People were memeing about death of Hollywood for years.

And this time it's happening for real.

Didnt they go through this when Colour Television came out and caused the Box Office to shrink

You realize that 2017 isn't over yet right? There's still Star wars coming out.

If you weren't stupid, you'd look at the adjusted grosses, ticket prices, and tickets sold, and see that hollywood has been on a life-support plateau since at least '95, and this year life-support finally started to fail.

Also the "average ticket price" is offset drastically by the ever widening range of prices, as tickets are $12-$25 for the US but like $0.25 for china.

It's not going to make 2.5 billion to save the year.

TLJ needs to make over 1.6 billion for this year to not be the worst in 23 years.

feel like even the most LMAONERDDD consumers are sick of the new star wars garbage

good the studios, vc people, actors and crew people all deserve to lose their livelihoods for fucking with American’s minds for decades, fuck them

Meanwhile:

Looking at the number of tickets sold, the industry seems to be doing just as well as 10 years ago, and dont give me that "adjusted for population growth" bullshit, americans are cucked and not having children, there is no need to adjust for population

who's paying 70 dollars for animu

Remember, FUCK (((Hollywood)))!

me

Thanks, pirates

No problem, ((((((((Hollywood)))))))) can no longer suck the blood of the goyim any longer thanks to our valiant efforts

Meanwhile Nipland has had >10% growth for the fifth year in a row

People are stupid and they're going to swallow those words when Disney takes over.

I'm not seeing any great downward trend there besides this year, which isn't finished.

This is domestic only, you fucking idiot. The total worldwide box office is several orders larger than ~$10b a year.

What month did it cut off at?

Stupid fucking thread.

>2002
>$14 billion

what happened that year?

Star Wars, Spiderman, Harry Potter, MIB2, Austin Powers 2, James Bond

I think because Star Wars (prequels), Lord of the Rings, and Harry Potter movies all hit their stride that year.

and lord of the rings

Came out like the last week of December. Would have been a bigger year otherwise.

>reliant on sequels
>no chances being taken
>SJW propaganda
>zero new stars
>old stars being shunned
>ticket prices way too high
>theaters disgusting

Hollywood better think of something fast.

>MIB2

Oh, that's right, people used to like that nigger Will Smith for some reason. What were they thinking?

Oh yeah
I suppose 2017 has ended, fuck November and December tickets.

I'm guessing the "grading period" for this is from October to October, so technically yes, it ended.

looking closely, that number of 2017 tickets fits perfectly for a 10 month period

one month after the first harry potter movie

Expect the Jew to poison anime within 5 years.

the japanese only listen to other japanese, also japanese laws state that it's the mangaka that owns the rights, doesn't matter if there's a publisher involved or if they make an anime out of it and you can bet your sweet ass they don't give two fucks about diversity

Jumanji is going to make 3 billion at the box office

GET LITTY OP

And? The bulk of LotR went to 2003.

harry potter and lord of the rings was end of 2001

Maybe it's because I'm half-Jewish but I got a literal shiver of rage at the idea of an industry we couldn't take over if we wanted to. Fuck you, we will find a way.

Because he's a good actor with great charisma?

the jews fear the samurai

Are you retarded?

Two Towers:
December 18th, 2002 (Wide) by New Line
December 12th, 2003 (Limited) by New Line

Chamber of Secrets
November 15th, 2002 (Wide) by Warner Bros.

So tickets today cost the same as in 95 if you account for inflation? Thought it would be quite more desu

are you?

The only big movie left is TLJ. If it doesn't make 2 billion this will be the worst year in two decades.

No - ticket price inflation far outstrips general inflation.

They had tastes. Probably hard to imagine such a thing since you weren't even born at the time.

It's clearly impossible for TLJ to make $2b domestically, and it only has 15 days of release in 2017 anyway, so it'll only contribute probably around ~$400m to this sum.

Let's say the rest of the year plays out exactly like 2015 TFA did, what would be the 2017 year end box office and attendance?

OP's numbers are from here:

the-numbers.com/market/

Their 2017 numbers are here:

the-numbers.com/market/2017/summary

It looks like it's numbers are pretty much current (they take into consideration Justice League).

Their projection for *all* of 2017 is roughly between 10.9 and 13.6. Averaged that is 12.25.

Looks like 2017 could surpass previous years.

they can easily make some type of streaming service, or just use netflix, and release their movies through it. almost everyone would rather stream new movies from their home than go to a movie theater.

When did we reach the point when only Star Wars/capeshit/Disney movies were the only game in town? Even shit like Transformers that used to regularly crack one billion is feeling the sting.

In 2015, up to November 19th, the year-to-date total gross was $9344.5m, which is actually less than the $9381.5m of 2017. Hence, if the rest of 2017 plays exactly like the rest of 2015, 2017 will edge out 2015 by about $40m.

God bless Japan

TFA broke 2 billion so it's possible.

>also japanese laws state that it's the mangaka that owns the rights
*Raughs*

hurr it's domestic only you fucking retard and TFA only made $900m domestically in its entire run, let alone in 2015 where it only made about $500m.

Yeah misread the op picture. Inflation adjusted in there means box office but with current prizes. Pretty weird imo.

In case somebody is wondering: ticket prizes doubled while normal inflation was only about 60%.

Two different movies, dipshit.

REEEEE put more blacks in your anime goyem jin.
