Who's the greatest modern director?
Who's the greatest modern director?
Other urls found in this thread:
denis is the only one to release a good movie out of all of those in the last few years. (f*ck dunkirk)
Villeneuve is the best mainstream director, in that picture him and PTA are way better than the others
but modern, I'd say Martin McDonagh or Yorgos Lanthimos
>but modern, I'd say Martin McDonagh or Yorgos Lanthimos
lmao
>Snyder
>director
mmm
Refn
everyone else imdbspawn cheeto dust bait for the /r/movies drone
ish yo boi Denny V
>No Tarantino
>Only directors with US-targeted films
Shiggyiggy
>no Jew Jew Abrahams
dropped
yeah Refn totally isn't bait for that with movies like Drive lmfao
>no Mel Gibson
>no Taika
>no del Toro
>no Blomkamp
>no JJ (lol)
Nolan > Villneuve > those other 2 >>>>> Refn (at least some geniunity, tho forced artsy crap) = Snyder (at least he copypastes good (300))
Terrence Malick.
>NO UWE BULL
>NO BAY
FAGGOTS!
>six mainstream hollywood hacks
the absolute state of Sup Forums
>implying drive isn't a masterpiece
Watch more film.
it's imdbcheetodustcore
Describe in detail what exactly makes PTA a hack.
>1978
>modern day director
Lav Diaz or Apichatpong Weersakathul
Any other answer is wrong
i actually liked Boll's timetravel medieval movie with Stratham in lead. saw its second half on the tv
and Bay produced Black Sails which was superb
His newest film came out this year, webm related. Why are you on a film board if you don't know Malick?
Very convincing argument. If you haven't watched the films Drive takes inspiration from, you have no place commenting on it.
Of those dudes, Villy Vannoo is topping out for most consistently interesting. Not just sitting in a niche.
>snyder
lmao this is the best Sup Forums meme
still, long time in biz, unlike OP's examples
LVT's been at it for a while
PTA used to be number one for me, but times change
Dennis > PTA > Snyder > Nolan > Refn > Literally Who?
PTA is better than Refn and Villeneuve is just slightly worse. Rest are hacks though
PTA>Refn>Villeneuve>LVT>Snyder>Nolan
me
i haven't directed any films but my insight and know-how are so profoundly superior to those hacks that i am technically the greatest living director
Goddamn, Lars looks like shit
He needs to easy on the booze
I have this downloaded and didn't even realize it was a malick
fuck but I want to see all his older ones first
and I want to be high for them goddamn it
>spoiling art with mental intoxication
aren't you forgetting someone?
Drive takes inspiration from much more than Le Samourai and The Driver. Gotta watch Thief, Repo Man, Kiss Me Deadly, Two Lane Blacktop, To Live and Die in LA, Point Blank, Scorpio Rising, The French Connection, Concrete Island, and I'm sure there's others
>Paolo Sorrentino
>Asghar Farhadi
>Terrance Malick
>Yorgos Lanthimos
>Olivier Assayas
>Pedro Costa
>Luc Dardenne
>Joachim Trier
>Shane Carruth
>James Healey
>Jia Zhangke
>Wong Kar-wai
>Tsai Ming-liang
>Hong Sang-soo
>Bong Joon-ho
>Apichatpong Weerasethakul
>Hou Hsiao Hsien
>Todd Haynes
Villeneuve, Refn, Nolan, and Snyder are pure trash.
idk man, I'm a big fan of several of those directors, particularly Sorrentino, Kar-Wai, Weerasethakul, and Assayas, but I think Refn is great and a very unique filmmaker. He is memed a lot on here because of Drive so he gets lumped in with a lot of mainstream directors but he'll go down in film history as an incredible cult film stylist like Alex Cox or Gaspar Noe
Seth Rogen
.
Refn and PTA are true kino
>IMDb Babby's First Dabble in Movie Directors: The Thread
Cannot stop laughing.
Some people ITT, legitimately aren't trolling with there posts either.
Anderson > Villeneuve > Snyder> Von Trier > Refn > Nolan
But none of them are by any means bad. Except for Nolan.
is zach snyder the last "male" director?
some would say so..
Ctrl+f haneke
Fucking plebs man. Him or von trier. Marty's still the best American.
It's easy to post disparaging Don Draper images without putting forth any real suggestions of your own
Alex cox's first two movies are goat. Anything else worth seeing?
Dennis>=Snyder>Von Trier>PTA>Refn>Nolan
Ruben Ostlund
I'm trying to go see the square next weekend, is his other stuff worth getting into?
...
Jeff Nichols is a promising American director working today
Bernardo Bertolucci or Andre Techine
You fucking faggots
CELLS
Walker is amazing. He's also made an adaptation of Borges' Death and the Compass, which is pretty cool. That's all i've seen other than Repo Man of course
Sid and nancy is the best heroin kino and a good romeo and juliet, if you havent seen that.
Whoever made there will be blood - is a masterpiece
I think I found death and the compass on YouTube, now I have an alternative to pills for the night, thanks!
nice will watch tomorrow probably
Park Chan Wook
Refn and Villenueve the only right answers OP.
Because Ryan Gosling
>le unknown directors = superior taste xDddd
they're only unknown to autists who spend all their time watching cartoons and superhero movies. Anyone who actually watches movies as a hobby would recognize half of those names
This death and the compass adaptation is like reading a Borges story. What the fuck is going on?
>implying i don't know these directors
My point is that less known =/= better directors, so fuck off pretentious cunt.
He goes beyond mere kino, he creates pure gesamtkunstwerk
How is Snyder not at the bottom?
Feig is the only answer
except in this case it does because the ones he listed are for the most part way better than the 6 in OP's pic. I doubt they were listed because they were lesser known (again, lesser known to whom'st've), but because they're good filmmakers
Sad that the real answer hasn't even been mentioned.
Honed a more distinct vision than any of the others and has had more influence on culture.
Samefag
Also this one
>modern director
He is a contender for most overrated
are you posting these shit cucks on purpose?
tarantino and the coens, to answer the question
>ywn be THIS assblasted enough to insecurely seethe at posts that threaten my sense of taste
Villeneuve is easily the best right now. Even if you don't like his sci-fi it's hard to dislike his crime movies.
He just directed 18 hours of new content
>no Fincher
You mean the last manlet director?
>all pleb bait hacks
>le greatest
This board is a joke
>Paolo Sorrentino
He's a hack. He let horrid CGI ruin The Great Beauty. Youth is great, though, as is The Consequences of Love.
This. I think op is trolling, because none of those are close to being "best of" anything, but half the posts seem serious. So I guess it's just another thread exemplifying Sup Forums is reddit /fedora
Why is Snyder there? Are you having a cranial spasm? Did /r/movies make this pic?
>greatest modern directors
>all balding
Is there a connection?
Maybe if you've only seen 50 movies your entire life
yea men bald and men are the best directors
yeah they're all over 40
B-but my favourite actors never bald!
PTA writes, directs and produces, von Trier is director, writer and cinematographer often, Refn started producing too
they are the best, the rest are meh
