Roku-Yon
I've looked through a few Asian forums for you. I see Chinese subs but no English. Sometimes English subtitles don't come out until years later.

You could be in for a long wait my friend.

What pisses me off, really, is that they exist; they're just not publicly available. Some faggots in Australia subtitled the movie, played it once for probably 15 people, and then threw it in a vault to be discovered in 50 years.

Why bother purchasing the rights to air the film and translate it if you aren't going to make the product into a publicly available work? If I could purchase a copy of what they made, I would do so. But no such thing is (apparently) available. Why?

Rurouni kenshin live action trilogy
13 assassins
Blade of the immortal
Crows zero

It will probably appear on sbs in Australia user. Here they are the place to watch foreign films for free. They have a large film catalogue that you can watch online for free.

Twilight Samurai

The Human Condition trilogy by Masaki Kobayashi. No greater love is particularly excellent.

>TELL ME ABOUT JOE, WHY DOES HE WEAR THE CHEEKS?

Hidden Fortress is like the first Star Wars film it so influenced. It's just a dumb fun romp.
And you're a pleb for not liking Ozu.

In my opinion this is the best jap period piece in at least the last two generations.

stand aside plebs

Still don’t know if that movie is just a meme or if it’s actually good, and I’m not sure I want to spend 4 hours of my life finding out

The film falls apart and catches fire in the cult act.
Can't understand how people can put up with just how bad the film gets when it's then when it's already run like two hours to get there.

I don't know what those things are. Nor am I Australian. Can you explain?

You think tetsuo the ironman is the best jap movie? Seriously?

Damn

Only watched cure out of these and it was some annoying boring shit desu. Are there any other good jap horrors other than ringu?

...

Fish Story is a quirky little film that's pretty fun

...

fpbp

Fucking loved the fight scene when the old guy realizes he sold his fathers sword.

>that look

I never knew about SBS On Demand till your post, thank you very much.

Are you Australian? If not, how do you intend to make use of it?

Yeah, I'm Australian, just always torrented movies and bought the ones I couldn't.

Noroi as well, great film.

Can you check to see if 64 (or Roku Yon, or ロクヨン) is on there? If it is, I need to find a way to get on to SBS.

>Noroi

Gozu

nothing compares.
its the most realistic and sad of what the realities of being a poor samurai are about.
that ending though, he did look after his daughters in the end.

>Sup Forums is one person
>star wars, aka the biggest shit in holywood, took heavy inspiration from a japanese classic

Breakfast at Tiffany's

Can anyone remember the name of a Japanese movie where a kid leaves a cult and travels with a girl who occasionally prostitutes herself? I think the kid goes back to the cult and, at the end of the movie, his hair turns white because he's "enlightened" or a messiah or something.

>no Kagemusha
by all means, stay pleb.

Lol, it's T. Chang from the Ozu thread earlier. Fuck off, mutt.

>no Human Condition trilogy
Ayyyyyy

The sword of doom

A masterpiece. Nakadai was born to play sociopaths. I don't know if it's bad or good that they haven't got to make a trilogy how they planned.

a masterpiece

youtube.com/watch?v=Vnws8ZymxME
