X-23 and Kimura

An X-23 without Kimura is like porn without nudity

It just doesn't make sense.

You don't really think they're going to kill off Kimura, do you? clearly the whole point of SHIELD being along for the ride is so they can arrest her.

She'll be back eventually.

>An X-23 without Kimura is like porn without nudity
So, cheesecake? I'm okay with that.

So, do people like this character? Do they find her credible as a threat.

I feel like my perspective is skewed by the way I was introduced to her, but I've always found her pretty compelling.

I think alot of Kimura's perceived threat level comes from her always being shown from Laura's perspective, and Laura is absolutely terrified of her.

But taking a step back and thinking about it, what has Kimura's track record been, exactly? Repeatedly failing to capture or defeat a teenage girl? Getting mindraped by Emma Frost? She's kind of a failure as an operative.

I guess she successfully kidnapped Mercury that one time but she also got her pants blown off comically and had to retreat.

she's Laura's Sabertooth.

without the family connections.

I hate that Taylor is actually resolving a lot of her old story threads.
I did always want those threads to be resolved, but not this suddenly, this blandly and without any new hooks to replace them with.
At this rate we'll be down to nothing but cutesy bullshit adventures forever.

I miss edgy X-23 stories.

Yeah, I guess this is the difference.

My first introduction to Kimura, and X-23 actually, was in a quest thread. She was the first threat to severely injure our character, and IIRC managed to do so on two separate occasions. Not only was our character and X-23 afraid of her, but the actual anons participating in the quest were afraid of her, even long after the point where we should have been able to take her on 1v1.

But when I look at her history in the comics I wonder: is she really that threatening a character?

I'm just glad that Trigger Scent is kill as a plot device.

Kimura is almost a Jason. To Laura alone, she is unkillable, unstoppable and has a personal interest in making the girl suffer. So all Laura can do is escape, run and hide.

As a kid and part of the program, she couldn't even do that. You have this nightmare force, that will track you do and hurt you and the best...the best you can do is slow her down temporarily.

Granted, she does have weaknesses. As pointed out, Emma mindrapes her. Certain powers could likely kill her out right (if memory serves Laura thinks Hellion could take her out permanently)

Oh hey, an HMQ user! Was there ever any news about if Crusty recovered from his colon cancer or whatever? I was reading the archives of that a while back and I loved it. The sidequest stuff with Joyce was fucking fantastic.

I think Kimura was played alot more straight in HMQ than she was in the comics, and she had that kick the dog moment where she bashed her own teammate to death. To be fair there was also alot of misunderstanding in there about how Kimura's powers worked. Like for some reason people kept insisting she had phasing and superstrength and shit. So she came off as alot more dangerous than she actually was.

But even her track record in HMQ wasn't all that great. Failed to capture an invisible hobo and an unconscious girl, kidnapped a newspaperman, successfully trapped an invisible hobo, and then got her ass kicked by Spider-Man? Did she do anything other than that?

Personally, I thought Kimura was scary shit at first in the comics, but then after pic related happened I stopped being able to really take her all that seriously.

hellion could jsut rip out her organs or pull apart her atoms or some shit.

>if memory serves Laura thinks Hellion could take her out permanently

She wanted him to use TK to push on the blood in Kimura's brain and cause a stroke.

God damn. That is a sexy cover.
Basically they copies the batgirl/joker one.
Or maybe it's a homage.
Either way, that running mascara is really doing it for me

It's a fanart, not a real cover

That makes more sense.
In that case there could be more nudity.

SUP.

>Was there ever any news about if Crusty recovered from his colon cancer or whatever?

No idea. I hold on to the hope, but /qst/ is honestly a nightmare.

>and she had that kick the dog moment where she bashed her own teammate to death

I think this is the initial thing that made her scary. Especially to someone who had never heard of her. It was made super clear that she was unstable as fuck and probably couldn't be bargained with (note: this is diplomancer /tg/'s greatest fear).

The other thing was that she beat us by genuinely outsmarting us. We checked uh, fuck, the reporter guy, what's his name, for traps, but we totally forgot the mattress beneath him, and that's what got us captured. Like Creeper, she had the psychological element of us knowing that she's somewhere, maybe pretty close, setting up something horrible for us.

Yeah, that's nice. But even with that I wish the story that got rid of it would've been a bigger deal.

>the reporter guy, what's his name
Urich. DD character, iirc.

It's really interesting how the interactivity can play with your interpretation of characters like that (credit to Crusty as a writer, I guess). Are there any other characters that because of HMQ colored your perception of them in the comics?

Personally I always thought Wither was a little bitch but then after reading HMQ I like him quite alot more.

I think Taylor just lacks a certain dramatic flair, tbqh. He could have invested the audience so much more in that event without having to change them up majorly.

Like having Kimura's attack on the base start while Laura and Jean and Gabby were doing their thing. so now it's Gambit, NuAngel, and Fury fighting desperately to hold out against Kimura and Bellona, trying to buy enough time for the treatment to finish.

And then they have like a fighting retreat towards Laura's room and on the last page the door opens on Laura snarling with claws out. TO BE CONTINUED. So now the audience is in fucking suspense for next issue to see if the treatment worked and Laura is ready to fight Kimura, or if it failed and Gabby and Jean are lying in pieces on the floor off camera.

But nope, we gotta drain all the tension out of it by having the last page be Laura and Gabby smiling and playing with the cutest bunny in the world and everyone is all relaxed sunshine and rainbow lollipops...

But fuck it I'm asking too much. I just need to be happy that at the very least the Trigger Scent was killed as a plot device.

Imagine a child Kimura to torture a child X-23

Well, bear in mind, HMQ was my introduction to quite a few of the younger characters.

Wither in canon compared to Wither in HMQ was definitely a disappointment.

Bishop was a character I'd always thought of as a lame 90's action man, and every time I see him now I cringe when I imagine HMQ Lucas growing up into him.

Oh, and it taught me to like Moon Knight.

Was that Homeless Mutant Quest...

>Learned about HMQ last week
>Really enjoying reading the archives
>Look at the date of the last thread
Talk about devastating. On the bright side it made Laura my Marvel waifu so that's something.
>Tfw we'll never see the climactic fight between JJ and Creeper

>we'll never see the climactic fight between JJ and Creeper

I see what you did there.

oh god damn it. I can't unsee that now

But yeah. HMQ quest was great fun, even with /tg/'s usual messes. Wither became so much more interesting, and I would have loved to see more interaction with the Blond Phantom and her crew of Private Dicks.

What I was hoping for most as I neared the end of the archive was the reunion and obligatory boss fight between Joyce and JJ. Her origin story really did a number on me.

But alas, it was not to be.

>getting rid of her boob window

fags

yeah. I'll admit to wanting to have seen that as well. Especially with what we learned in the sidequests with Joyce actually believing that JJ was dead.

But then again, I'm a sucker for how well Crusty was doing character development for most of the folks in the quest.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot, didn't he make Kimura-rape part of Laura's backstory too?

her biggest things are psychological terror of laura not being able to kill someone whose literally been beating ur ass since cu were like 8, she killed a predator x just from it trying to eat her and she just pushed her arm through its skull, aside from a mental attack shes been shown to shrug off pretty much anything else like it literally cant hurt her, and it just makes her worse that shes got a similar background to laura and just blatently doesnt care and enjoys cutting limbs off and pushing her fingers through people

yea im with you the rapid resolution of her biggest character points is kinda rushed it just seems so glossed over, i honestly liked the first issue where she had mental flash backs of talking to wolverine and kept snapping back to the present, that shit was great and then they were like ah shit its kimura and im like great! and now shes hit by trigger scent.. didnt she get that resolved with jubilee...? AND SHES GOT CLONES.... didnt that happen in circle of four...... AND now shes resolving trigger scent and kimura together at the same time!...... ur killing me marvel
