Jon mistook a bottle of furniture polish for shampoo, and he's gonna have a bad time using it as shampoo in the shower. Garfield notices this goof and remarks it to the audience for the humorous effect

Thanks

that's not a bad joke I guess like most things garfield. It's just not laugh out loud funny, like most things garfield lol.

I hate Mondays

youtu.be/Y-ooCnZviZ8

But I love lasagna

I'm happy this got poasted after I got a real answer, at least :P

Would've been better if Garfield said "and based off the label of one of those bottles, a brand of furniture polish"

Did you see the website?

It's a pretty good porn parody shampoofantasy.com/

It satirises something we all secretly know about really well :) Even the blue tint on the video is reminiscent of a typical porn site with thousands of rehosted jav videos

Yeah Jim's kinda lazy like that. God bless him.

Not really. That'd make it redundant

"and based off one of the labels, a brand of furniture polish" would've been fine

I have to really guess what the hell jim is talking about otherwise. Since his jokes are usually pretty stupid and make refences to things for no reason. I kept assuming "furniture polish" was some sort of commentary on jon as a character, or he was gonna play with funiture polish *after* the shower; fuck jim davis, man.

you're retarded, it's really obvious what the joke is

nope

Garfield makes the same fucking face and actions in all his strips it's impossible to tell what he means by anything.

Jon: "I'm going to spend the evening trying out different kinds of shampoo!"

Garfield: "And one kind of furniture polish"

In that context alone, does it mean anything?? The panels and the actions in those panels are virtually redundant because he does the same ones on every single strip.

I'm starting to think Garfield is actually the knockoff of heathcliff

In the first frame, Jon tells Garfield he's going to spend the evening trying out different kinds of shampoo, Garfield looks bored
In the second frame, Garfield leans closer with a look of curiosity on his face and examines the supposed different kinds of shampoo
In the third frame Garfield, now with a smile on his face, obviously happy about Jon's soon-to-happen misadventure states that one of the kinds of shampoo is not a shampoo at all, but furniture polish. Garfield's thought is a direct continuation of Jon's statement

also knock it off with the reddit formatting newfag

Welcome to the Cal-Arts generation.

Can you guys explain this strip to me?

I would but I don't have an hour

You're all clearly retarded.

This guy is right.

How the hell did they find so many Japanese men willing to do this?

I always type like this. I dont give a shit about reddit or Sup Forums

i mean, they dont even have to be japanese; but its pretty easy to make a casting call.

I've read hundreds if not thousands of Garfield strips- the things he's doing in that strip are not specific to that strip, so eventually "Garfield peering" or "garfield smiling at audience" becomes redundant. It was hard for me to see the joke because I've seen these poses a thousand times in random contexts. Most of them meaning nothing. The one time jim wants me to acknowledge garfield looked closely at something I'm supposed to make an exception??

i just think its funny how its a cat smoking a pipe

silly cat

clearly that pipe is for a hooman

heck, forget about it, looking closer even if I DID acknowledge garfield's actions, it's still not fucking clear at all what he means. Looking at jon while he's walking away is supposed to make it clear he's reading the bottles? Look at the strip again and tell me that. This just seems like another ambiguious shitty jim davis joke. The fact that the joke is more "obvious"/simple in the end is proof that jim is an asshole who cant even make a simple stupid joke properly.

no, you're just retarded

>autists incapable of parsing fucking Garfield

Jesus

well, that's true but it doesn't change the fact that I'm right about this

Not really, it's pretty clear.

Its pretty hilarious that op made this thread hoping everybody would agree with him but instead op looks retarded for not getting a very simple joke

If you're going to be confused about the jokes in a comic strip featuring an orange cat, at least pick the right one.

im glad you find it hilarious but I'm not upset if you need to know

eh, I dont give a fuck about heathcliffe. I fucked with him for a while, but I'm done with him

But Heathcliff is by far the superior shitty cat comic strip.

kek

I dont know man it doesn't appeal to me, at least Garfield strips look better

I feel like the heathcliff writer is yawning the whole time but jim davis is an ass who thinks he's witty. So yknow, I dunno maybe they're both shit lol.

Jeez, how did Davis get away with this one?

lol

The Garfield minus Garfield version of this is already making me sad and it doesn't even exist

You what

You fucking what

Yeah, sure, let's just explain the fucking joke in the least subtle and most patronising way possible, as well as remove all fluidity from the structure, just because some drooling fucking mongoloid like yourself might not get it unless it is explicitly spelled out for him.

And hey, let's just add a fourth panel to the comic explaining why the comic was funny in block capitals, while we're at it. Just in case you're having a slow day and need that little extra hand to process the funny, you know?

In fact, fuck all that, let's just replace all the dialogue with farting noises. Who cares about cleverness and wit! Fuck those things! What humour really needs is to be more easily accessible to four year olds, and those who operate on a similar mental level.

Jesus fucking christ, I can't even deal with this right now. I'm going to go and watch the entirety of Monty Python's Flying Circus to remind myself that there was a time when funny things could be funny without needing to choke-chain themselves so that the retard roundup could understand them. I am also going to start drinking. I don't know when I will stop.

shut up its a dumb joke on three panels that's done really poorly

go complain somewhere challenging fucko

>Who cares about cleverness and wit!

You're 12 years old.

I just came across it and thought it was a coincidence, but now you're mentioning it and its weird

Right back at you, you windowlicking, painthuffing ball of broken chromosomes and bad ideas.

Please continue being a blight on the very idea of comedy somewhere less damaging, like The Big Bang Theory fan forum, or maybe a room full of toxic chemicals.

>People think I'm retarded for needing the joke explained
>Better mock the idea that comedy can be clever

Sour grapes

I just want you to know that I stop reading your sentences two words in

yes, this is the perfect place to discuss comedy being clever :D

what a rube

imagine being so fat you look at home and see ham

See now that was actually kind of subtle, which is why I don't think you're even the same person I was mad at

Same person, you just dont understand me

My rebuttal

Fuck you

okay

It's not

okay

...

have you guys seen this shit? It's hilarious

...

...

...

...

It's still works.

What's the big deal with lasagna cat?
I just don't get it

I actually get what you're talking about; for most time, when Garfield looks on something, it's not supposed to mean something specific, but here, it randomly is. But you spend too much time explaining why it doesn't work, which won't make you look better in anybody's eyes.

it's clever. it's funny. it came back after a 9 year hiatus
that's it

Yeah I'm glad you see what I mean, and I guess I dunno I just said whatever- I type the way I talk

>actually thinking Monty Python is clever

I get what they mean but also don't think it has much merit. I feel like that pose is pushed harder than most of the similar poses they mention. Not to mention that Jim Davis doesn't even write these and hadn't for over a decade before this particular strip came out.

I don't think any of the proposed fixes would've made for a better comic. I think it works as it is. I've read like 25 complete years of Garfield. All the jokes read pretty cleanly in just about every strip. This isn't really one of the good ones though. The early 00s had a lot more misses than usual.

This is the epitome of art, there is no way on earth that you can convince me otherwise, it is, completely unironically, kino of the highest caliber

youtube.com/watch?v=NAh9oLs67Cw

>Over an hour long on a three panel strip
What the fuck?

AND ALL IN A SINGLE TAKE

seriously, how the fuck, I couldn't even tell if they did a cut

I like you

You're right, that would have been way more in keeping with the lack of humor in most Garfield strips. Luckily Jim accidentally made this one decent.

I finished the whole thing. I think it started to drift away from analyzing The Pipe Strip about 3/4 through.
