R.L. Stine's Man-Thing #1 Storytime

Remember that R.L. Stine written Man-thing mini that got announced? Well the first issue is out. Let's read it!

...

...

...

as someone who was never interested in goosebumps as a kid this is going to be the first Stine story I've ever read

...

...

...

...

...

...

It'll be hard getting used to hearing Man-Thing's thoughts.

...

...

...

...

...

...

...

...

...

>Man-Thing talking
So weird

...

...

somehow Man-Thing talking jive to Boomer felt more natural than this voice

...

...

mediocre cover

this is indefensible dialogue

>You have an honest to God monster that requires no CGI or makeup willing to work for you
>You turn him away because he's "too scary"
This has got to be one of the dumbest agents I've ever seen.

>Man-Thing talking/thinking

>dropped.jpg
>nope.jpg
>fuckthisshitimout.jpg

This is what you get when comic readers complain about narration and words in their comics. You deserve this, Sup Forums

this is unbelievably bad

Heh, this feels delightfully silver age. Although
>>Killing someone = missing fingers
That doesn't feel like equal karma

This seems an awful lot like Swamp Thing's origin.

It's a throwback to Silver Age comics, when artists did all the work and writers just filled in caption boxes. It's actually pretty clever, since the last time Man-Thing had a solo was during the Silver Age.

he was a pianist. he'll never play again.

this is complete garbage

>Silver Age
>when artists did all the work and writers just filled in caption boxes

you're a fucking idiot who knows nothing about comics

100% guarantee this faggot came from reddit

the most depressing part is that all the other marvel releases this week are even worse

For a minute I thought that was movie Man-Thing.

He had solo ongoings in the 80s and 90s, but they only lasted a few issues.

Same basic origin story, debuted two months apart. Man-Thing was first, but two months is way too close for obvious copying

I find this endearing, like an old grandpa trying to be cool by stumbling through trying to understand the Pokeymans. Then again I never cared for Man-Thing, judging by this thread people are pissed.

>Marvel pisses again on Gerber's grave

This is a pretty funny contrast with Parker's Man-Thing in the Thunderbolts storytime. Wasn't much of a Goosebumps reader but the novelty of this is interesting enough. Feels like all the weirder books lately are stealth minis.

This dialogue is atrocious.
Man, I've been wanting a Man Thing comic for awhile now, and this is what I get?

Damn you monkey paw

I've noticed that when non-comic writers write comics they often want to use thought bubbles.

When Stephen King wrote something for DC he was putting thought bubbles in the script until his editor said "we don't do those anymore."

Thought bubbles have been uncool among professional comic writers since Alan Moore but you can see why fiction writers would like them.

I like the narration so far.

This was great. People complaining about the dialogue are fags. It's intentional camp.

Fuck off, shill. Marvel is garbage.

Bronze Age.

But yes, lots of narration + thought bubbles was Marvel house style when Steve Gerber was writing Man-Thing.

And if it's the only thing he knows how to do, it'll certainly ruin the rest of his life. Sucks about the girl thrown overboard though.

At least you still have thumbs.

>Man-Thing Sold out

>man-thing talking
>man-thing thinking
>man-thing doing any kind of communication verbally with the reader

I've never dropped a book this fucking fast, what kind of massive fucking failure of an editor thought this was a good idea?, it's man-thing for fuck's sake, not some fucking superhero

I could see them revealing that this is just a movie in Earth-616, like they did with that 1940s Captain America flick and probably others.

well this is dumb, I thought it'd be like in Thunderbolts were someone is there for him to talk to so we'll get widely different interpretations each issue but nope, they literally just went with we'll see his thoughts.

Seriously, how fucking stupid are Marvel Citizens? Like..... they're even being more stupider than they usually are

>Look! An honest to goodness Swamp Monster!
>Let's insult it and hurt it's feelings!

The back-up story is OK, but the main story is a little garish. Feels like they're using those few moments when Man-Thing would revert to his old personality as a justification for Stine to do his thing. Splitting Man-Thing in two does interest me a little, and gives me an in-story reason to go "NOT MUH", but I'm not crazy about it. I was hoping this would be more like the handful of GI Joe books he wrote, but he's clearly just goofing around with the book. That's fine, I guess - I feel bad for anyone who wanted classic Man-Thing, but it's still the best thing Marvel's put out in the last month.

I'm kind of enjoying this in a corny way?

It's definitely not what I expected, but there's kind of a charm to the weirdness.

Where's your sense of irony and fun Sup Forums? I wouldn't call this, "good" but it's fucking fun how asinine and goofy it is, I don't know if it's intentional but Stine always had an act for turning his own stories into farces since the golden age of Goosebumps.

fuck yourself marvelshill

>No Tim Jacobus cover
Wasted opportunity right there.

...

go fuck yourself
I will repeat it for as long as it's necessary

I was not prepared for a parody (or spin).
I legitimately thinking this was a new horror series.

*was

This is like reading Goosebumps again.

Gained the ability during Thunderbolts YEARS ago.

You go ahead and do that.

FEET HANDS!

Piano Lessons Can Be Murder reference?

just go fuck yourself shitposter

>it's intentionally shitty guys

That was right up my alley.

You need to read more solicitations. We knew this would happen months ago. Save yourself the headache and just read solicitations from now on. Unless you're one of those "I'll give Marvel the benefit of the doubt and try an issue" people who I have no respect for.

Thanks Op. This book was a lot of fun.

> it's still the best thing Marvel's put out in the last month.
It's not even the best thing Marvel put out TODAY. Hell, it's not even the second best thing Marvel put out today.

Marvelcucks, ladies and gentlemen.

They're samefags

Because they had an opinion?

>liking crap
>opinion
lelelelele

Well shit son, I didn't know there was a New Mutants trade and a Daredevil collection released today, cut me some slack.

Well this definitely feels like an RL Stine book. That is to say, it feels like it's probably intended for REALLY little kids.

Did NOT like this, but I don't think I'm the intended audience.

Marvel really wants that Scholastic market.

This is terrible and insulting to the Man-Thing character.

>Seriously, how fucking stupid are Marvel Citizens?
they're notoriously retarded

Regular folk acting like suicidal idiots is the one thing that's consistently amusing about Marvel.

Didn't dig it. I get what they were going for with the narration style, but it just feels so at odds with the art (maybe if they'd adopted a more old-school coloring approach it might work), and Man-Thing being so chatty in general just rubs me the wrong way

I didn't have a problem with it.

it's the focus groups who are the stupid ones.

No superhero can ever overcome their greatest enemy: focus groups.

Fuck this. Marvel should really know their place and keep characters like this dead, because they obviously don't know how to handle them.

>Eric Powell and Man-Thing
I'd be down for a poster of that cover.

As to my thoughts on this issue, look no further than my pic.

This seemed like a match made in heaven, but just didn't work for me. Didn't really capture the feel or weight of the character.

I liked the backup though. Reminds me of that scene in Looper.

>not reading Dr. Strange and the Sorcerers Supreme

>This has got to be one of the dumbest agents I've ever seen.
I know! The realism is amazing!

>sinister six
>potential 2 billion
everytime

>"we don't do those anymore."
Wot?

That's no excuse.
