Lots of things that should have been handled either weren't, or got done poorly thanks to "no season 3 for you." Lee and Ford's reconciliation, Dipper's gradual corruption by Ford and redemption, no one gets to whine that Mabel didn't have some epic being told off moment followed by tearful begging for user's forgiveness, not Dipper's.

Well I don't want to cause an apocalyptic argument, but let's just say that one of the later episodes caused quite the rift in the fan's opinions of Mabel, though it's not the end of the world

It probably doesn't mean much, I have this headcanon where, after the events of the series, Mabel feels guilty over the times Dipper suffered and she wasn't able to or didn't help him (Such as Sock Opera and Weirdmageddon part 1) and, figuring that she's technically the older sibling, resolves to be more protective of him in a big-sister-but-not-quite way.
